Clunking hip

Hey all.
Im still plugging along....8 weeks post op now. I am hearing a "clunking" in my hip once in a while. No pain. Otherwise everything is going great. My surgeon lifted the 90° rule but no leg crossing or twisting still. Im wondering if bending forward is causing the "clunk". Any thoughts?
Cheers?

With the posterior approach there is the risk of dislocation from bending forward more than 90 degrees for the first 6-12 weeks. With the anterior approach the risk is bending backwards 90 degrees, which we can't do anyway. I guess it's the way the ball & socket are inserted. I had the posterior approach done in January and am still limping and going to PT twice a week. My twin sister had the anterior approach done in April and was walking 4 miles within 3 weeks. But she has tendon impingement which causes pain when she lifts her leg. I don't have pain other than muscle strengthening & conditioning. It is what it is.

I’m very glad you’re contacting your navigator. Use your walker don’t bend if you can help it. At least you’re not in pain. Go back to your walker ! And treat it as if you just had your surgery! You can’t be too careful! Good Luck!!!

I just heard back from my navigator and she spoke to my surgeon on my behalf. He stated that he is "not at all concerned" about the clicking and he'll see me in 2 months. I am to keep doing my strengthening exercises and walking.
PHEW!!
I have not heard felt a click or clunk this afternoon.

That's reassuring but I would still be aware that what you are likely to be experiencing is the ball coming out of the cup a bit and this has a dislocation potential. My understanding is that as the hip muscles strengthen this danger reduces. Take care ......

I've had the clunking too, mainly in the first few months after the op. I was told not to worry about it but be careful not to stretch past movements that cause it ie. don't overdo it. The clunking will happen less as the soft tissues recover.
