Cheese to go with my whine?

I'm impatient, that gives me energy but also makes me as grumpy as a Crocodile in a bath tub! It's now 10 weeks since my hip replacement, I'm 56. It was going pretty well, the usual stuff..learning to walk again .Am I being really too impatient ? When I walk I have quite a lot of pain in the outside of my thigh..it actually feels as if someone has tied a wire tornequet around it! I have dogs, lots of 'em and walking is so important to us but within just a few yards (old money) this vice like grip grabs me at the top of my thigh, it does feel as if the muscle has gone into spasm. Oh and another question...I have an audible click as I walk..normal ? There is no sweeling anywhere but the whole area of the thigh and across the hip is still very tender...Help please? xxrolleyes

Had my 7 week checkup today I can walk without crutches not too far but with a slight limp my physio has recommended I do more of the leg swings pushing the boundaries by doing as many as I can until my body says enough, he also recommended that somebody stands behind me making sure my body is upright and the leg/hip is doing the work.  Also to massage the wound as much as possible to get the nerves activated and to get rid of the lumpy scar.  I am walking outside with both crutches using a light touch on them and making my leg doing the work. He also suggested lying on my good side and raising my leg as many times as my body will let me.  I will post again in a few days to let you know how I go on.  Hope this makes sense.

Hi 2020, you are doing great, which approach did you have? different approaches require different excersises, Anterior no kivk backs too far where as posterior you do a golfers pickup. I Do think PT playes an important part of our healing.  I have my scar massaged by the PT and vaced, so it jow nice and smooth although still numb,  am 9 weeks.  Let us onow how you get on.

I have not yet read your other replies so I may repeat something, but it is always a good idea to consult with your doc often when anything worries or hurts you.  It does take at least a year to fully feel normal again, although there is the occasional case when this is not as true, like me and my first THR which left me painless and totally back to all activities within 5 weeks.  My second is nearly a year out and it has been so difficult.

I asked for a muscle relaxer called CYCLOBENZAPRINE, but tried another one before this one and cannot remember the name of it, but it did not work for me.  I also take a pill twice a day called DICLOFENAC SODIUM that helps greatly with inflamation.  This pill helps me not have to take so many Ipuprofin tablets in a day.

For me, if I can keep my muscles as relaxed as possible, it helps with everything else and unfortunately direct massage for relaxation is not possible.

Do call your doc about the spasms and the clicking.

I wish you the very best!

Can I please ask about diclofenac? I would like to find an alternative to ibuprofen, is it kinder to your stomach? Thanks

I cannot say about the kinder to the stomach Jackie because I take a pill once a day called PANTOPRAZOLE to keep my stomach settled because of a heiatal hernia that causes me to vomit up everything I eat.  I can tell you that the label on the DICLOFENAC Rx bottle says to take twice a day with food.

It could be worth a try because two pills a day of the DICLOFENAC effectively takes care of all of my inflamation as opposed to two 800 milligrams of Ibuprofin every 4-6 hours in a day.  Ask your doc about it and also ask about the stomach medication I take, for it is a miracle worker if antiinflamatory meds cause your stomach pain.

      Wishing you the best!
