Chest Pain That Won’t Go Away

I suffer from anxiety and often have random chest pain; which I usually get over and deal with no problem. However, today is different... after my yoga workout (around 2PM today) I had this chest pain come on. Thinking it was just my anxiety, I took one of my pills and carried on with my day. But then 7PM rolls around and the pain is back and it has been on and off every 20/30 minutes or so. I can’t sleep, because whenever I go to lay down it comes back. It feel like someone is pushing down really hard with their thumb between my breasts. I say thumb, because it’s not a large area that is hurting. Literally just the size of my thumb. I don’t know if this is my anxiety or if I should get my blood pressure and heart checked out. Could it be something more serious?

    Hi krystine.

I am the same as you. I have been posting on here about my chest pain often and I have all the checks done on my heart and all comes back fine. But when I am having the chest pains it feels some what serious and I get them multiple times an hour every day all day/night but doctors look and me and just say anxiety. It really is a horrible thing to have.

Well know you are not alone! I have had ECG’s and blood tests galore before and just like yours it’s all come back normal! I’m also wondering if it is acid reflux too. I have had issues in the past with that and it could be a combination of that with my anxiety. I have to go see my doc tomorrow anyways, so I’ll ask her about this and see what she says!

Yeah same here. I have problems with acid too. But it just doesn't feel any thing like that. And it's a sharp pain with me and it's last for a period of time then goes away, when the pain is there I am convinced it's heart related every time. I get it but them when it's gone I am like feeling silly for Thinking it. I have it now and I feel like border line panic attack atm. Does your heart rate do weird and wonderful things too,? Like normal one minute then beating fast the next or beating normal but you can feel it through out your body?

Yes! When I’m getting anxious my pulse will start to speed up a bit and I can feel it pump through my whole body. And it’s so random when it does it too, I can either have been sitting still on the couch or when I’ve been moving around. I even get where the veins in my hand will pop up like crazy too.  I have these YouTube videos saved that help me get through those tougher episodes. Some videos are an hour and I’ll listen to them 3 or 4 times before I’m calm down enough to go to sleep (those are the bad nights).

Yes that's the exact same with me. YouTube videos can be useful when it comes trying to relax. Anxiety is such a drain its such a horrible this to have it should have so much more understanding and help from the docs.have they got u on any meds to try and help you and do they work?

I’m on Apo - Buspirone. It’s the farthest thing from Xanax for anxiety (which my doctor refuses to prescribe me, because so many people become addicted to it). It can be taken daily to help with anxiety, but I just take it as I need it. If I can get through an attack without taking it and get just doing breathing exercises I do that, but for those tougher episodes I’ll just take half of a pill actually and do something breathing and I’m fine within 15 minutes. Do you take anything for your anxiety?

Yeah I know what you mean.

I have tried to do it with all natural remedies and herbal stuff but I went to docs and told home I need something prescribed I have been but on propranolol 3x a day 40mg but I don't know if its helping. But I also don't belive you can stop a panic attack any sooner than its was gonna last anyway I always think when you are brewing a panic attack its better to just ride it out and then once you fully recover that's like your body taking the trash out but regardless of what I think they're literally the worst thing that can happened. Can you tell before you have a panic attack that ur gonna have one? Sometimes I know Bout 2 hours before I am gonna have one but some times its like ( hey surprise here's panic attack) without warning at all

My first one ever was a surprise. It hit me like a train and I honestly thought I was going to die. Now I’m just like you, I get anxious a bit and then a few hours later... panic attack. I haven’t experienced one as bad as my first one; which I’m thankful for. My first one I describe it as feeling every horrible sensation your body could physically feel all at one time. When I say that to people they can’t even wrap their head around it. Not when I have them I just get the chills, shakes, clamy hands, rapid heart rate and chest pains. And yah like you said there’s no point fighting it when it comes. It’s going to happen know matter what and it’s easier not to fight it. I usually only take my pills when I’m anxious, not usually when I’m having an attack. I just do what I have to do to ride out that attack, for however long it takes.

Yeah I know right it's that feeling you get all of a sudden when you fall or have a near miss that sudden dread but them amplify it by 100 and have it last for 15 mins. My first few was absolutely horrific bcoz I think the added worry and stress you get bcoz u are thinking (times up) heart attack and you just don't know what to do if u are like me I had a my first ever bad one on my own right there I was like am gonna die now my heart rate when through the roof and I was sweating my arms was tanning my jaw hurt sudden feel of dread and everything else that comes with it and feeling u are gonna pass out. But say it all out loud it's a scary thing to have to deal with. Now I think they feel easier is bcoz we know what they're and what we are expecting to happen kinda takes the sting out of it a bit doesn't it.

My first one I was in an airport surrounded by strangers and I called my parents and I’m crying on the phone with them so their scared too. I’m thinking I’m dying and that the last time I’ll hear their voices is over the phone. But now that I know what it is I know I’m by dying and I just need to calm down. It sounds easier than it is though, eh? Haha

Oh that's the most said thing with people with anxiety is "easier said than done" I know exactly what I need to do and what's happening but then when it all kicks off and my anxiety is brewing I can't negotiate with my self when a panic attack hits from then on its certain death but when am coming out of it I am like how stupid do I feel now and thats that. And it repeats its self

I haven’t had one in public since my first one but i felt so embarrassed like when I got off the plan I was like yup everyone knows what happened. And you’re right you think it’s the end and then when it’s over you’re like why do I keep saying that to myself every single time, it’s going to be fine

If the area is in the middle of your breast the pain in in the Sternum a large bone that sits over the chest cavity..

If your Anxiety regarding this is so bad talk to your GP. Would you say the pressing down causes more pain or does the pain feel it belongs to your gibllits, lol.

Have you been lifting  or bumped into something,

    Talk to your GP

Yah it’s on my sternum or slightly to the right of it. Going to see my doctor tomorrow, so we’ll see what she says. I’ve been doing yoga daily and had just done a work out when it started to happen, could be my chest muscles. Also, could be my acid reflux that made it start up again after dinner.
