CITALOPRAM FOR OCD INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS

I just started the drug for OCD which does cause high levels of anxiety. Does anyone had experience of taking the drug for this condition. Did it help with the OCD  and anxiety or just the anxiety?

Hi, I was put on Sertraline 50mg for my third time already and was introduced to a nee medicine called Trazodone. I was always put on sertraline for my depression and anxiety. However, the MG i was on the 2 times before was 75mg. I stayed on both trazodone and sertraline for 2 weeks and couldnt deal. so i had her up my sertraline to 75mg and take me off the trazodone bc of the side effects. After 2 weeks, I had a episode of intrusive thoughts. I freaked out and got scared because i HATE having them thoughts. They are scary as crap and i hate having them. So she put me on Citalopram 20 mg as well as my hydroxicine. The intrusive thoughts are speratic and not all day everyday like they were 4 to 2 weeks ago but i still have them and wonder if this will pass? Ive been on anti depressants for 1 month and 2.5 weeks. Ive been on citalopram for 2 weeks tomorrow. The thoughts get scary bc i'm scared my depression will cause me to do it bc i know depression is scary. Im just a worrier. Having a phobia of being scared to die and them thoughts make it WAY worse. any tips on if the thoughts will eventually fade? any advise.

      Hi Chasidy,

The thoughts should either fade a bit and/or you will just be able to react to them better on medication.

Its important to remember that most people even without mental health issues have intrusive thoughts, its the way you react to them that causes issues.

The more you try to push them away or engage with them, the worst they will get. You need to acknowledge them like 'thats just an intrustive thought' and let them pass without reasoning with them. Like imagining the thoughts as a beach ball in the sea. If you try to push it down, it will just keep popping back up harder, if you just let it be there it will drift away.

Although a distressing thought can FEEL terrible, its important to remember that thoughts are not facts and do not mean anything.

    Hi folks.

Been struggling a while now, Im on citalopgram 25mg, started on 5mg about 2 months ago and have slowly increased to max out at 25mg which i started on 4 weeks ago. I have had really stretches of feeling good, but then I'll get some insomnia where I have to take xanax and that really bums me out, but I have noticed progress, Katecogs messages on here have been really helpful, she mentions a book, does anyone have a link to the book?

    Thanks

I am on week 9 of Cit. I was thinking and hoping that this would be the week things started looking up but honestly I feel pretty bad. Not as bad as when I started but not anywhere near as good as I am hoping to be.

I am 42 and never had problems with anxiety so much that I would need a psychiatrist and meds but I ran into a family problem and it turned my world and my families world upside down. I spent 5 days in a mental hospital (crazy! never had to do anything like that) and now am on Cit. They gave me other meds but I stuck with Cit only.

The last few weeks I have had HORRIBLE intrusive thoughts that I have never had in my life before! They scare me so much and I almost feel that it is BECAUSE OF Cit that I am having these thoughts...How can that be??? These thoughts cause me to isolate and I don't want to be away from my family! I also have these horrific debilitating migraines about once a week that i have never had before. I'm also dead tired all the time. I use to be happy go lucky and would wake up early excited to start the day but now I can easily sleep in till 11 and be tired the rest of the day. At times I feel really dead to everything, just flat and not really caring about anything. Anyone else have this experience?
