Chronic hip and back pain following total knee replacement in August 2016
Posted , 14 users are following.
following my tkr in August I've had most of the usual other people reporting but:-
untill the operation never had hip pain, some times intermittent back pain.
also when I walk my right foot(the operated leg) turns to the right, it's impossible to correct it with every step, and when corrected knee feels uncomfortable.
Has any one else experienced this problem with foot turning out
would appreciate any advice
good luck to all others going down this difficult path

Hi Alison,
ive noticed my surgery foot trying to do that. I have to make a concerted effort to make sure that that knee is over foot. I don't want to develop hip problems. At night I've been advised to wear knee brace to keep leg straight. But only when sleeping

As for the hip.......more often than not, the pain of the original knee problem cause us to do everything possible to avoid that pain. Often times, we limp, twist and turn and sit in unusual positions or do everything possible to avoid that pain. After surgery, we are told to straighten up, walk slowly and do all the necessary exercises to heal properly. Because of this, we are realigning the spine with every movement. Remember the basics: heel, ball of the foot, toe and full bend (as much as possible). Full stride with both legs and go slowly. No hurry ever.......just slow and steady. Ice reguarally and take you pain meds on schedule. Make sure your physical therapist is well aware of the back and hip status so they can set up some proper excrcises

Hi Alison!
My additional areas really began screaming after my total knee replacements. My shoulders hurt probably because of all the extra work they were doing using g the walker AND pressing on them to get out of chairs.
My hips began hurting probably due to learning to walk properly again after many years of developing a "compensating" way of walking in pain.
Also, arthritis is no respector of persons! It hits you when you are down. NASTY DISEASE!😲
I have ANOTHER theory, too. I think that for ME, my knees both hurt SO MUCH that any other pain in my body was NOTHING compared to my knee pain. Oncey knee pain was gone, I was able to notice OTHER pain in other parts of my body.
I had clicking in my left knee for a couple weeks last month and my left knee also seemed to go out of place. I think it was due to the ligaments in the back of my knee. I rested it, worked on straightening and went back to my exercises to strengthen my knee that were given to me at Physical therapy. The kinks worked themselves out, and my knee is better. Try doing some of your exercises, elevating your knee and flexing your quad muscles, holding the flex and then relaxing.
Sending much love and prayers your way today!💟
