Hi Joanne - I'm not exactly sure when, but I'm at exactly 7 weeks now and can do it with no trouble. I think it was somewhere around 5 weeks? Hope you're recovery is going well :-) Mark

Hi Mark. Sounds like you're doing really well biggrin. I'm just over 4 weeks so hopefully I'll be able to do it soon.

I hope so too Joanne - but don't worry if it takes longer. Be kind to yourself and no rushing :-) Good luck!

Good point Mark. Slowly slowly catchy monkey. Ankle weights came today so maybe that will help with those thigh muscles πŸ˜€

      Hi Renee

I think you're right about it being a confidence thing. My surgery was 12th April, I've got to get this sorted because hopefully my next surgery will be in about 8 weeks. How are you doing now? I know you've had both your hips done, it's a big undertaking having both hips done with a short space in between.

Big hugs right back at ya smile

wow, that is pretty soon - mine were done with 6 months between them - but i suffered so much Joanne, it was not funny anymore - my poor, at that time, new (R) hip had no time to heal properly - so in a sense it is good that it won't be dragged along - It is quite an undertaking, you are right -Β

but ooooooooo, 2 brand new hips !!!! IΒ

      angel blessings

I know you have been put right through the ringer Renee 😟

Do you think it would of been better to wait longer than the 6 months between them?

Ps. I went at the stair with more confidence and I did it so you was right about the confidence thing.

Looking back, I would have liked it to be sooner, but didn't know I would be in so much

pain ..but timing is alway perfect ,if not, it would be a different time 😟

Hi Joanne, I am 11 weeks and still can't quite do it. I have been doing 'dips' on one step while holding on to build up the strength in the muscles and hopefully should be doing stairs in a couple of weeks.

    good luck!

      Hi Basia

Thank you for your reply, these things take time don't they, I thought with building muscle with all the physio and weights and things it would be easy! Not so ! Good luck with your stair climbing 😊 We'll feel like we've really achieved something when we can go up a stair normally. I can't wait πŸ˜‚

I know what you mean, when we can walk upstairs without help or a limp I will feel like I've arrived!!

      Hi Joanne,Β

Walking up or down the stairs (down was harder for me and still is) without aids took me longer than it should have (~ 8 weeks). But making the transiiton to walking smoothly down them (no 2-stepping or kicking out on the way down) remains a work in progress esp on the way down or when I have been sitting for a while. (I am 13 weeks LTHR posterior).

      So bravo woman!!!!Β

      Hi Linda

It sounds like you're doing great, I think each obstacle we face is different for each of us. It's good to compare notes though. Stair climbing is the only thing that I need to get boss of because I've got my next hip replacement in June and it needs to take the lead going upstairs. If I didn't have my next op scheduled I wouldn't even be thinking about it. Plenty of time though 😊
