Cervical vertigo

Posted , 9 users are following.

Recently, I finally got into a P.T. For what I thought was BPPV. During my visit she couldn't find any traditional symptoms to support that.

She had me doing other tests involving my neck. Low and behold the light went on. I've been suffering a lot of issues due to my neck.

Now since doing exercises for my neck, I'm feeling pretty darn good. Anyone else have this prognosis? Thanks in advance.

What are the exercise for the neck cause the back of my neck been hurting since I was diagnosed with vertigo

Hi Vanessa, the PT sat behind me and limited my neck while I brought my chin up slightly. I am feeling fantastic. I did suffer whiplash as a result of a car accident when I was quite younger. Also, I have a burning sensation on the wing of my back and also tingling in my fingers. All related to cervical issues. I am to do the above mentioned exercise at home. I'm feeling confident!!

I'm gonna try the exercises cause my lower back hurts and I also get some tingling in my fingers! So I will have someone stand behind me y I do the chin exercises is there anymore?

I would only recommended going to a PT first so he/she can show you the exercises. I would never in a million years know the protocol. It is a very slight exchange of motion. She sent me home with an illustration and written instructions. I'm pleased to say I thought I would have this horrible condition forever. Now I see light at the end of the tunnel.

I completely understand. My visit wasn't covered under my co pay. Anyways, try googling cervical vertigo you tube videos. Best of luck to you!!

I've heard acupuncture could be good too. I'm just starting with the exercise my PT has sent home with me. You tube actually has several videos that might yield relief for you. I hope I've helped. I didn't have spinning either, just mainly off balance and light headedness. Feeling good now.

The problem with the neck is it can be a lot,of things. So,doingan exercise that works for one person, won,t work for another, sadly!  If I was you I would Google something like. Exercises for Cervical Vertigo, there,s bound to be loads, And trawl, through until you find some that work for you.  Sometimes as well, it can come from  another part of your body that has a problem, like a curvature of the spine (Scoliocis, for eg), so when you are walking etc., you are subconsciously overcompensating and it produces tension in the neck.  I am convinced that is my problem, so then You have to. 'Correct' the cause first, as just treating the affected area, ie the neck, will not help.

also check, out the book  'The Brain that Changes itself' by Norman  Doidge. i think you will find  it interesting! If you Google it, I think you can download the first  chapter that covers our kind of problem and treatment using electrodes on the tongue to get the brain back into gear.  Or PM me with your email and I'll fwd it to,you.

Yes I am like you Linda, mid in,t have spin in type vertigo, but my head feels terrible. Most of the time, especially on the computer and reading!! Which affects the whole balance thing.  it is also worse when  I am  Fatigued, which is often as this condition is very tiring as you know.  I did try acupuncture in the very early stages  of mine, and for four lovely days I was good, but it did not ,last, and all the 11  other treatments he did, didn,t work. Was so upsetting! (And expensive)!  can I ask which you tube w

      ones were any good??

Hi Gillian, sorry you're having a time figuring things out. rolleyes no bueno!

I've only viewed one video so far and that simply was a PT demonstrating how cervical vertigo is possibly diagnosed. I was given an exercise specifically for me from my PT.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

      Hi Vanessa, Ben here,

Each one of us has a slightly different twist on what works. Something great for one person might only work a little bit for another.  We all need to research our own symptoms and test whether the diagnosis we get from the professionals fits our own personal situation.  Everyone gathers information from different sources, and has something to contribute, that is why I came to this forum.

I completely understand your issue with costs.  I have paid so much money to so many that just didn't know and found that they just seem to go through routines to get a diagnosis going.  You know like "going through the motions" but they don't really follow through to see if we get the problem fixed.  But in every case, it cost me money.

The ENT was really only interested in giving me the Eply and then selling me a hearing aid.  The Neurologist liked giving orders for tests, so she had me get blood work done, have my blood pressure brought down, get an MRI, have a CAT SCAN W / contrast, and even get a sleep study done.

I went to a PT unit in a hospital that does a lot of other PT besides "Vertigo".  They were NOT specialists in "Vertigo" and so it was really a gamble, but I paid for it, not just with money, but I lost 2 1/2 months. They tried so many different things I couldn't possibly tell you all of them.   I did Eply type maneuvers and a whole lot of other things that eventually didn't seem to work.  The only reason I was progressing was because I was spending time.

So, please, carefully research your own situation.  Google everything you hear about and ask a lot of questions when you do actually have to pay someone.  Extract as much as you can from all of us on this forum.  I know I have learned a lot doing exactly that and  I am very grateful to all on here for the help.

Good luck, I wish you great progress.

      Ben

You are so right Be on, I,ve done the same!  I now refuse to,pay for any procedures or whatever as it,s all a waste of money.  the only thing  I would, pay for is a book but even those can be downloaded like, the one I,ve mentioned on the brain changing itself!
