Cervical Spondylosis ruminations

Over the years, I've experienced varying confusing reactions, from friends, relatives etc. to my cs problem and I just thought I'd explore these positive / negative influences and try straighten my head out so I can have a nice Xmas!

The problem is this...I can't expect the average person to understand, or even empathise, with the confusing assortment of symptoms I try to explain to them in an effort to reach an understanding of the limitations of my interaction with them, whether that be organising a social event, or just trying to focus and engage verbally. I have developed a disgusting patronising habit of pretending I'm interested when I'm really only concerned with the ache in my neck. Obviously, with c/s, there's a time to socialise and a time not to, and due to the unpredictability of the condition, this can get confusing and even lead to uncalled for bad reactions, again leading to resentment, anger etc. Nothing wrong with resentment and anger as long as they are not the demented children of misunderstandings!

I don't know if anyone else with c/s feels like this. In this post I'm going to try and unravel the conundrum and evolve a positive attitude, as a Xmas present to myself.

Firstly, I know it's not right to dismiss other's opinions just because I'm aware they can't grasp a complex problem of understanding...that would be patronising. Also, although I am aware of my aches / pains twenty-four-seven, I can't really expect a sympathetic ear whenever I feel like whingeing ( though it would be nice!). A lack of tolerance in this department is the norm. So, what am I left with. I must make the intellectual effort to find some middle ground that works for both, but most importantly, works for me, as I am the one who must go through this process to counteract the social stigma of rationally discussing chronic

ailments.

I will return and add to this later (must go out now). would appreciate any comments... eg \"Stop while your'e ahead\".

I am a Dutchie....The Netherlands..... As far back as we can see, we are all Dutch, Dutch and more Dutch...... :D and NO...I am not an arrogant Dutchie, that would be my dad and some of my brothers too.....!!! We Dutch women are big boned, blonde and nurturing..so they say anyway.....

Now about our Aussie (thats our slang term for it) middle....I think the desert is just beautiful.....full of sand.....and more sand.....oh an occasional scorpion....a HUGE red rock.....and sand....whats so wrong with that???????? Actually I have travelled to Ayres rock and it is an amazing sight to see...at sunset, the rock glows to a most beautiful shade of red....never seen anything like it!!!!!!

Truce? I'm not British either. I've been to Amsterdam and Middleburg, years ago, and had a really nice time. The Dutch are my favourite co-Europeans ...and soon we will all be one anyway. Did you know ( I'm an avid history buff ) that the Dutch were the first Europeans to set foot on Oz...and I'm not talking about Van Diemen. A dutch merchant ship, called The Batavia, on route to Java was shipwrecked off the west coast and the survivors were stranded on three small islands for some time. Two of them actually made it to the mainland and may well have integrated with the local natives. Years later there were reports of aborigines with blue eyes and blond hair in the region. What happened on the islands is another story, horrific really...you might be familiar with the story already but, if not, it's definitely worth looking up. I believe the islands are now a national museum.

So. No matter what they say, Straylya is Dutch. You found it...it's yours!

However, claiming a large rock as a major tourist attraction is no excuse for not levelling the lot and replacing it with a mega Tesco hypermarket. Parking shouldn't be a problem, but I still haven't figured out what to do with the Dingos :fullmoon: :fullmoon: . Maybe you could just domesticate them...you've been there long enough!!!! Perhaps the sign that says \"This Way To Beach\" :surfer:has assumed a certain priority in the national psyche. When are you Ozzies gonna stop treating your own country as a tourist resort ????

Ahhh Gerry.... Of course a truce..... :peace: Thank you for my first laugh of the day...... It's the best way to start a day!!!!!! The story you tell of the 3 Islands rings a bell in my head, but i'm always a big foggy in there first thing in the morning...but I am intrigued about it and will look it up later today when i have more time... :D

I am certainly not one who treats Oz as a tourist resort..... :surfer: I Love Straylya and wish is was less touristy (is that a made up word?) :weird: If they ever even contemplated turning 'Middle of Oz' into a Hyper, Mega super Tesco's, there would be a MAJOR outcry from the Aboriginal community and many others for sure!!!!! They have claims and rights over many parts of Oz that we are not allowed to touch!!!!!:fullmoon:

I best go and get myself ready for my day....I'm actually going out of the house today to have lunch with some girls i worked with....

