Anyone with Chronic Prostatitis ever had a turp done. I did, but it was only one of a number of other factors I was having down there?

I had a TURP done followed by Prostatitis and I believe it follows on from the Sepsis 18 months ago. Currently having massive problems with infections in my penis, prostate and testicles and am seeing Dr in the morning as Urologist does not want to know.  Don't know where to turn.

Well a trip to the Doctor with another urine sample, surprise ,surprise you have another infection, looks like current antibiotics are not working, followed by you also have "thrush". Take these tablets and come back on Thursday !!. Talk about going round in circles.    On a serious note my worry is what will happen if they don't cure the infections, will something rot away etc.  Just wonder if Urologists are only interested in operating on something  and problems with infections are just a side issue  for someone else to deal with, the only thing is who.

Feel better now I have that off my chest.

Hi Steven,  Will tell you my story, but not just now as in terrible pain all day with my Prostate, and not in the right frame of mind for writing.

Hi Steven,   Until I was 60 I never saw a Dr except for HGV/PSV Medicals, and then I had a blocked bowel and a Laparotomy during which I had catheters because of not passing urine and infections started. Had a PSA done then which was 10 and was monitored 3 monthly until I was 68 as results remained static and had A/B's for infections. Then had a heart attack again with urine problems and catheters plus a needle biopsy for Prostate Cancer which stated one of the needles found Cancer but again I had infections and A/B's. When I was 70 I had a Pulmonary Embolism which included a catheter followed by a second one 6 months later and am on blood thinners for life.  This led to 20 months ago another needle biopsy and this time I had Sepsis which was found after and I only had an hour to live due to NHS 24 not understanding all the clear symptoms. Luckily my Angel was a local nurse who saw me and had her husband rush me to hospital. This ended up with stay in HDU with catheters and more infections, plus on leaving hospital I continued with constant infections with no A/B's sorting it out. In Novenber last year I went for a Haemmoroid op and the spinal anaesthetic went wrong and froze my waterworks solid so another catheter and loads of infections, It got to the stage they could not get catheters in so I had an emergency TURP with loads of bleeding so bad was infections that I was kept in over Xmas & New Year. Was discharged in January and still getting infections only to be told by Urologist that I have Prostitis hence the pain in my Prostate, testicles and penis. Put on same A/B's have been on numerous times with no improvement only getting worse. As I type this my Prostate is aching and no pain killer is helping it.  Dr to see me again on Thursday with urine results which still show infection on quick test. Urologist to arrange for Pain Clinic and a Physio to help with leaking urine and problems holding urine, and I asked if I could have my Prostate removed as it could be no worse than as at present, he said Yes but i would be likely to have nerve problems which could be the same as now.

My questions are, Why can I not be referred to someone who specialises in infections for help ?.  Surely I should not be in continual pain in this day and age.   Are these infections from Sepsis and they have never been cleared up. Where do you turn to in the NHS when it seems the Specialists don't know the answer.

Sorry if my tale seems grim, but on the brighter side I am glad at home my wife is so supportive, and I have my chickens, ducks and doves to look after which makes me get up every morning to let them out and feed them and put them in when darkness comes at night. My other relaxation is playing my accordion and when I am in hospital I set a target of a date to go and play at one of our local Accordion Clubs and that focuses my mind on getting out and living again.  Hope the above is of interest and i welcome any suggestions to improve my life at present.

      Hi STM,

Your message moved me so much. I am sort of in the same situation today as you were in yesterday. TREMENDOUS DISCOMFORT. and, you know I'm only 65 yrs. old. I had to turn down an invitation to dinner from my mother tonight because I am in so much discomfort. This is a dibilitating disease. I had the TURP done when I was 59 yrs. old because of this disease, among other problems that I was having. and you know, up until that point I had never even heard of prostatitis before in my life. I feel the same as you do. With everyting that they can do today, WHY oh WHY can't they find a cure for this Horrible condition. I would just assume have the prostate out too. What good is it doing in me now.. It also seems as if the hospital had something to do with your condition as well. I also was kept in over the holidays as well. The doctor did the TURP and Never came in to see me. I Hate him. I just hope theirs a light at the end of the tunnel for you and I, STM. Rest assured my friend that I am in pain at this very moment, too. Mine seems to be non-bacterial prostatitis. My Dr. suggested removing the prostate down the line. The only answer I have for you is that you have to find your own solutions as the drs. are REALLY not much help these days. I seem to have one who cares!

Please keep in touch with me, STM. I care !!! believe me. and it's nice to know there is someone on here who I can talk to who's Going through the same thing as I am going through. Together MAYBE we can find answers.

Steve,  Thanks for your response, and it is interesting we are having similar problems but frustrating to see that we are both banging our heads against what seems to be a brick wall. While in Perth today I met a mobile MacMillan team who suggested I must get a second opinion as there are things being done to help folk with Prostatitis, but one bit of advice they did recommend was feel free to speak to others of your experiences as you may pass on and get worthwhile advice. Lets keep talking.

I agree you need to see an infection specialist, and get some cultures done.

Saw my Doctor yesterday and the urine sample is infected even though I am on Ciproflaxin, and she does not know what to do as they don't know what it is. Took another sample in today for results next week. She is referring me to a Private Consultant rather reluctantly but she understands with only one team in this area it would be difficutl to get an honest second opinion.  I will have to pay but it will be nothing if it gets me out of what is now constant pain. In the past I have found Buscopan the best thing for any spasm pain, and the pain is similar at times to the cramps I get. Hope it does not spoil this long weekend for you, and keep smiling and taking the tablets !!..

The spasms can come and go in my Penis and testicles for no reason, a bit like the cramp in my legs which can be throbbing and I can't stop moving my legs in bed. Suggest you speak to your Doctor for some Buscopan as it is good.

No not yet, I have to wear pads all the time and must not hear a tap with running water or I flood. My Urologist promised to refer me to Physio who can help with this, but still waiting along with the Pain Clinic promise.
