Chest pains

Sorry to post this in here but i'm dying for answers, its driving me crazy. Basically about 2 years ago I was diagnosed with anxiety after weeks of chest pains and dizziness, i had 2 ECG's one at A&E and one at my doctors which both came back normal and then i had a stress ECG, which also came back normal. The chest pains and dizziness have come and gone now and again since 2 years ago but for the past 2 months i've had a bad patch of it, every day basically cant seem to shake this one off and now it seems to get me when im excercising as well, like going for a jog or on the bikes are the gym. So i went back to the doctors again last week and had another ECG done which came back fine, then went on a health test where I had an ECG done and a stress ECG done, both came back fine again but during the stress ECG i didnt have any chest pain, so maybe the ECG wouldnt of caught anything if i didnt get my usual symptoms?

I'm worried sick i've got something wrong with my heart, i want to start going to the gym again but i'm too worried about it. Do I go back to the doctors and ask for more tests or is an ECG & stress ECG sufficient enough to put my mind at rest? I've now had 4-5 ecg'S over the past 2 years and two stress ECG, but i just can't get over it.

Hello, I hope you have found some releif with your problem. I'm 22 years old played sports all my life. Skinny but active, I weight lift now. I also had this problem with chest pain. It always tended to be on the left side of my chest where my heart was which scared me. I went to Urgent care one day and they actually sent me to the ER. My EKC wasn't "normal" says the guy at urgent care. However, once at Sparrow hospital they confirmed i was not having a heart attack. They said he was probably not used to seeing a young mans EKC, he was used to older pacients. Anyway, i was traumatized by the event. They diagnosed me with anxiety. I was afraid to workout because I couldn't stop thinking about my heart beat, was it to fast? A battled through this for a year or so until i went to my family doctor and got on a medication for depression/anxiety. Mainly for anxiety. It's called Zoloft 25 mg. a very small dose. I've been on it for 2 months and I feel so much releif. I cant even explain how good it feels to not think about my heart at all times of the day and night. So just a reccomendation! I workout 5 times a week and for the most part i feel great. from time to time ill think about it but it is nothing like it was.

    good luck!

I was diagnosed with anxiety a while back and I was fine for about the last week but the pains afew back now.

    Hi everyone,

I'm also going through the same since past three months. Yesterday I consumed alcohol and today mrorning I started feeling pain near my heart. At first I ignored but later it was started getting unbearable. Maybe I got scared a lot and immediately rushed to hospital. Doctors immediately did my ECG, reports were Normal and was said that I'm having gas related issues. I'm not able to sleep the entire night as I'm alone and I'm continuously thinking that something may happen to me. Suddenly after reading the discussion I'm feeling a bit relaxed. But still I want to ask that if nothing is shown in ECG then does that seems that u don't have a heart attack, cause I think that as said when I did ecg pain went so may be it dint caught that. Please help as I'm being going through these panics situations from last three to four months and everywhere I go they say, u are fine just have gas but I don't know why this gets so intense.

I NOTICED THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE REPLYING ABOUT HEART PROBLEMS BUT I WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. MY CHEST PAIN WAS UNBEARABLE, MY BACK HURT SO BAD AND IT HURT THE WORST AT NIGHT. I ENDED UP FINDING OUT IT WAS GALLSTONES. IT ALSO HURT MORE WHEN I DRANK ALCOHOL BECAUSE THE GAS BUILDUP. SONEVER RULE OUT DIGESTION . MANY TIMES IT IS CONFUSED FOR HEART ATTACK AND FEELS THE SAME. I'M GLAD THE FOUND MY PROBLEM, I HAD TO LITERALLY FIGHT FOR MY LIFE. I WENT TO FIVE HOSPITALS, ALL OF THEM SENT ME HOME WITH PAIN MEDICATION UNTIL FINALLY MY HUSBAND YELLED AT THE ER AND SAID WE AREN'T GOING HOME UNTIL WE KNOW WHAT'S WRONG. I HAD A COMPLETE BLOCKAGE AND WOULD HAVE DIED IN A WEEK FROM SEPSIS IF I WOULD HAVE WENT HOME. ??NEVER GIVE UP ??

