CBT tomorrow

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have my first ever CBT appointment tomorrow and don't know what to expect. I am actually feeling slightly less anxious than i was months ago when i went to the GP and got the referral. I have been on fluoxetine for a couple of weeks now and have managed a shopping trip on my own yesterday and just noticing that I am getting through the day without huge panic attacks or fear of dying... Still got moderate anxiety but its not debilitating... Now i think when i get to the therapy tomorrow they will think I am a fraud!

They will not think you are a fraud. The cbt will assist you in moving forward even more :-)

What do they do? Do you know? And is it the sort of thing you have once a week? I don't know what to expect

Personally I haven't had cbt but I have counselling and I have agreed to have that weekly. The first session will be setting out all the things you are wanting to know. It will be good.

Hi Tracie. I had 9 sessions of High Intensity CBT. On your first session they will try to get to know you slightly better, they will speak about your problems. CBT is a therapy which does not look into the reasons behind your issues but helpsteach you ways to deal with them. The homework is a majory part of CBT and its the part of the therapy where if you put in the work you will get a lot out of it. They will look at the best strategies to go about helping you fight your problem. They will not make you feel uncomfortable or make you do things you are not comfortable with. My therapist (along with a lot of others so i have heard) give you or ask you to buy a bopok called overcoming low self esteem by Melanie Ferrel. Its a self help guide which uses CBT. They ask you to work up to chapeter 4 before your sessions (you may have done this) then they work through the rest of the book with you and ask you to read and work on parts of it for homework.

I was on the waiting list for 6 years sad .....It was hell.

I hope you arent too anxious because there is absolutely nothing to worry about. CBT is great so long as you put in the homework and effort smile ...

Another thing Tracie, its massively important you and your therapist click. I did not with mine and i didnt get as much out of it as i could. I am trying to get a new therapist as i didnt feel totally comfortabl with my other one, which is very unlike me as i can ususally talk to anyone like i have known them all my life. Just make sure you get on, and you can see improvement with them. If not, change immediately or youl have to wait again for more therapy. So homework and a therapist you are compatible with are the most important to make sure you are benefitting from CBT as much as you can smile xxx

And the fraud thing... Dont be silly wink ... they will not think that. Everyone has ups and downs and they see that all the time. Just because you have been feeling slightly better doent mean you do not need therapy anymore. They understand that people can have a good week, but this doesnt mean the issues are gone and cured. Dont worry, they are experienced to know these things smile xxx

Hi Tracie, they wont for 1 minute think you are a fraud, good luck, hope it goes well, keep us informed as to how you get on smile x

that idea is ludicrous dont worry about them thinking your a fraud, think about it the cbt could perhaps change you from feeling slightly less anxious to a confident totally anxiety free woman.

im still waiting for cbt only been on waiting list for 1 week

keep me updated about your cbt and i wish you the best of luck :D x
