cold turkey mirtazipine

Dear All

I thought my thread may be of interest to those few individuals who have been advised by medical professionals to abruptly stop mirtazipine without tapering. (Cold turkey) last night I did not take any mirt and was expecting some horrible WD symptoms today. I spent time stressing 'when is it going to hit me'! Corresponded several times today with Si (forum member). Who is further through WD cold turkey, to get reassurance and information on what to expect. (Big thank you to Si)

Day 1. Apart from a little tired I feel completely normal. Hooray! I understand it can take a few days before WD kick in. my plan is to do a spring clean, just in case I have a few days down. Interestingly I have had no tears or rages today. (Something I have been getting over the past two weeks)

I know my thread will be of little interest to most, but trying to aim my thread to those individuals who are asked to quit abruptly for medical reasons. Will try and update throughout my WD to hopefully help and reassure others. In turn this also helps me on my journey.

I can honestly say i loved mirt for bringing back me! It feels like a sad but necessary parting of the ways!

Wishing health and joy in abundance to you all ♥♥

God bless x

Day 4 or is it 5!

    Fairly certain it's day 4.

Upset stomach, general sense of being unwell, crying buckets and feel aggravated, anxious and so peed off!

In bed with diazepam and concentration and motivation has abandoned me today.

In saying that...tomorrow is a new day!

    Much love to all xx♥

Aw, Lorraine, I'm so sorry. Day four is usually the worst. Even though I have not had very bad withdrawals, they always start on day four and last for a couple of days. They also always tend to follow an almost euphoric day. That's the strange thing about withdrawal, you can also have very euphoric episodes. I guess it's your body reacting and throwing out more serotonin to compensate. I hope that you start to feel better soon! x

Thinking of you Lorraine, I hope it's short lived and doesn't linger longer.

Sending you hugs your way  ♥ x

      Thank you evergreen ♥

Only taken a 2mg diazepam and have tried to do a 'mind over matter approach'!

Feeling so tired (last night bad nightmares) so hopefully sleep will come soon! Hope your day is being kind to you♥

    Hi Lorrain,

hows day 6 gone? I read days 4 or 5 got tough. Believe me I was the same. Day 5 and I was struggling. But I'm a day off week 3 and it's been a great day. I've put the Mirt behind me and moved on. My shrink is helping me a lot. I now have to say out loud "it doesn't matter" when somethings getting on top of me or getting me down. I have to say it out loud for my brain to create a place for it to be stored rather than it rattling round in there. So try it when something is getting to you all. The Diazepam has also helped me but in 3 weeks I've only turned to it 5 times and then I don't think it did anything.

I actually think some drugs have zero effect on me especially as I read on here how these drugs have made people sleep or even zombies. I've had none of that.

Anyway give us an update and take care.

day 5 today and it's been rather grim! Poor concentration, fatigue, poor appetite and overall messed up! Taken two diazepam today and tried occupying myself but failed as clarity of mind is eluding me today! Tomorrow new day and I remain hopeful! Your post is really encouraging and delighted you have had a good day ♥ thanks again si

That's really encouraging news, Lorraine. I really hope it continues for you. It sounds hopeful as what few withdrawal symptoms I've had, I have found they usually hit around day 4 after a drop, and continue for a couple of days, before diminishing again. However day five of a 50% drop to 1.875mg and so far nothing. I have been sleeping slightly better too.

I am so pleased tapering is now being kind to you. It is incredible how well you have managed.

I have taken a sudden dive, now irritable beyond belief, stomach very bad, slight dizziness and had a crying session! Taken diazepam and now back in bed. Not sure if depression is leaving or returning! Well I guess time will tell ♥

Wishing you a great day evergreen ♥

Oh no! At a guess, it could be a mixture of the two. Remember how bad yoou were before going onto mirtazapine and how you felt it was your saviour when it kicked in. It could just be that it has now left your system and the depression is returning, but with a bit more of a kick due to withdrawal. I don't think it means that you will be one of those unlucky few who get protracted withdrawal. I reckon it will improve a little over the next few days, but if nothing has changed other than the removal of mirtazapine, yoou are bound to return to your pre-mirt depressed state. Hopefully your doctor will be able to sort out something else which suits you. But in the meantime I really think you should try a good heafty dose of inositol powder. It really does lift your spirits and I am sure it is what I have to thank for my virtually painless withdrawal so far. Google it and get some ordered. It really is good stuff. You need a very heaped tespoon in your morning tea. You can go up to double that on bad days.

I keep hearing about inositol powder, but I'm so scarred to try anymore things that alter the brains chemicals.  I wont even touch Kalms anymore.

Inositol is just vitamin 8. You cannot overdose on it except that it can give you wind and diarrhoea if you have too much, but that's no problem if you're at home and your body does get used to the high doses. I have put my moody very work stressed husband on it and he's not one to take any pills, but he loves the way it makes him feel. It has greatly reduced his stress and therefore his moodiness. You do have to take around 12-18grams for it to be effective which is lots more than in the supplement pills or on the instructions that come with the powder. But it is safe to do so.

I'm 100% getting some of that! Lucky I gave up smoking if it genetates that much methan! Lol x

How did the Kalms affect you, Si? Herbs can be paradoxical for people in WD so should be tested at a very low rate to assess.

Sorry to hear you've had a bad night Si, keep working at it, you will get through this and be well again.

Sorry for you too Lorraine, being in bed with WD on a cold January day it can only get better, the only way is up!  I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Most of the people on this or the other forum recommend taking natural herbs to suit your symtpoms and to support your own withdrawal.  They can only do good.

If you have a trusted local herbalist, maybe ask them about "Natures's Plus" Mega-Stress Complex natural herbs.  I'm not sure of your stockists, I have a very good Herbalist here where I live, it is availablke on line, it contains 100mg of Inositol (or B8), Magnesium, Zinc, alcium, Folate, Vit B6, Vit C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Valarian, Choline, PABA, and Chamolile, suitable of vegetarians.

I have been taking this for 3 days now and wanted to try it out before doing another taper, just in case it upset my stomach, and I'm absolutely fine.

It would be a good idea to read up on the Magnesium if you don't want to take supplements, it is vital to aid anxiety and sleeplessness, amongst other things.

Check out  health alicious ness .  com to read more.

Best wishes everyone, hope you get a little extra sleep tonight, I will be thinking of you all.

I had reg Kalms whilst I was on certraline I just went from bad to worse the more things I tried. I just wanted something to calm me down and get me on a flight so the chemist suggested them.
