Cervix open/close

My daughter in law has me really worried she said when you have a period your cervix opens, well I had this unexpected period 19 months after not having one. I stopped bleeding the day before maybe 2 days before I had the cervix biospy and attempted uterus bisopy which failed because cervix was closed. Why wasn't it open since I just had a period? The GYN said because I hadnt had a child in a long time. Confused and worried

Hi Carol. I've had a uterine biopsy and hysteroscopy with no sedation. It was no more uncomfortable than a cervical smear test. A little dull ache but nothing more. It was done to investigate mid cycle bleeding. Results showed it was hormonal bleed. Hope this helps.

it was two years ago, still having monthly periods. Very heavy and clotting. Mid cycle spotting on 10th and 12th days after period start. Gosh I know my body so well! ??

With bloating and high CA125 level was sent for hysteroscopy. Found 3cm fibroid and multiple small. These cause heavy bleeding and clots. Biopsy showed normal cells and lining normal thickness. So diagnosis was hormones caused mid cycle bleeds. So all good. Was offered mirena coil, don't fancy that.  I just have to consider if I want hysterectomy cos of fibroids. Still pondering over it 2 years later. Scared I guess!

so u are not post menopause. I am and this stuff has me scared to death! I had to go for a walk and trying to keep from losing my mind!!!!

Why so scared? I don't see what has you so worried, and if you do have something, then just take it that your doctor will lead you in doing what's right. A lot of women go through this, you've got yourself all scared for no reason, unless you've been having pain in your uterus you really have no reason to fear. Uterine cancer is painful and you would have been at the doctors all time ago.

How old are you Carol? I'm 57. We are all different. Many women on here have had a bleed after 2 or 3 years of no periods. Don't waste energy worrying about something that hasn't happened. Just face each day as it arrives. Keep busy until your next appt. Walking if it helps. You can't do anything until you know the facts so be strong. xx

Aww my love, I wish I was with you now. We could share a bottle of wine and have hugs. We are so different. I don't worry about anything I can't change. If I was dying tomorrow I'd say goodbye to everyone and smile. You aren't going to die, enjoy the here and now. Make nice plans as if they are your last and savour them. Whatever happens at your next doctor appt, you want to enjoy being with your family tomorrow. xx

Vaginal pain is different from uterus pain. Uterine pain makes you feel like you can't hold your uterus up, like it's going to fall out. Horrible pain, and a lot of weakness in the area. Vagina cancer has these symptoms:

Unusual vaginal bleeding, spotting, or discharge. For premenopausal women, menorrhagia, or abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB).

      Abnormal vaginal discharge

      Difficulty or pain when urinating

      Pain during sexual intercourse

Pain in the pelvic area (the lower part of the abdomen between the hip bones)

Pain in the back or legs

      Swelling in the legs

This is from the cancer website if you have Uterine or vaginal cancer.

Chances are 50/50 that you may have cancer. Risk factors increase when you're overweight or underweight and have a family history of cancer, either prostrate or uterine cancer from either mother, father or grandparents family members.

Same symptoms for both with the exception of Unusual bleeding for Uterine cancer, which I doubt you have.

      Hi, Carol,

It's still early for me in the US, but I must tell you this.  Every person is different.  None of us are doctors, we are here to share and comfort one another, but we cannot diagnose anything.  Even the most carefully written symptom list is a generality.

I'm sure that you have had and have many blessings in your life.  Things that appeared to be disasters but turned out well.  Everything will be all right.

      Love to you,

      Lynda
