ive been on mirtazipine for 10yrs, decided to come off mid DECEMBER, i was feeling great until two weeks ago, when i've started suffering from insomnia, nervous feelings & headaches. i really dont want to go back on them again, does anyone know how long these withdrawals will last please? i am feeling really low.

Everyone's experience is different.I was only on Mirt for 13 weeks but the insomnia started when I was on 30mg, it continued while I tapered for a month and has continued for 10 weeks since I stopped the Mirt completely. I am old and maybe that is a factor in whyit is going on so long. But basically I just had a bad reaction tothe drug, so that is different to your experience if you were on it 10 years.

Some people report insomnia for days, others report weeks and for some like me it looks like months. I hope you will be lucky

Did you have insomnia. If so did you take sleeping pills or over the counter sleep aids. I am so worried because I have been taking various things. It is hard not to sleep night after night butnI know that Zopiclone, benalyl et etc are very bad for you, but so is lack of sleep. Its Catch 22. Did you manage without taking any stuff

10 yrs is a long time. cold turkey is not a good idea. check out website for surviving antidepressants. they talk about stabilizing. if you do reinstate do a much lower dose and it could take a couple of weeks to stabilize. they advise never to reinstate same dose you stopped from what I read. can I ask what dose you stopped at?

i myself am down to 9.75mg from 15mg. I'm doing very slow taper. I already had insomnia on mirtazapine but dont want to make it worse so decided to slow taper. wish you luck.

hi, many thanks for reply. i was on 15mg

15mg is a lot to cold turkey. if you decide not to reinstate look into CBD oil or sustained release melatonin. I have had insomnia for a little over 5 months. I already had it starting mirtazapine and still have it now. mirtazapine didnt help with sleep issue. I'm insomnia has improved some but not completely. I still go without sleep half the days off the week.

if you decide to reinstate start at the smallest dose you can manage and you may have to wait a few weeks to stabilize. I'm surprised your withdrawal symptoms showed up more than 4 weeks out. usually everyone says 3 to 4 weeks at the most. when I make my cut I feel it the same night and continues for a few days then I stabilize.

i was on 15mg, i have decided to go back into 7.5mg sleep ok sunday night, then last night before bed i got anxious so had yo take another 7.5mg the headaches are so bad & my sleep is on/off, i feel like a failure

see if you can stabilize on 7.5. I've read many stories and most say going back to same dose makes you worse. they say it could take 2 to 3 weeks to stabilize on lower dose.

you are not a failure you just stopped way too fast. get liquid if you can. if you are a place liquid is not available look for compounding pharmacy and have them turn your pills to liquid. you will need a prescription. you can slowly taper off with a 1ml syringe. I have them do mine 15mg/ml and every small line on syringe is 0.375mg. so you can go very slow. it's taken me 2 months to get down to 9.75mg. the only reason I cant go faster is the insomnia. the insomnia has been present since starting mirtazepine so I dont think it helped at all but I'm too scared to push my taper and make insomnia worse.

i tried last week 3.50mg & was fine, but my sleep has been awful, infact no sleep at all. i'm in the Uk & i dont think uou van get the liquid form. i hate it going dark & going to bed as know i wint sleep. i get that desparate last night i took one half of 7.50 mg couldnt sleep then took another 7.50 but feel like crap. not sure whats going on with my head but its horrible.

I've read so much on this subject. its your brain trying to readjust. try to ride it out for 2 weeks until you are stable. UK is the only place that i know that offers liquid. you have to insist on liquid form and pay for it out of pocket. I think having liquid is easier to manage tapering.

some people have reported the use of phenergan which I believe is over the counter in UK or CBD to deal with anxiety and sleep issues. I know exactly how you feel I went through severe bout of insomnia that led me to take the mirtazepine which was very disappointing because it only gave me 3 nights relief at 7.5mg then stopped working. I've dealt with insomnia for a little over 5 months. I decided in Dec to start my taper off mirtazepine. I plan on reducing slowly and pray no severe insomnia as I'm trying to withdraw as gently as possible to not send my brain into shock. I wish you luck. get the liquid when you decide to come off you wont regret it.
