Anybody had vasectomy reversal fix erection issues/erectile dysfunction ???

Hi im a 30 year old male that had a vasectomy in january 2013 (10 months ago)

I've been having ED (erectile dysfunction) for the last 1-2 months. Sometimes I'm able to attain a weak erection, my penis is noticeably softer than it was before all of the issues I'm having. After orgasm my penis looses girth almost immediately. Furthermore I'm UN able to continue with intercourse even with a rest of 30 or so mins, I have always been able to go multiple rounds of intercourse with my wife without any issues previously. I have always been very sexually active without any issues what so ever. This issue us really causing me to feel low and my wife is concerned for me, which is impacting on her ability to be comfortable during intercourse. I'm considering a vasectomy reversal due to this. My doctor has arranged the usual blood tests, i.e to measure testosterone levels etc. I'm yet to receive the results. I can only maintain an erection through intense physical stimulation. I previously only needed to be visually stimulated, this is very frustrating for me. Furthermore im only able to maintain an erection during vaginal penetration whilst im on top of my wife with my wifes legs are pushed up and back, as this gives me more sensation in my penis.. i struggle to maintain an erection when my wife is on top or if we do it whilst i'm behind her.

Im totally aware that those within the medical field will be totally dismissive of the vasectomy procedure being the culprit for my ED issue. However im a believer that not all people fit into the same category within current research, as we are all unique and no two people are exactly the same. Not all people's bodies will always react in the same way to the same situation.

Is there a way back from this mess without the use of drugs ??

Last night I failed to have an erection, even through intence visual and physical stimulation. I had consumed alcohol and did feel tipsy, I have always found alcohol enhanced my erections and sexual desire. This was very shocking for me. Due to this I reluctantly took 50mg of a viagra type pill that was prescribed by my doctor. It took well over 1 hour for it to work, I was able to have the best erection I've had I months. I don't want to take drugs to combat this issue, I'm becoming very depressed due to this.

Has anybody out there had this issue resolved by having a vasectomy reversed??

I'm concidering having it reversed to hopefully fix my erection issues. Furthermore I feel as if my testicles have atrophied (shrunk in size) somewhat since the vasectomy. If there is scar tissue and atrophied testicles etc or general damage to my genital area could my body heal the the damaged tissues etc through having a reversal??

any information would be greatly appreciated, and many thanks in advance .liam

Female counterpart: You are certainly not alone. I have noticed all of these issue present in my partner since his Vasectomy, right down to the atrophied and his need to place me in the same potion you mentioned in your second post, far more then he did before his procedure. Intimacy has not been the same since.

You mentioned (For me it just is not the same when so much effort is involved in doing something that was once so natural and readily available on demand.)

This brought on tears, as I can quite thoroughly relate,  it has been a daunting endeavour to find a helpful solution or a positive feedback regarding this subject. The medical industry is quite harsh and quick to push your focus elsewhere once this subject is broached.

Please do not let anyone corner you into believing that this occurrence is merely coincidence that exists in your mind. I assure you it is very real.

The decision to undergo a Vasectomy has turned into one of the most destructive choices him and I have made. A reversal is the last option we have left, a very expensive solution..

Sexual dysfunction has manifested on both sides as a result, I am 30 and he is 40. It has been 1 year 3 months since his surgery, the issues just keep getting worse. Viagra brings him to full potential, been using it on and off for quite some time now. It isn't a pleasant feeling or a positive long term emotional endurance. The pressure is constantly on to save SAVE save money for the reversal, in wild hope that we can see an end to this strain.

Do not wait to long, in my experience time does not help on this front.

Best Wishes for the future Syberk1d

I was at the lowest point in my life. I eventually turned to Viagra. He gave me my life back. I know at this point it is psychological and physical. But I will do whatever it takes to live a normal life and have a great sex life with my wife. I hide it from her and I am not proud of that but I do have my life back and am willing to sacrifice risk but I will do whatever it takes to live a normal life and have a great sex life with my wife. I hide it from her and I am not proud of that but I do have my life back and am willing to sacrifice risks in order to keep it that way. I hurt you to use hills if not for your sanity to at least get you back on track. The side effects for me have been nothing but long-lasting great sex. Once you get into the cycle your mind takes over and even if you don't have a problem physically you end up getting one because of the power of the mind.

