Chest Pain That Won’t Go Away

I suffer from anxiety and often have random chest pain; which I usually get over and deal with no problem. However, today is different... after my yoga workout (around 2PM today) I had this chest pain come on. Thinking it was just my anxiety, I took one of my pills and carried on with my day. But then 7PM rolls around and the pain is back and it has been on and off every 20/30 minutes or so. I can’t sleep, because whenever I go to lay down it comes back. It feel like someone is pushing down really hard with their thumb between my breasts. I say thumb, because it’s not a large area that is hurting. Literally just the size of my thumb. I don’t know if this is my anxiety or if I should get my blood pressure and heart checked out. Could it be something more serious?

Have you had heart tests done to rule out anything other than anxiety? I have had chest pain on and off for years and they say it’s due to anxiety. I have had several EKGs, chest X-rays, lots of blood work, etc.

It’s anxiety. I know that’s not a good answer but I’ve been battling the same thing for over a decade now!

Now it’s just trying to find things to help me control my anxiety! Going to try acupuncture at the end of the month and see how that goes!!

I've had all different kinds of chest pain, including exactly what you have described. About a month ago I had had chest pain daily for at least two weeks! The first time I got it it caused a panic attack before I knew what panic attacks were like and I thought I was dying. I went to an urgent care doctor twice, he didn't do any tests because he said it was anxiety. Sometime after the second visit is when I got the constant pain.

It stopped after I finally had the health insurance to see a new primary doctor who my family trusts a lot. After seeing him and getting bloodwork done, the pain stopped. I had bad palpitations two days ago that left me breathless for a moment and the pain is starting up again! I keep thinking that because he didn't do any cardiac tests, he missed something, but that seems to be a common feeling.

Anxiety is truly awful, but by the sounds of it, we are all okay physically and just need to learn how to manage the anxiety.

Hi Bethany! Yah we’re all in the same boat, thinking something is seriously wrong when it’s just anxiety messing with us! I’m seeing a specialist at the end of the month to try acupuncture, massage and physio therapy. To see if we can go down that route to help my anxiety, because I have read good things about it. I dont know how many more tests i can do to convince me my heart is fine, you know?

Let me know how that goes for you! I don't know if I could handle acupuncture but I'd love to know what kinds of things work for others. I'd love to try a massage myself and might look into seeing a therapist.
