Hi Millie...do not do it without sedation. Quite painful procedure unless u have Mega mega pain tolerance . I have had quite few in my time and wouldn't be without sedation ! Wonderful stuff ! Good luck MJ

First time I had it years ago they did it without because I was pregnant and it was in small rural hospital they couldn't complete it cos of pain. Always had sedation after that in the city hospitals. Β It is magic magic stuff. Where I am u go to procedure unit and go through the paper process....lots medical ?s bout urself. U have temp blood pressure pulse checked...change into gown and have venflon put into vein for the pain relief .i had to wait short period of time then into procedure room and onto the bed. Nurse chatted away to me and barely noticed doc putting in sedation ....then u get nice woozy feeling of wellbeing and he or she does procedure. U can watch it on their screen and u do not feel pain. They have to insert air into colon for the examination but it's ok too. Between chatting to staff and watching camera going round u barely notice time passing. It's wee buns as saying goes lol. Then after camera is out u r moved to recovery room for hour and tea and toast ( where I attend)and then home with whoever has accompanied u. And rest for remainder of day.The worst part of the whole thing is taking the prep the day b4. Good luck and keep us posted MJ

It sounds similar to the sigmoidoscopy they just asked afew questions about my health medication etc took blood pressure checked pulse etc

Then changed into a gown and stuck in a waiting room with like 5 old men it was terrible!! Lolol

I have told them I was flexible so they said they can offer me next week and turns out its the private hospital in glasgow im going to so I'm lucky!!

Oh dear that was uncomfortable. Sometimes the private hospitals are not as generous with their tea and toast ! But u will prob have very little waiting about Β πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

As many people say, the prep is the worst part. When they sedated me, I fell asleep and didn't feel a thing. The sedation works differently on different people but I think most fall asleep. If not, you are in a haze and don't feel much. Best of luck!!

    Hi Millie

Def have the sedation, I have had a few of these over the years and they are not fun! The only thing with sedation is that you need someone to take you home and be with you for 24hrs after. I have had both with and without sedadtion as I had no one to go home with. Look at it this way, would you have a tooth extracted without pain relief? smileΒ

    Good luck!

I don't think you will want to be going out on the Sat night, when I had mine done it kinda messed me up for a few days after, was going to the loo lots and didn't feel up to leaving the house! I had the sedation it helps relieve the discomfort but I was still awake enough to watch what was going on on the screen. But it's not as painful as I was expecting it to be after having the Sid, that really freaked me out! Lol good luck, if you have any questions ill try to help, but I'm kinda still muddling through and waiting for more tests to be done, but we are thinking I have ulcerative colitis and crohns .......bummer! Lol x

Hi Millie I've had a few flex sigs & colonoscopies. Only had sedation with colonoscopies & so need someone to drive you home. Colonoscopy gives a much more detailed view of the whole of the colon so dr can see how much is affected. It was slightly uncomfortable but not painful. Try not to worry and I'm sure you'll find it's not as bad as you expect. Gd luck.

Hi millie I had one done 2 weeks ago I wouldn't worry to much I didn't ask for to much sedation as I wanted to be awhere of what they were doing and finding. I also have uc which I didn't know for the last 4 months so the flare up was very bad. My meds have just know started to kick in. You feel so much better after you know what you have got if you know what I mean. You may find cutting out wheat in your diet may help. If you Google foods to avoid with uc this may help flare ups to.

    Good luck

I'm still bleeding every time I go to the toilet! I've got a great diet And tried cutting out different types of foods nothing's working!! Fingers crossed I'll get an end to this sometime!!xx