Whist viagra can help it doesn't always address root issues from pain or any psychological issues.

Not to mention potential health risk from "sneaking" viagra. It can cause health issues on its own and if, God forbid, you had adverse reaction of Drs aren't aware of drug history in A&E then wrong treatment could be given or misdiagnosis made.

Why the need to hide it from wife?

Just hope your sneaky taking doesn't also indicate a sneaky supply...that is to say sourced without Drs prescription.

However i I wish you well

This thread was started over a year ago.. Has any new information come to light? My husband and I are 23 years old. I am not able to take any form of hormonal birth control, or have any implants due to an autoimmune condition. After 3 kiddos back to back, a vasectomy was our only option. 4 months later, my husband is having the same complications mentioned by all of you. He tried to hide it from me for a while so I'm not sure when it started. It came to light when I became self conscious, thinking I was the problem. He didn't want me to feel that way and spilled the beans. It has only become worse since then. Did I mention that we are only 23?! My heart is breaking for him as I can see the deep disappointment, self-blame, feeling of failure in his eyes. Please tell me that there is some way to fix this? He has been taking make enhancement supplements (horney goat weed- make XXL..) and they are no longer working. We cannot afford any out of pocket doc visits right now so I'd really appreciate feedback! Thank you and I am so sorry to you all..

      Hi

I'm so really sorry you're both in the position you are.

Post vasectomy pain syndrome is truly horrible and devastating. The medical profession could limit the damage by advising of all risks but they don't, they downplay and minimise then when pushed into a corner they day sell you could have this and try and wash their hands of the patient.

I've had the sheer hell of this for 4 years nearly now.

I'm sorry to say there is no cure for this, they don't know exactly what causes it so they have no idea how fix or cure.

They can *try* and control the pain with drugs but they don't always really help and due to the drugs involved they can totally screw your sex life and ability to even have sex.

I've tried many drugs now. Amitriptyline, nortriptyline, pregabalin, gabapentin, dihydracodeine amongst others.

For a while oramorph and Zomorph helped but breakthrough pain increased and over time my body began to tolerate the relief do the dose crept higher and higher until it became a dose suitable for palliative care.

I had further surgery, epidydectomy, it was a risky procedure with regards its success rate not being hugely high. Sadly I fell on the wrong side of risk and the pain increased plus the testicles became tender all the time on top of the neutral pain.

The Drs decided the morphine dose was to high and wanted it reduced. The titration down was sheer hell.

To war the withdrawal and to counter the pain they recently started me on methadone.

I have had two weeks totally pain free but then the pain started creeping up again and its home from pain free to bloody uncomfortable again. I've another Pain Management clinic tomorrow and we'll have to see what they come up with.

Whilst methadone made me pain free for a while it made sex impossible. Viagra helps get and maintain erection but methadone makes it nearly impossible to climax.

A trade off...ability to have sex and ejaculate very rarely or reducing pain.

It's good your husband had told you what's been going on and how he feels. It's lonely enough a condition and he'll feel better knowing he has you talk to with it all.

It is crap to live with but it does become more bearable if he can get the pain relief right.

You'll both need support with sex life issues if it continues to be an issue. I know we all need / want sex but for a man to not be able to do his husband / manly duties can be total and utter hell to deal with and your husband may not say much but under the surface may be paddling like hell to try and cope with it. Cuddles, hugs and soft words can help so much.

Again I'm so very sorry you've found yourself in this position, so sorry

Sorry to hear this. I'm 4 years post snip and like PVP ouch have tried epdidymectomy, injections into my nuts and drugs. None of iT works. I was booked in for two more surgeries but I've given up.

It's not curable and it virtually ends your sex life. Sorry to sound negative but the snip is too widely promoted as risk free and many women insist a man gets it done, but all this is because the GP won't tell you 1 in 10 get PVPS.

