I had one on September 10th, 2014 and would love to compare notes with anyone else that has had one.   Thank You.  ChuckP   PS Some people just call it a "PAE" for short.

This forum was helpful when I had to make a decision about prostate artery embolization. Wanted to share my experience.

I had my PAE with Dr Sandeep Rao in El Paso about 5 months ago. Painless procedures and I went home 2 hours after the PAE. The first 2-3 months, my results fluctuated with one day of typical symptoms (getting up at night) for every 4-5 days of improvement, but now my symptoms have normalized. I feel 18 again! I don't need to get up at night.

Dr Rao uses the Magellan robot for my procedures and he trained under Dr Bagla for this procedure. He's a young guy but seems to be getting good results with PAE. He's out in West Texas, but it was worth making the drive to his hospital. They accepted my insurance, so it all worked out in the end!

Had the PAE early June with Dr. Bagla.  Usually I get up at least once per night. Usually twice which is a great improvement. I can sit through a movie easily. No urgency but during the day there can still be some frequency. Every day can be different. Very happy with results but not 18 again like you.

Compared to the turp 2 and half years ago which was medieval torture and didn't work I am so happy that I did the research last fall and found the PAE,  My urologist wanted to do the turp again and would not tell me about the PAE which I found out later he knew about. Just interested in making money and the heck with the patient!

Hi Bill; Did you know that Dr. Bagla has left Inova Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia and it is the worlds biggest secret where he went.  I have called there 3 times now to try and get his number and email and mysteriously no one can tell me a thing about where he went.  NO, Iam not kidding.  He did my PAE in the fall of 2014.  At first I was "thrilled" but now some 15 months later Iam still getting up 3 times a night.  I also had a "Urolift" in June of 2015 with no luck either.  I have learned to live with it as I refuse at age 65 to have a Turp or a Turis or a Greenlight or a Holep which all are basically a "CASTRATION PROCEDURE".   Hope all is well with you and your family .

Dr. Bagla is at Vascular Institute of Virginia.

      Hello Chuck

Yes I know that he left inova.

Somewhere in this blog it says that he is relocating I think somewhere in Virginia.

I'm very happy with my PAE but my urination is not like it was when I was 18.

I will do it again down the road if I have to.

The turp I will never do again.

Had my P.A.E. in the Wesley hospital, Brisbane, Australia yesterday.  The proceedure was performed by Drs Nic Brown and Duncan Walker. They were only able to embolise one side because of blood vessel anomolies on the other.  I stayed overnight unnecessarily I think. Its now just over 24 hours and I am already peeing better after noticably shorter initialisating.  Suffered no pain or after effects. Very pleased so far, will post again as further observations permit.

Well done Hans. I had mine done in Sydney 7 months ago. I stayed overnight and am glad I did. I'm looking forward to your next report.

Mine was very successful and at 7 months Im still continuing to improve.

It is normal for you to have some worsening symptoms after a few more days. Don't panic when this happens. Expect continued improvement from that point over the next 3 months.

Hi Joe, from memory I tested the waters at around day 5. The missus and I were very pleased. You may with a bit of luck get to be in the 30% of guys who report improved sexual performance after PAE.

I experienced better erections and the improvement is continuing. I suffer from ED but now I'm at the point where I'm almost ready to forgo the viagra. I think that will happen in the next three months if the improvement continues at current rate.

Joe, I forgot to wish you all the best for a highly successful outcome.

Hey caring thanks for the info, maybe I can make it 5 days lol. That is GREAT news on the improvements you are having. It's not often you get a good side effect.

And thanks for the good wishes, I am.excited about. I just wish I could have gotten in sooner. Dr Isaacs on is scheduling about a month out right now, and I am sure as more men learn about it, that's just gonna be longer.

3 to 5 days sounds about right. I think we waited 4 days. Don't panic if the semen is light brown because there is a little blood mixed in. That's ok. You might want to advise your partner. Also, there was some minor pain when I ejaculated. That decreased over the next 3-4 times, after which it went away. Again, that's ok.

Thanks neal, glad for the heads up about that. I am assuming the pain wasn't bad enough to keep you from doing it lol.

Hey Joe - the SpringHill Suites on McFarland Drive were nice and convenient.

Dang I already made reservations at the Holiday Inn Express. It looks fairly close, and they have a shuttle. I will be by myself so Im sure they wont let me drive.

      Joe & Rick,

Good luck with your PAE's.. A little over 8 months now and mine is still wonderful. Any place close is fine. You will not be in the hotel much. I had no problem driving before and after my procedure. I drove home to Atlanta (8.5 hrs) the next day. You will love Dr Isaacson. Tell him that Larry S. From Atlanta area said hello. I had my PAE April 1st 2015 as part of the clinical trial.

Thanks Larry and really glad to hear your doing good. I am very excited to finally get to do it. Dr Isaacson has totally impressed me and I haven't even met him .

So you drove home the day after? Did you see him again that day?

      Thanks Joe

I stayed in the hospital the night after the procedure and then drove myself to the hotel the next morning.
    • Posted

Oh man I was trying to avoid staying in the hospital for the night. How much extra did they charge for that?
    • Posted

Nothing extra.  I think they did it because I didn't have anyone with me to drive me.  I was surprised too!  I was the only one in that section and it was nice and quiet.  It helped that I had a later procedure time.
    • Posted

I am not gonna have anybody with me either, I was just gonna take the shuttle back to the hotel.
    • Posted

The charge was around A$650. Will get some back from my private fubd.
    • Posted

Did they say they would release you for the shuttle?  My impression is that they wouldn't have for me.  I felt comfortable being in the hospital the first night anyway.  Best of luck to you!

The first time was the worst, but it was a hell of a lot of fun getting there. The pain, frankly, overcame much of the good feeling of ejaculation that time, but overall, it was well worth it. From there on, it got better. Don't sweat it; you may have no pain at all. I just wanted to make you aware of the possibility, so it wouldn't be a surprise. My pain was about 1/4 of a minor toe stubbing , or vaccination.

No I didnt tell them I was going to do thst. I told them I would try to bring someone with me,

I didn't stay over night. I took a taxi to the motel after the procedure and was by myself.

I was not firing on all 8 cylinders until the next morning.

You have to take it easy.

The next day since I was next door to Washington DC and wanted to see things while I was there I took the rail into the city and walked 5 miles around to see everything that I could during the next day. I probably did too much. Then went home the day after that to Maine and proceded to open my campground for the season whereby I had to push, pull, lift etc and I popped the artery open where the incision was and caused an internal bleed. My entire thigh got black and blue! Ooops!!!

Turned out okay but message is take it easy for a week or two afterwards.

      Joe,

I did not have to go back to the hospital the day after. I spoke with Dr Isaacson by phone from motel and he gave me the go ahead to drive back home. I forgot to mention I did have someone with me when they released me after the procedure, but I did drive back to the Hampton Inn a few miles away. It would be probably be better to take a cab or shuttle though.

    • Posted

Ok I was hoping as long as I was not driving they would let me go. I really don't want to stay there overnight.

      Thanks

Wow bill you really went overboard. That sounds like something I would do. I took off work for the whole week, so hopefully other than driving I won't be doing much.

Hey rick, are you still having your procedure on the 27th ?

Just so you and anybody else coming to NC know, they have got a ton of ice up here. I came up a day early just in case, and I sure am glad I did. If you are driving, leave with plenty of time to spare.

got my scan on Monday, and procedure on Tues, cant wait.

Just wondered how you went on with your procedure.  I've been thinking about scheduling an appointment with Dr. Isaacson, but I haven't seen your follow-up.  It's possible I missed it.
