Chronic Vaginal E Coli infections

Hi everyone,

So the last few times I was treated for BV (in the summer of 2014), it turns out once the cultures came back, that I had E Coli and not Gardnerella. It is chronic and goes away with antiboitoics, but comes back right away a few days after the antibiotics are through, especially after a period. I am taking 50 Billion probiotics, using apple cider vinegar down there to restore pH, etc. I have no new sex partners, have been married for 10 years, and he was tested and does not have E Coli. Has anyone strugged with E Coli infections? My doctor says that E Coli is another bacteria that is present everywhre, and when your pH in the vagina is off, it cannot fight off the normal bacteria and they flourish. All of my bloodwork has come back fine, except I just found out I have the beginning stages of cervical cancer. The doctor thinks this is all related, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this. It's miserable and I'm tired of having infections. If you have any insight or experience to share, please do! Thank you! smile

      Hi

My mother is having ecoli from almost 5 months. She was hospitalized for the same and given IV injection and then on Niftran 100 mg capsule twice a day. But this ecoli is still present. She is very fed up with this. Doctor is suggested to go for cystoscopy, we are uncertain what to. Any help

Some kind of way i got contaminated with ecoli. Even though my doctor has had me on many different antibiotics, after i have finished with the antibiotic my symptom return. The smelly urine, lots of setelments. Iam at the pointof thinking that this is going to be the death of me. Is there any treatment, natural or conventional that will get ris of this infection for good that you know of please.

      Hi Momma Jay,

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles with this. I have yet to find something that gets rid of it for good. Tea tree oil and coconut oil vaginal suppositories help with symtoms, boric acid capsules inserted vaginally help with symptoms, and healthy eating. Cutting out sugars and processed foods was a big help for relief. I hope this helps!

      Hi Marie,

Have you tried acti gel yet? I live in Asia and its a bit difficult to get it, but I am trying to get my hands on some. Wondering if you have tried it? Do you use antibiotics now if it comes back or do you use natural remedies only? I have also started to insert probiotics with L. Ramnosous strain to hopefully help with pH levels and having good bacteria in the vaginal area.

Hi Maggie, Yes I used the actigel when I lived in Germany for a year, and it helped with symptoms and such, but didn't get rid of it for me. It was a nice symptom relief for sure. I would always use it after intercourse and before and after my period for a few days.

      Momma Jay,

Sorry I can't help more. I don't know how to answer that, as I don't know enough about it. I would talk at length with your physician about the severity of the issue.

Looks like no cure has been found! I have been suffering from vaginal e coli for 4 years! After antibiotic therapy i thought it was gone for two years.. But it rose its ugly head since last year and whats worst is it now causing uti so frequently! I m devastated. I did extensive research online. Search with keyword ' aerobic vaginitis'. You will see. Metronidazole and clindamycin are not effective against aerobic bacteria e coli. Oral or IV antibiotic would only work temporarily because i guess e coli

can easily evade the effect of antibiotic by sitting on epithelial cell in vagina. So only way out is topical antibiotic or antiseptic. Kanamycin ovule can effectively clear this up as different studies syggest but question is where can we find that? Please talk to your doctor and ask to prescribe antibiotic suppository through compounding pharmacy. Oil of oregano and cinnamon oil are also said to effective against e coli..trying to figure out how we can take it..simply frustrated.

Hi Tastas, when you said it went away for two years after antibiotics, which antibiotic did you take?

my infection was from e coli and fungus. antibiotic will depend on your culture result. i had to take 3 ceftriaxone injection in 2011 as no oral antibiotic was susceptible. i also took deflucan for fungus and nystin cream. then in 2012, culture showed it again but this time sensitive to oral antibiotics. i took cipro for 7 days. again ladies, telling you all something strongly, vaginal e coli or aerobic vaginitis is very hard to eradicate without topical antibiotic. hope you get a doctor to understand that.

Thanks tastas for the suggestions you gave. I will make sure i mention them to my new doctor tomorrow after my culture. I will keep you all informed of what's happening in my case.

Yeah I took cipro twice for seven days and it didn't even touch it, but it said it was susceptible to it. I wonder what else is a possibility. Maybe I should try the injections. Any side effects?

you can try the injectables but vaginal e coli can survive on skin which is hard to kill by antibiotic through blood stream. that is at least my understanding. when there is a skin infection, antibiotic ointment or cream or antiseptic is used directly for this reason. if you have e coli infection in your bladder or stomach, oral or injection form of antibiotic will be effective. but down there it is actually made of skin and and that is why doctors prescribe metronidazole or clindmycin in gel or suppository form rather than as oral tablet for gardenella vaginosis. these are antibiotics too. then why cant we get other antibiotic that can kill e coli in this form? in europe they are using kanamycin which is an antibiotic in ovule form for e coli vaginitis.

i am so sorry for your struggle. are u suffering from vaginitis or uti ? be very very careful as you have high risk of catching uti as you are catherized. but if it is in the vagina, i dont think it is life thretening...but of course it affcets your comfort and must be treated to lower the risk of complicated uti. you can undertsnad how easy it is for e coli to travel from vagina to urethra...shih!

Hi tastas, thanks for being converned about me and my problem. I'm having e coli uti's. And now their coming back as soon s i'm finished with whatever antibiotic i've been on. I have a doctors appointment today with a new doctor and can't wait until i get there. I'm hoping this new doctor will take my condition a lot more serious than the doctor that i fired did. I will make sure i let you know what my outcome today is. Thanks for being concerned. It seems like i'm all alone in this world with my problem.

You are not alone.. There r so many people suffering with recurrent utis. You need to get checked up for vaginal e coli and for that they need to perform aerobic culture. Remember that. Nonethless, they should give you either serious iv antibiotic to eradicate it for a week or so or low dose abtibiotic for a long time ( may be six months).

Hi tastad and momma, wonder if its possible to get recurrent yeast or e.coli infections? It just means that the vaginal environment is off, so i am using a vaginal probiotic that is inserted into vagina plus oral probiotics. But i am still using antibiotics to fight off the infection, i dont know if doctors are prescribing boric acid here in Asia! You are not alone. Chronic vaginitis for 2 years now, i had a miscarriage in between, cant help but wonder if its all related.

Thanks tastas7 for letting me know someone cares. I had my appointment on the 5th of this month. I'm now waiting for the results of my urinalius to return. In the mean time my new doctor has put me on Ampicillian 500 mg. for the symptoms. I will make sure I let you all know what's next with my journey to getting well.