We both regret the decision. I've been offered reversal on the one side that had the epdidymectomy but that's always been the least painful. My doc severed a blood supply on one side. To top my complications my testosterone is now half what it should be for my age and I can't get the endocrinology consultanT to help. It's just 9nmol where average is 20. All because of poor surgery. They won't admit that either.

What you have experienced is the same thing I have been experiencing.  About three-six months after my vasectomy, I noticed I was having trouble staying hard. I can echo all that you have said. My vasectomy was about 5 years ago. My libido is as high as it ever was. I just can't get hard like I used to get.  Manual stimulation gets my partially hard but nowhere near the strong erection I had before my vasectomy. In addition, there is no response at all done there from pure visual stimuli. From the posts of all those men who have experienced the same thing after their vascetomies, I am not encouraged that this can be corrected by a vascetomy reversal. Although I am still aiming to try that.  I would just like to know what has happened that has caused this ed. Whatever was cut has to have been the cause of this for most of us. My feeling is that there has to be a urologist out there who knows why we have experienced this outcome from our vasectomies and who knows what needs to be done to restore our sexual vitality. If a surgery caused it, a surgery should be able to correct it.  And let me add, I have also experienced some testicular shrinkage and penile shrinkage. I would love to know why there has been such an apparent reduction of blood flow into my penis when manually stimulated?  What is preventing the erection? Can anyone answer that question? It has to be related somehow to the vascetomy.

I never write about personal things, but if my experience can be of help, then it's worth it. Nice to have found this posting (I am in US). I have experienced the same symptoms of ED and dull pain from time to time since my vasectomy over 20 years ago. Learned to creatively deal with it. Then I met and married a younger woman and wanted to have kids again. We researched a wonderful doctor (micro surgeon) who only does reversals and has done over 2000 of them. Went in for procedure not expecting much more than an opportunity to have kids again and still am not sure if it will happen (has only been a few weeks). But, an unexpected benefit occurred and not sure why. My erections are robust and raging like I was as a teenager and she and I are blown away. Not sure if this is mental or physical, all I know is it's happening. All love positions I shied away from over the years are now in play since my reversal and the thickness is incredible. Your mileage may vary, but we are happy campers!

Now, the main goal is pregnancy, and we haven't achieved it yet, but I am hopeful. Until then, we are happy with this "side effect" we never saw coming.

      triles,

Thank you for chiming in on this forum. I am encouraged by your testimony to what your vasectomy reversal has done for you. Just today I saw the Urologist who did my vasectomy 9 years ago. He was sure a reversal wouldn't solve my issues. He gave me the option of a penis pump, pills for ed, or injections. I took some Stendra, but so far they were as unsuccessful on me as Levitra and Cialis. I needed to see him to find out what his thoughts were and if he would do any tests before I went for the reversal. He assessed my testosterone by viewing my physicality and learning from me that my sex drive is still through the roof. I have observed from my internet searches that not all Urologists are as skeptical about reversals. Therefore, I am not especially discouraged by his perspective. Right now I am of a mind based on those who have experienced the same symptoms that I have experienced after my vasectomy and based on your positive testimony from your reversal to give reversal a shot. After all, all I have to lose if the surgery is done properly is a bit of money. I'll just have to make more. Thanks for your input, triles. It was helpful.

Hi, I am soooo glad to hear that the reversal worked wonders for you.  I swear, I want to bust my Urologist in the mouth every time he tells me that my ED issues are all in my head or that there is no scientific proof that a vasectomy can cause ED.  I had mine 3 years ago when I was 47.  Prior to having it, I was a sex machine. But I noticed an immediate difference afterwards.  It was like a light switch got cut off.  I still have a strong libido but I can rarely muster a good erection without taking a pill and sometimes that doesn't work.  My doctor put me on Testosterone injection therapy every 2 weeks and it seemed to do the trick 3 years ago. But now, they aren't giving me the bang for the buck that they once did. Now that my wife and I broke up, I have to get back out here on the dating scene at 50 years old.  I need my package to work reliably again.  Thanks for sharing your experience.  I will look this micro surgeon up and see if I can afford to get mine reversed.  Can you at least tell me the city and state that this doctor is located in?

      Hi robert80429,

Did you ever get the city and state of that micro surgeon?  I would like to get a reversal next year, if possible, and get it from a reputable Urologist.

      Kind regards,

I too would like to know where this microsurgeon is located, I am 35 years old and experiencing the same ED issues. 6 months ago my libido was through the roof, and erections no problem at all, now after vasectomy they are week, and it takes a whole lot to stimulate me. Very frustrating!!

If anyone has some info, please share.  Thanks

My husband had a vasectomy when he was 40 years old, about 14 years ago. Ever since it has destroyed our sex life.  It almost killed him because of the health problems caused by it. His blood pressure when through the roof, another issue cause by the vasectomy. I thought a vasectomy would improve our love life, no more planning or worrying about having more kids. My husband didn't like using condoms and I didn't want to fall pregnant like my grandmother with triplets at 42.  Living this nightmare, I would have gladly had quintuplets, if I knew what I know today about the damage it does to both partners, mentally and physically. My husband denied that anything was wrong for many years, but I knew within a short few months that his morning erection had gone and he couldn't maintain an erection. Then, later within a few months his blood pressure was very abnormal. My husband had the procedure done at a vasectomy clinic in Sydney because I had heard that many men develop pain and discomfort. Unfortunately, the result was the same.  All the stories that I have read in the forum are correct!  Another disappointment, is that my husband's GP refused to relate it back to the vasectomy.  He had the nerve to say that it had nothing to do with the vasectomy, but our relationship. That didn't help, and neither did the Viagra that he prescribed.  It actually made it worse, now my husband doesn't even want to try to make love. I have cried heaps because it is a known fact in natural health circles that the vasectomy procedure is dangerous!!!  My only medical proof is a study done on monkeys, and if they are the closest related animals, then the studies show that all a number of serious health problems, not just ED, which can be related to the vasectomy procedure. There are a few books written about vasectomy. One is by an Australian Dr. Lou Zaninovich (retired) Vasectomy, Before and After.  Another book by Dr. HJ. Roberts, M.D. Is Vasectomy Worth the Risk?  I have read in many places that the reversal of the vasectomy procedure does not improve ED. I can't say it does or it doesn't, but it may get rid of pain. What we did try is acupuncture, it helped lower his blood pressure and erectile function for a little while. However, my husband doesn't like to talk about the problem and for me that makes matters worse.  Also, I read a lot of people on this forum are very fit.  My husband is also very fit, he has lost lots of weight, but his ED is still very bad. My only advice is to keep having sex, as the less times you have sex the worse ED becomes.  There are many more reasons not to have a vasectomy, I hope as a female I can convince young and old men please do not consider having it done. Importantly, tell other men not to have it done. The news is no better for women who have tubal ligation.

Wondering if a reversal ever considered or done?

    • Posted

Hello, Yes we did consider a reversal, but his blood pressure was always high even on mediation, Only now that he is a bit fitter and lost about 10 kilos that the blood pressure has come down. He tried to get off the medication, but it goes up again. You basically need to reverse it within the first few years, otherwise less chance of success and besides not chance it was going to improve ED.  I think a lot of marriages break up as a result, but no one wants to believe that a vasectomy can cause so many health and mental issues too. I don't know how we have, may be because I am a bit more understanding of the situation. Thanks for your prayers!  I have looked for years for other people to say something about the vasectomy procedure.  Only now after 14 years I have found other people on this forum who have experienced the same issues.  I have said to our kids not to have a vasectomy or any vaccinations.  Yes, I brought the subject of vaccinations because it can cause sterility in females and males!

While there are cases, such as David states, seems most who've had a reversal have positive feedback.. im praying heavily, it will be to my benefit

Id say, if it was the only thing that was different before issues began, go back. At least it removes doubt and has potential for better. Everything else wpuld be related to overall health amd diet

Im scheduled for Feb, so hope to return with positive feedback.

      My best to you

What problem did you have after the reversal?  I had the name of a very good micro surgeon in Sydney for the reversal, he was semi-retired 14 years ago.  Then, he was supervising a new team of doctors to do the procedure, sorry I don't know any more.  I think his name was Dr. Jerry Person, I think it was in Sydney.