    :tea:

Have a good one!!!! Jas..... :ok:

(Can you tell I love using emoticons..... )

    Hi Y'All :D

Have to tell you two you have made me laugh so much! I had a disastrous day yesterday, tried to make the most of the gorgeous weather but the headache and dizzies drove me home early, rattling with painkillers all the way. What a joy to log on this morning and be cheered up by your banter  .

Thank you for your kind words Jas :D .

Sorry for hijacking Gerry, carry on ruminating, oooooh missus, sounds like a film  !

My love to Baba  :blackcat:

Very good and appropriate use of emoticons, Jas. However, only 8 marks out of 10 for taking so long to find them smile .

Can I just go back to the bit before the truce for my next rant ?

Re Ayers Rock....I get the picture now....We get the beaches. the Opera House, the prime farmland, the diamond mines etc....and they get to keep the big rock and the croc sanctuary. I hope my cynicism isn't too subtle here. As it happens, I'm a Kelly on my maternal side...so you can see where the attitude springs from. I'm not too distantly related to your horse thieving national icon. If I get too belligerent, you can always send over that other icon ' Chopper ' Reid to sort me out!

While I'm at it, can I just say 'no thanks' and return herewith Kylie, Jason, Rolf, Paul, Steve, Michael (what was He doing?!!!) , Neighbours and Home and Away. We'll keep Barry Humphries and Nick Cave, if you don't mind!

And, please stop sending us movies like Wolf Creek.... some things are best left in the outback.

Truce again :peace: . There's a good book on the Batavia story...\"Batavia's Graveyard\", so trekk on down to your local bookstore...but it's not for those with a weak stomach  :yuk: .

Besides all this , have a nice day. It's a bank holiday here today, so lots of slobbing and pampering is definitely on the agenda

    Thanks for the invitation!

I detect  I'm being very carefully redirected :nurse: back to the haunted :monster: padded cell of my own ruminations page :thepost: .Fair play.I've had my fun  on day release and I must go back  sad now.Nurse :nurse: says I should keep taking the meds and try and get some sleep    ........and stop hijacking other peoples pages.

As a Dutchie :wings: , you must be aware that the Brits have always hijacked Dutch colonies.New Amsterdam....now New York ( thank you ) :ta: . Australia... ( thank you ) :ta: . New Zealand.... ( thank you ) :ta: .South Afrika...for a while ( thank you ) :ta: and :sorry: .They even hijacked your Prince, William of Orange. :bleep: (expletive deleted)...( I won't thank you for this one, due to my own ethnic affiliations :guinness: :goodluck: ). By the way, is it true that the term \"Yankee\" comes from a Dutch expression meaning smelly cheese :yuk: .....I heard that somewhere and have always wondered? :?:

So, there should be no surprise :o if your page is also hijacked./...we're all pirates :pirate: :pirate: :thief: over here!

In return, we gave you football :football: and various hallucinogenic substances :weird: :magic: :monster: :monster: and, although you've applied youselves half decently to our national sport :football: , never forget...we invented the game, it's our rules...we win! As regards the substances :skull: , no question here, the manner in which your homeland relations have taken to these is, without question, admirable. Well done! :weird: A weekend trawl of the coffee houses :coffee: :wings: :coffee: of Old Amsterdam is well known for calming the stresses of modern life  :boing: (perhaps this should be reflected in the Home Remedies page.) As I like to put it......the Spanish expression \"Manana\" (manyana) meaning 'leave it til tomorrow' suddenly assumes too great a sense of urgency.

Anyway, I'm back in the cell  , Jas, and behaving myself again, so the serious :zen: ruminations     :!: :?: may well spring forth soon. :ok:

As everyone who knows me, knows..........I'm really into Peace and Love :peace:  in a big way. But, if I can't have that, there's gonna be BIG TROUBLE!!!!!!! :steam: :grrr: :steam:
