Chronic Vaginal E Coli infections

Hi everyone,

So the last few times I was treated for BV (in the summer of 2014), it turns out once the cultures came back, that I had E Coli and not Gardnerella. It is chronic and goes away with antiboitoics, but comes back right away a few days after the antibiotics are through, especially after a period. I am taking 50 Billion probiotics, using apple cider vinegar down there to restore pH, etc. I have no new sex partners, have been married for 10 years, and he was tested and does not have E Coli. Has anyone strugged with E Coli infections? My doctor says that E Coli is another bacteria that is present everywhre, and when your pH in the vagina is off, it cannot fight off the normal bacteria and they flourish. All of my bloodwork has come back fine, except I just found out I have the beginning stages of cervical cancer. The doctor thinks this is all related, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this. It's miserable and I'm tired of having infections. If you have any insight or experience to share, please do! Thank you! smile

    Hi,

So, I don't know about yeast or BV issues, but my issue was only E. Coli (aerobic vaginitis). Yeast is a fungus and BV is anaerobic, so therefore the treatments would be different if you had either of those. Most of my doctors have said that PB8 is the best probiotic to take in general.

For the past year and a half I have been in the process of starting medical school, and I finally had a 3 week vacation to completely relax, and it went away immediately. That is my reasoning on why I believe it is stress (aka hormone imbalances) causing my issues. Some type of hormone imbalance that is causing my flora to not populate properly. We are supposed to have E. Coli in our flora but it is supposed to be controlled by good bacteria (and stress probably contributes to a lack of good bacteria). I have also been pumping vitamin C, which may have helped my immune system too.

In terms of the pH, if it is an E. Coli infection, your doctor is wrong. E. Coli is part of the normal flora (like i mentioned above) and therefore CAN thrive at normal pH. So the pH is not necessarily off if you have an E. Coli infection. Mine was not, yet my lab results turned up with E. Coli.

Lastly, I stopped having deep penetration sex for about six months. And this helped my cervix heal and maybe has contributed to the discharge going away.

Maybe everyone who has this issue should see an endocrinologist and get their hormone levels tested?

I agree that hormones can play a part, and it's true our hormones can get all wonky BECAUSE of stress. I think stress is the key to a lot of this issue. Eating clean (cutting processed foods), getting enough rest, and some actual stress management has helped me a ton with mine. I am on hormone therapy, as my estrogen was really high adn my progesterone really low, which seems to be helping a bit, but I think overall just my habits and ability to handle the stress better now than I did a year ago is the key. Hang in there everyone!

    Hello everyone,

I am seriously confused and wondering whether anybody has had similar results, experience and advice. I had an early miscarriage about a month ago. Husband and I devestated I was told despite history of endometriosis that I should be ok to try again and there was nothing specific that caused it. I had swab too to make sure all was ok. I have no had any vaginal symptoms at all.

The results were alarming despite the lack of symptoms E coli was cultured ( heavy growth ) I was given antibiotics and sent on my way

Later I showed the results to another consultant who think the ecoli was more likely to be a contaminant as there were no wbc in the swab.

Does anybody have experience of vaginal ecoli with no white blood cells or anerobes, if yes what was your treament and how successful was it ..

Should me husband be treated to

These were my results for anybody who's had similar .

    White blood cells NOT seen

    EPITHELIAL cells +

    Yeast Not seen

    Trichomonas NOT seen

    CLUE Cells NOT seen

CULTURE : Heavy growth Escherchia Coli, significance uncertain

    Ampicillin R

    Cefuroxime S

    Ciprofloxacin S

    Gentamicin S

    CO amoxiclav S

    Anaerobes NOT isolated.

I did have symptoms of uti a day after the swab and dis have a quick treatment of trimethroprim in days waiting for the HVS results. Could it have been contaminant from the urine?

I was give cefuroxime 500mg 7 days 3 times, for the swab results.

I've taken it. Haven't repeated swab I was told no need but I'm very worried as I am trying for a baby.

I've heard ecoli can cause all sorts of problems I pregnancy and birth.

    HELP!! sad

    Hi MarieGermany,

My name is Stephanie and I'm 23 years old. I have type one diabetes and I hardly no Vitamin D, my mom had cervical cancer and have her cervix removed from HPV. I recently had e.coli in my urine, to where it even led up to my kidney causing an infection. I took cipro and got rid of it then before or during my period I caught it again. Reading this info, it sounds simialr. My boyfriend of over two years does not have e.coli and I try to drink lemon water constantly, I take cranberry vitamins, also I eat healthy, I do splurge every now and then. Also, I wish with antibacterial Dial Gold soap. After sex, I pee for sure and wash myself with anti bacterial soap, but the e.coli seems to come back around my period time and it sounds similars to yours. What are the probiotics you take? I'm very interest in your regimen on how to help this situation. I will also pray for you that your cervical cancer will heal.

    Thanks so much.

Hi Marie! I have been free for 3 moths so I think it is good enough to share my foundings with you girls! I have being reading all kinds of forums to find anything that can work. So I thought I should share with you all because it is very anoying situation! So I have tried that Fem Flora with 10 million CFu's, didn't work. Tried not to use tampons with Lunette cups it helped so I didn't have BV right after my period which is good but right before my period it came back again. I have white no sugar yogurt every day for breakfast! I have tried all kinds of vitamins and antioxidants but rescently I started taking banana flour from Brazil and worked! Banana flour is a prebiotic that feeds your gut and makes better enviroment for your bacterias in your intestine. I have been using for the last 3 months and my BV seems to be under control. I am also doing another thing, I dry myself with a hairdryer before I put my underwear. With this combination I have been free for 3 months! I hope I can help!

Reading through this han been very helpful! After trying EVERYTHING (different creams, gells, all sorts of pills, probiotics, suppositories, boric acid and other natural remedies) for years - I'll am trying to keep it short here - the fifth Gynecologist I've seen (during the last 6 mobths - yes, its that chronic for me) recommended a weekly treatment (cleansing) with crystal violet (or gentian violet); this is performed at the doctor's office, not at home. Gentian violet has antibacterial, antifungal, antihelminthic, antitrypanosomal, antiangiogenic, and antitumor properties. It's the only thing that has worked for me. I'm on week #3 and so far I've seen incredible progress. I'm staining everything for three days after the cleansing - underwear, towels, pants... but that's absolutely no inconvenience when compared to the immense healing I've experienced smile

Hello good to you is working hope and truth to finish the treatment you find yourself free of the bacteria, I'm intententando with another product, I would like to know what percentage of gentian violet are using in your treatment, if you know more about what they make you put in the office and please share the information, I do ozonated water wash, and then I get a mineral used as a natural antibiotic to 20 pmm, we must continue to share experiences. Greetings to all girls! We must not lose faith and keep trying.

    Hi,

So my vaginal E. Coli seemed to be under control for a couple months and came back now. I have done a lot of research on the subject and am considering trying vaginal probiotics. As they aren't available in the US, I was thinking of inserting an oral probiotic. Has anyone tried this and will this make things worse/cause a reaction?

As a side note, I took 3 days of Bactrim last week for a UTI, and the vaginal E. Coli came back VERY strong after I finished....

      Hi Pammy,

I was also diagnosed with vaginal e coli and the doctor put me on 2 weeks of amoxicilin together with 12 nights of gynoflor (vaginal probiotics) and it didn't help at all. There is no harm trying though. Just because it didn't work with me doesn't mean it won't work with you. Hope to hear good news smile

I have been dealing with the same issue for about 4 years. Have anyone had any luck? I was also wondering if anyone has had children since dealing with this