Thank you for sharing your issues with your health. Just like everyone here I have been thru all the heart tests, EKG, blood work, CT scan, treadmill. Everything is normal. My chest pain is not pain but pressure. It does come on with increased activity and I get a feeling like I am losing my breath. On one occasion I have felt light headed. I’m still trying to get a diagnosis & am glad I came here because I was not aware of the nerve scenario. I will definitely check into it. Most ppl may know this but other possibilities for chest pain include:

      1) GERD (acid reflux, heartburn, indigestion)

      2) Asthma

      3) Thyroid problem undiagnosed

      4) Costrochonditis (inflammation of the cartilage of the ribs)

      5) Pericarditis (Inflammation of the lining of the heart (pericardial sac)

      6) Mitral valve prolapse - symptoms include palpitations ( valve does not close correctly). Most of the time it does not become a problem but if left untreated for a length of time can worsen)

      7) Side effects from some medicines

Just a few things to ask about but there are more so do your research to discuss with your Dr. and if you do not get answers, choose another dr.

Hi Gyda, I have suffered from heart attack like symptoms for 13 years.  I was initially very ill with cronic fatigue, cronic all over body pain which lasted the better part of 3years which I believe was made worse as I had to work while ill. I got ill 2 weeks after my brother got glandular fever but the doctors tested me for this 3 months later and said although I had glandular fever in the past  I did not have it at the time.  I have  never knowingly had it or was ever this sick or ever diagnosed with it.

At some point in my illness the chest pains kicked in.  I suffered cronic fatigue, it would take me 20mins to make the bed with just a duvet on it and I would need to rest for another 20mins after.  I often dozed while driving, (drs wouldn't give me  time off work so I had no choice) my whole body felt like I had been hit by a truck, I suffered massive memory problems to the extent that at one point I not only couldn't remember what I had done a few minutes ago but I lost an entire 3 months of my life.  13 years on I still suffer memory problems, fatigue, and with exertion (like running across the road) or stress I get chest pains with tightness, pain down my left arm but the most painful is the pain that radiates into my lower jaw.  Pain will often hit 10/10 if I do not stop what I am doing and rest until it eases.

Over the years I have had multiple ECG's, Angiograms, heart stress tests, which showed nothing. I have had a camera down my throat and up my bottom (I also developed cronic stomach pains and diarrhea after a few years)  which were all good, there were no indigestion issues. I was in a wonderful relationship, had lots of support, 2 wonderful kids who gave me no grief, no money problems, and I had no stress in my life other than the stresses caused by the onset of these symptoms.  Initially my doctor tried to tell me it was anxiety, completely ignoring my statements that I had nothing to stress about and that I had a wonderful life.  I was not prescribed any anxiety medication.  I have taken so many different pills for heart conditions and indigestion issues as an experiment to see if they worked over the years which none did.

3 years ago I was sent to a team of specialist drs who believe that I contracted an initial illness that damaged the nerve endings to my heart.  There was no test to confirm this.  It was explained in this way, an amputee has lost his foot but he can still feel it itch.  Those nerve endings are damaged but the brain still believes there is a foot and will create all the sensations of it itching.  When I exercise or stress my brain believes I'm having a heart attack and produces the symptoms.  This does not explain all the chronic fatigue or memory problems, and I have been given no explanation for them.

I certainly hope you don't have what I do, were you initially ill before you got ill that you may not be connecting with your symptoms.  The good thing is that this won't kill me, all the doctors agree that I would probably be dead by now if it was life threatning.  It has however changed the quality of my life drastically.  I am constantly reminding myself that there are worse people off than me, but its hard to live in constant pain, with a very low quality of life compared to before I got ill.

I would be keen to hear how you are getting on now or from anyone who is experiencing anything similar to what I go through and what their doctors have said.

Hi I am 19 quite fit keep having chest jaw and arm pain do you think I am suffering from a heart problem had three ecgs all came back normal and a blood test

Hi Gareth, you have the symptoms of a heart attack the same as me but if the ECG is ok I wouldn't panic about it.  I've had 2 angiograms, heart stress tests, countless ecg's and they are all normal yet I still have symptoms.  It is possible that the ecg at the time you had it didn't show up anything, I know of a person who had symptoms and was told there was nothing wrong he persisted with his doctor and was finally put into hospital for a day hooked up to a machine to monitor their heart, come 5pm and nothing so the nurse was just about to unhook him and his heart stopped for a moment. He ended up having a pacemaker put in.  If the nurse had been 2mins earlier he would have been sent home.  I would continue to let your doctor know it's happening so they can keep investigating.

