Chronic Vaginal E Coli infections

Hi everyone,

So the last few times I was treated for BV (in the summer of 2014), it turns out once the cultures came back, that I had E Coli and not Gardnerella. It is chronic and goes away with antiboitoics, but comes back right away a few days after the antibiotics are through, especially after a period. I am taking 50 Billion probiotics, using apple cider vinegar down there to restore pH, etc. I have no new sex partners, have been married for 10 years, and he was tested and does not have E Coli. Has anyone strugged with E Coli infections? My doctor says that E Coli is another bacteria that is present everywhre, and when your pH in the vagina is off, it cannot fight off the normal bacteria and they flourish. All of my bloodwork has come back fine, except I just found out I have the beginning stages of cervical cancer. The doctor thinks this is all related, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this. It's miserable and I'm tired of having infections. If you have any insight or experience to share, please do! Thank you! smile

Hello girls, I'm doing washed with water with baking soda, to level the vaginal ph, I do it in the morning and at night, I put 16 oz. of water to boil or it will turn out turn out as boils and put him 1 oz. of baking soda and stir, let it cool, and with this I do wash. I feel relief. Try it to feel better until you get something and definitive cure. Thanks girls for sharing their experiences. Blessings.

Hello everyone. I am a 41yr old with 2 teenage boys. I had my tubes tied in 2000 and never had another problem. That was until last Monday. I woke up in a lot of pain on my right side and thought I was having an appendicitis attack. My husband took me to the E.R. They said I had an ovarian cyst rupture and sent me on my way telling me to make an OBGYN appointment.

I got a call from the E.R the day after saying they detected E-coli in my urine and started me on Sulfameth TMP 800/ 160Mg twice a day for 10 days. My pain went away. I had my follow up with the OBGYN and just got a call that my pap came back I have BV and they have called me in another prescription. I haven't even finished my first one yet. 😕

I'm not even sure if this is the right thread for me to be reading so early in the prognosis, but if there is anything else I should be doing along with following Dr's orders or if anyone has some experience strength and hope here I would love to hear it. Thank You 😬

Metronidazole is the treatment of choice for BV. Sulfamethoxizole is for a different bacteria. You needed them both.

Question: Do you or your spouse engage in any anal play or anal intercourse? If so, that is the source of your e.coli infections. Escherichia coli is a normal bacteria of the lower intestinal tract. It typically only causes problems when it gets where it doesn't belong, like the urethra, the vagina, food, skin, etc. Ask your spouse to wash before intercourse, and to never touch your vagina after touching your anus. Avoid bubble baths, wear cotton underwear, urinate after intercourse, and alway wipe from front to back to avoid introducing fecal matter and the bacteria into the vagina or the urethra. Good luck.

    Hi

i have have been suffering with yeast infections typically right before my period for years now. My Dr just gave me diflican and it would go away but always return. I recently changed Drs and now they are saying I have E. coli and yeast infections. No one seems to know what's going on and I just noticed your blog and curious and hopeful maybe you can shed some light for me because what I'm reading here I can relate with. Do I have BV????? It sure sounds like it??? Any treatments or medicines that you recommend for me?

hi, i am not a doctor however you have to ask yourself how the infection ocurred, one way is you might have gotten some fecal matter that entered into the vagina, however that happened is irrelevant that fact you tested positive for e coli  suggests that that is however the issue, of course i cannot make any recomendations as it is illegal to dispense medical advice if you are not a medical professionel, AND I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONEL, however a one time dose of flagyl might be effective a one time dose being 2000 milligrams, there is also some controversy as to wether a one time dose or if a 10 day program is more effective, the problem with the 10 day program is that it might cause a very strong yeast infection, which then creates another host of problems, keep in mind that for 48 HOURS BEFORE TAKING FLAGYLL AND FOR 72 HOURS AFTER TAKING FLAGYLL ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL AT ALL!!!!!!!! if taking the one time dose, if taking the 10 day course  of 400mg twice daily AGAIN NO ALCOHOL 48 HOURS BEFORE THE FISRT DOSE NO ALCHOL DURING THE DAY PERIOD!! AND FOR 72 HOURS AFTER FINISHING THE FLAGYL!!!!!

NOT EVEN COUGH SYRUP AS THERE MIGHT BE SLIGHT AMOUNTS OF ALCOHOL IN THE PREPARATION OF THE SYRUP, IF YOU CANNOT GO WITHOUT ALCOHOL DO NOT TAKE THE FLAGYL, AS ALCOHOL TURNS FLAGYL INTO FORMALDEHYDE.

AGAIN THIS IS NOT ANY TYPE OF ADVICE OR RECOMMENDATION, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR!!

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

as an afterthought you might want to also administer a one time dose of flagyl to your husband as if you tested positive then your husband also will have it EVEN IF HE DOES NOT TEST POSITIVE, which is probably why it keeps coming back, again this is not medical advice just reading matter.

      good luck.

if you do decide to take the flagyl after consulting with your husband refrain from having sex during thr course of treatment and for 72 hours after finishing the medication ESPECIALLY YOUR HUSBAND AS IF HE EJACULATES HE MIGHT REINFECT THE SHAFT OF THE PENIS!!

ALSO FOR THE YEAST INFECTIONS ADMINISTERING SOME PLAIN UNSWEETNED YOGURT INTO THE VAGINA MIGHT HELP FIGHT THE NEGATIVE BACTERIA AS YOGURT IS A POSITIVE AND NECESSARY BACTERIAL AGENT, I AM NOT SURE HOW LONG TO LEAVE THE YOGURT IN THERE YOU MIGHT WANT TO GOOGLE IT AND DO SOME MORE RESEARCH, I HOPE THAT YOU WILL HAVE SOME RESULTS THAT WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO YOU, THE YOGURT THING SOUNDED KIND OF STRANGE TO ME BUT WHEN I GOOGLED IT IT SEEMS TO BE QUITE EFFECTIVE.

      GOOD LUCK!!
