Cheese to go with my whine?

I'm impatient, that gives me energy but also makes me as grumpy as a Crocodile in a bath tub! It's now 10 weeks since my hip replacement, I'm 56. It was going pretty well, the usual stuff..learning to walk again .Am I being really too impatient ? When I walk I have quite a lot of pain in the outside of my thigh..it actually feels as if someone has tied a wire tornequet around it! I have dogs, lots of 'em and walking is so important to us but within just a few yards (old money) this vice like grip grabs me at the top of my thigh, it does feel as if the muscle has gone into spasm. Oh and another question...I have an audible click as I walk..normal ? There is no sweeling anywhere but the whole area of the thigh and across the hip is still very tender...Help please? xxrolleyes

I second the advice to check with your doctor.  I'm 62.  Had my left hip replaced the first week of June.  I was back to hiking and backpacking 4 to 5 miles on weekends after just 6 weeks.  By the time I went in for the right hip (2 weeks ago - about 12 weeks after the left hip operation) I felt 99% recovered from the first suregery - there still is some minor pains now and then in the left, but nothing that interfers with any activity.

My question for each one of you Is  What type hip replacement surgery did you each have...Anterior? super-path? or the oldl fashion way..This would be very interesting to know..I know when I had the super-path i did have some pain on the side of my thigh for some time but it finnaly after about a year i had no pain anywhere and actually the surgery helped my knee but if you had anterior I know they twist your knee so that could casue the knee pain

Hi I'm 18 weeks post op and have had a setback by being too vain and wearing heels ( im guessing your male so HOPEFULLY won't have this problem!!!!) lol, but I have awful outer thigh pain and also feel like my inner thigh is in a vice, mine is accompanied with swelling too, so I have gone back to my stick for support, are you using sticks too? I think you should, I don't have any clicking though

Actually Jackie I'm a female and I am soooo looking forward to wearing something other than old lady shoes! I may well have overdone it though...trouble is when you have long term pain you kinda just get on with it, don't you? I do lift quite heavy weights and it was only when a friend who had a hip op a few years ago swooned when I told her that I realsied it was a pretty daft thing to doredface

I have a question for the person who posted ..

''Actually you should not have a click on the operative side''

Is your statement based on an actual medical fact please? I ask as my surgeon (who is, I'm told, one of the best in the UK) told me quite clearly - as did the physio - that clicking (a.k.a. clunking) is perfectly normal (on the operated side) after this operation.

As quite a few people here (myself included) seem to experience this sensation/feeling, they might be as surprised (alarmed?) as I was to read your post.

Sorry every one I have talked to here in us.no one have said they had a click.nor did my doctor say that.

My concern was the person also had pain and swelling. That's what cause concern.I'm also RN.So the joint should move  easily with little pain after swelling goes down.

      Your tone is ouch.

I don't click but I clunk when I move certain ways so I guess I'm a US Clunker! 😜 My doc said clicking and clucking are normal, especially early on, and if you have a ceramic ball and socket, you squeak too. So apparently the materials used affect the sounds you make.
