I had one on September 10th, 2014 and would love to compare notes with anyone else that has had one.   Thank You.  ChuckP   PS Some people just call it a "PAE" for short.

I am trying to find an interventional radiologist in the US to do a PAE who is NOT doing the procedure as part of a research project. If you had a successful PAE done in the states, not as part of a research study, I would appreciate hearing from you with the name of your hospital and doctor.

    Thanks,

Neal, there is a De Bagla at Inova Hospital, Alwxandria, VA. This doc is out of clinical trial and uses the FDA approved Magellan robotic catheter guidance. I'm working with Nicole in his office for a phone consult and the a procedure date. My BPH symptoms vary from mild to unbearable. I can't put my finger on it but hoping I don't have too many more "unbearable" days before I'm scheduled. Good luck...I never knew it would become this problematic.

      Neal,

i had had my done at UNC Chapel Hill NC as part of clinical trial, but I was told they are doing the PAE outside of the trial as well. Try giving Dr Isaaxson an email. His contact info is on their website. Just google UNC PAE and his contact info is there. He will actually call you back and discuss the procedure with you.

Thanks for the info. That is a big relief, since I really don't want to participate in a trial if I don't have to. I will contact him this afternoon.

Thanks for the info. UNC is closer to where I live, so I will try that first, since they are, apparently also out of trial, but Dr. Bagla is now second on my list. Good luck. If you can get daily Cialis, you might try that. It also helps with BPH symptoms, and perhaps it will be enough to tide you over until your procedure. Please let us know how it goes.

I had PAE procedure by Dr. Shivank Bhatia at Univ of MIami last December. Benefits started to kick in by day 10 after the procedure when burning sensation had stopped and marked improvement a few days after. Significant reductions of all BPH symptoms -  improved flow rate, volume, feeling less is retained. No side effects to date and overall feeling of improvement continues 9 months after - and It's great to be off the BPH meds. All thanks to Dr. Bhatia's direction, thorough analysis of my individual physiology, the right mix of science and art, and his personal and attentive level of care. He has a great bedside manner and was diligent in following up to see how I was doing.

I think he will become one of the experts in this area - is involved in clinical trials and other studies so he can do the best for his patients and be at the forefront of his field.

I have not seen the Doctors  name you are the 1st to post how was he?

Did you feel anything or where you put to sleep

Did you have to have a proctoscopy where they put a catheter in your urethra before and after the procedure to take pictures of your bladder?

Also, a cystoscopy with a catheter through the rectum.  These are required in the clinical trial at Stanford that I am exploring.  It is the only location I could find in the northwest for PAE.

      NO!  Absolutely not.

Have no clue why they would do that. Tell them to talk to the doc's that have done hundreds of them. Sounds like unneccesary torture.

Tell them way too invasive, unneccesary, and added dangers of infection and whatever other deleterious things that could happen while they are inserting their terrible tools.

I would travel to where the experienced doc's are. Way safer. On this blog they say that the procedure should cost you around 7,000.00 plus your travel. If you can't pee and can't good a good nights sleep it is well worth it, trust me on that. I have my life back!

hi chuck, i was wondering how bad was the pain you experienced after the PAE presedure and did you take meds for the pain? Was it a full ten days that the pain lasted? I plan to have this procedure so your in put is very important.

How big was your prostate. I have 80 gram prostate.

    best

Hi Lou, I had my PAE three months ago ....I had an uncomfortable three days with burning and incontinence but by day four everything cleared up. Pain was never much of an issue for me. If you're traveling the next day make sure you have some incontinence pants...just in case.

It was the best thing I ever did. Urination worries are a thing of the past. I don't even think about it anymore.

I hope it all goes well for you.