I'm not a doctor so can't give the best advice, but I know that when you keep being told theres nothing wrong with you it wears you down.

Have you had any type of illness recently? despite what the doctors say I still believe I got glandular fever from my brother, never rested and so my health deteriated so badly it left me with the nerve damage to my heart.

If you arn't happy with the answers you are getting go to another doctor.

      Adriana656,

I totally agree...we aren't doctors but can only give our story and experiences. But as you well know and have expressed, no one should continue the pain they are exhibiting and it affects their daily life. We do have options for medical assistance so good advice to go for that second opinion, journal the pain but never give up on self and living a life Painfree.

Please read my story...thanks and be blessed..😇

I had pain at the heart for 20 years and all doctors attributed the symptoms to either anxiety or fibromyalgia or asthma. What they fail to check was the nerves to the heart. In the end, ended up with 6 blockages, a spasmodic nerve in the left ventricle and only two branch bundles instead of three found in the left ventricle; they're your electrical branches to make the heart wall beat. After 20 years of misdiagnosis. the heart weakened causing a pacemaker and defibrillator implant need.

If you feel a second diagnosis is needed by another doctor. remember number one:. It's Your health we're talking about....go go to that second opinion never need to ask others...do it for you even if you need to have a discussion with your insurance to let them know your medical issues haven't been resolved and secondly, remember that all doctors are alike. I happen to fall into a Cardiology Group who I love and who take care if me but they all think differently at times. Most time when I have a heart Cath, there's more than one Cardiologist reading the screen talking about my heart...I do know this waking two times to watch them and even talking with them during an angioplasty. Watch the BP upper and lower readings to make sure you're not in stroke territory but if you keep worrying about your health then it's could put you in threat of stroke. So get that second opinion and as I said, your insurance company needs to know these issues aren't resolved. There's so many heart problem symptoms but then the "Widow Maker" happens so quickly that the symptoms may not be present or all happens at once then the ticker stops.

Whether it's the heart, or lungs, infections, or whatever organ......you need resolution...go for it.....prayers that a doctor will find the answers for you. Read about hearts issues. lung issues, what makes you dizzy.... Could it be due to an imbalance of sodium, potassium. calcium? All needed for your nerons to function properly .... or any meds taken to cause the issues.....or any other things to rule out. Stress whether good or bad can affect us all but also, family medical history affects us too regardless of how well our diet is and/or how well we exercise.

I do know your frustration....I know your needs to know....I know your need for medical resolution..... but also remember the gall bladder, and other organs may be causing the problems.....also, the environment in which you work and live can be factors. Don't feel crazy.... Instead go get your resolution. Don't feel like you need to accept your current answers and still feel sick..... Always remember a second opinion saved my life and can save so many; or makes life much more productive and enjoyable.

Thank you.... Right now, I'm functioning bionicly.

Yes, that means my heart has to function by a pacemaker due to the heart wall is too weak to pump the blood through the heart and

the defibrillator shocks the heart in case it stops. Which has already occurred once and I don't wish anyone experiences that...

Since I don't know your symptoms or prognosis meaning you've seen a Cardiologist , it's really difficult to respond. What I can say is if it heart related then get your resolution thru the Cardiologist and ask many questions... Be prepared!

If you need to see your General Me Doc first then they can help select the Specialist for you.... Again... Have all your symptoms written down... and journal your symptoms for at least two weeks so you have dates, times of the day and symptoms you are experiencing.

Did you know lack of sleep, poor diet, and environmental stress all play a heavy hand in your heart. Prayers that you find resolution soon... Just follow the simple steps provided to be ready for your doc visit. I buried two hubbies both in there 50s....one due to a gastric ulser and the other a basil's artery stroke. Never give up in finding your medical resolution, always take your meds religiously, never stop meds unless doc says to stop and if no relief... Give that doc a 2nd opportunity to help... After that and it doesn't workout and no positive results then get a 2nd opinion by another specialist.

Don't walk in my shoes for 20 years to find an answer.... We've got some Great docs in this world.... But you have to do your part as well to ensure they have the info to assist us. Be Blessed!
