Chest Infection for 4 months will I ever feel well?

Posted , 12 users are following.

! came down with this chest infection in February had 2 lots of antibiotics and felt well for 2 or 3 days in March and then got bad again. I have been on 2 more lots of antibiotics Clarithromycin and Doxycycline but still coughing and am now on serevent and ventolin inhalers.

I have had blood tests which came back to say I had had an infection of some sort and a chest Xray which was clear plus spirometry test which was ok but improved with ventolin inhaler.

The inhalers have helped me a bit and I was put on ventolin and Doxycycline antibiotic after I woke up at the beginning of May unable to breathe - it was very scary.

BUT still coughing up phlegm, feeling unwell and very fed up now. I am a singer and have been unable to sing, due to all the coughing since the end of January. I am fed up and depressed now....

Eventually having a specialist appointment on 4th June - this has gone on for 4 months now!!

Has anyone else had anything like this - I just want to know if I'll ever feel well again

Jane did you ever get any answers? Would really like to know as I had 3 chest infections since December 15 the last one was in July and it's still ongoing.

Doctors thought at first that I had developed asthma, after a month or so using inhalers and checking progress with peak flow meter there were no signs of improvement. Although the blue inhaler helped when I got breathless.

So 4 months on with and my symptoms have changed slightly. Before my I had a mostly dry cough but the last month I've had nothing but phlegm and a nasal drip - worst at night to the point where I wake up choking and fighting to get my breath. Tho I feel like the problem now is more to do with my throat than my chest!?

So I had an xray with came back clear so the doctors are at a loss. I have an appointment to see a chest specialist in February (7 months after my first appointment)

I'm a builder so work outside.. but been unable to work for weeks due to lack of energy and no sleep. Totally fed up, depressed and worried.

Have you tried altering your diet?

Take out all dairy and processed sugar, anything made with dairy  ie chocolate also got sugar in it, buscuits, no spreads with dairy.  also if you can manage take out meat for a while, only eat organic meat if you have to eat meat and small amounts,

      incorporate smoothies everyday

increase your uptake of fruit greatly, stay off soy. Eat plenty of bannanas/avacados  if feeling hungry. Almond milk unsweetend good alternative to milk, could eat a few nuts, Incorporate some supplements like vitamin C, vitamin B's, very often by eating cleaner you can start to feel healthier, you might go through a detox for awhile though so if you feel a bit under par at times if you were to eat cleaner it's just your body cleaning house, you would probably start to feel the benefit after about 3 weeks but would be lookinf at longer for full benefits. You could try taking wheat out of your diet as well just in case. Or try taking it out later.

usually when the docs are at a loss their medical science only goes so far and they never look at the fact that a healthier diet might help greatly, in my experience.

Anyway hope this might be of some use,

      Hey Sheila.

I'm vegan and have been for quite a while so no animal products for me.

I eat ahead lots of veg and seeds.

Sugar wise I try my best go keep intake low too.

My diet has been good for years so I'm certain it's not my diet.

It feels like I got a chest infection that just has not gone away.

I went back to doctors the other day and they said it sounded like the dry cough I had been having has become infected. So gave me more antibiotics.. they actually have helped this time.. I feel about half way normal again even though it's only been 2 days.. I think it might be a good day thanks to kale maybe.. been eating alot of it.

Plus I did have "good" days before only to end up feeling like crap again.

      Thanks tho.. good advice!

Hi My other  comment which you may get after this one, I wote first, is being moderated before being sent to you.

But whilst I remember what do you eat for protein, it struck me if your a builder that's quite a manual job, I struggle like mad to keep any weight on and am too thin, being vegan diet myself and only been on it a few months, I don't eat wheat and sugar at the moment, interested to know what you use for protein or to maintain weight many thanks

      Sheila

      Hi bunchmunky,

Interested how your app went in Feb?

It's a good post to find others suffering similar but some ppl drop off the post or forget to come back n tell us.

I'm in same boat except iv got a resistant bug in my left lung. My story is that a doc underdosed me amoxicillin which was working lovely but not strong enough dose to fully kill it n it developed resistance. The worst part is iv a very strong suspicion it was too low n was reluctant to take it boy do I regret that now I'm SO stupid in that regard.

Anyway had antibiotic marathon after that n nadda nothing's touching this little bugger as they say. I just can't believe it happening to me tbh. Mines I believe milder form pneumonia. My case is 4 months now and counting. Also waiting on app from specialist soon. Iv a feeling it's gonna drag out.

My lung is actually sore numb and tight I can actually feel it in there so my lung tissues gotta be damaged being in there so long. I was fobbed off by docs telling me it can't be resistant, it's a virus, was I anxious yadda yadda no iv an infection still in my lung because it's never been killed.

Iv been pretty I'll with no life struggling day to day just to eat going from bed to work as very fatigued. Finally doc wrote to hospital respiratory to see me urgently. It's such an insult to be fobbed off by docs , humiliating angering frustrating gees iv better things to be doing like just help me already.

Also please be aware guys not all chest infections are gonna show on an xray docs don't seem to be aware of this. Everyone's body different n especially Milder forms although make you quite sick I'm not saying you not poorly with them but they won't show up. Doesn't mean you don't have bug in there. Like it's a tiny microscopic bug sometimes just that is there causing cough n sickness n nothing else.

I will post back to let yous all know how my story goes. I'm determined to get to bottom of it but sooner rather than later I'm ready to crack up now with it. I hope my lung tissues not permanently damaged. I need ct scan and bronchscopy to determine which bug n if any antibiotics will touch it coz it's resistant. If there's not I dunno what options will be left cut it out? Then my lung will defo be damaged. All preventable with correct dose of a simple antibiotic unbelievable.

Hi I have got very similar problems.

Did you manage to resolve your issues ?

Hi, Jane, Sorry to hear of your suffering.  About twenty years ago - and again now - I got some kind of chest infection which resulted in being unable to breathe properly and even sleep.  THis time it's worse with coughing and phlegm and dragging around like a dead duck, dizzy and suffering from oxygen deprivation.  Last time, I beat it by using water therapy.  And I will this time, too.  Start off with a warm/hot shower and finish off with a cool one directed towards your chest and below.  I also keep a large dish in the shower - filled with cold water - which I plonk my derrier in as well.  The cold water is a shock but it does improve the breathing - instantly. The idea is to magnetically attract the gunk/mucus, etc. down to the organs of elimination away from the head. I notice that every time I finish up with a cold dunk of the botty, I feel the pressure ease around my sinuses and forehead.  The cool down shower also cools the heat in the lungs reducing inflammation allowing the chest to heal. I got this information from a book written hundreds of years ago by a German naturopath who healed with water treatments, such as sitz baths, diet and sunshine and by eliminating cigarettes, alcohol and processed food and antibiotics. He claimed that the body's vitality must be raised so that it can heal itself by eliminating 'morbid matter' in the system. Only when this toxic matter is eliminated through the usual organs will the body heal properly.  The book is called 'The New Science of Healing' by Louis Kuhne. NEver read a more sensible approach that really works. Doctors and their pills and potions have never worked for me.  And the more highly qualified they are, the more hopeless they seem.
