i am so confused my doctors say they dont know what is wrong so now just say oh you have chronic pain we think. but i dont understand why when i had my MRI why they said they thought i should be having a brain scan can anybody help me with this or give me any advise? i am so stressed out with all this i know something is not right i know my know body but its as if know body wants to find out know that they have put down that it maybe chronic paini would be so greatful if someone could explain

First I'd like to say sorry the MRI scanners tried to treat you. I doubt they were doctors, probably only MRI techs. I think you should see a massage therapist. I am one, and I see and treat these symptoms several times a day. I am in no way making a diagnosis, just suggesting an option to check out. Your muscles are probably out of balance and need to be stretched out and strengthened. Imbalanced muscles can cause pain throughout the body, joints included, as well as numbness and coolness (compression of nerves and blood vessels from muscles). It can be a dull ache, a sharp pain a shooting pain plus everything between. To correct it the tight muscles need to be stretched out, then everything needs to be strengthened. Not muscle man strong - just enough so they are slightly stronger than what you need for a typical day. As for fibromyalgia, it is most commonly felt on both sides of your body. I doubt it, but technically it still could be the issue. The good thing is, massage helps fibromyalgia as well!

The numb fingers and headaches might indicate cervical spondylosis. You should ask your GP or Physio for a referral for MRI scan of neck area to determine cause, and then you can look at appropriate treatments. If the pain is recurring, even though it disappears during some phases, it is still 'chronic'....meaning it recurs 'over time', but not necessarily 'all the time'. With spondylosis, a repeating sequence of painful and non-painful phases is viewed as a chronic pain condition. If you do have spondylosis, there are likely to be symptoms directly related to nerve issues....numb fingers being an obvious clue. MRI scans are best for locating source problem, or failing that a physiotherapist might be able to spot the problem with some movement and nerve reaction tests.

There is a surgery to help with FAI, but requires specialist in procedure as its fairly new.
Anyhow, sucks to probably need surgery, its nice to finally have some explination.
Hope this helps someone else.

Jonathan have they not suggested fixing without surgery? Fai doesn't always require surgery I thought. Gait and weight loading patterns can affect the the hips greatly. I have had left side pain for about 15 years now and they have just told me it's cervical disc related

Mark, just revisted this after some new thoughts... I went ahead and had the surgery back in July (by worlds leading FAI surgeon) and thankfully all went well with the hip, but I cant say it fixed anything for entire left side pain/sligh numbness. (I honestly would not have had the surgery had I known it wouldnt fix the rest...)
The reason I revist this today is because I have a new theory that my left side issues may be related to Amlodipine (High Blood Pressure Medication). When I think back, none of my issues really started untill my Doc switched me from Beta Blocker to Amlodipine. There are so many people that complain about similar symtpoims related to Amlodipine, and here is a medical article as well...

So out of curiosity, anybody else on this site taking Amlodipine (or Calcium Channel Blocker) for High Blood Pressure?
I am going to stop taking Amlodipine today (I have Lisinopril and Metoprolol as alternative to take menawhile)

I had a Brain and neck MRI scan and the neurologist explained that I do not have any abnormal sysmtpoms for a person of my age, now I am 51 yrs.
I am slowly understanding my symptoms and what aggrevates it. I also came to a simialr conclusion as has been discussed in this forum, it is a neck issue for me so at night time I found 1 or 2 positions that my pain is at its least, unfortunately you still get woken up during the middle of the night because you changed positions.
On my next visit to the neurologist who has not helped me with any suggestions for the whole of last year, I shall ask him either to define my condition otherwise I shall ask him for a copy of the MRI scan as some of you have suggested and I shall find somebody to help me privately.
With regards to NHS and its service, you might not pay but also you do not get help when you mostly need it. I lost faith in the NHS system, it is a failed system however much money is pumped into it.

Sometimes I have to have one more frequently, but nothing has ever helped me more!
Find a masseuse that knows where you hurt before you tell them, those are the best kind. Hope this helps someone out!
