rivaroxaban

I've been on warfarin for just over a year and have to be on it for life but want to change to Rivaroxaban as there is no regular INR checks. My GP said that it can't be done as no-one has ever been on Rivaroxaban long term. Can anybody tell me if this is correct? or have I been fobbed off.

    how is it going with rivaroxaban.  My husband has been taking it for three years now and can no longer use his left hand and his right hand is going the same way.  He is still taking the drug!!!!

      Hi ..i stopped taking rivaroxaban after a couple of weeks because it affected by stomach and i didn't feel right .back on warfarin ...sometimes it's a case of better the devil u know than the devil you don't ...i still wonder if the patients are being used as guinea pigs because it such a new drug ...The better 1 and more expensive is apoxiban...wrongly spelt but begins with A...ask if he can try that ..take care x

      Hiya Jilly, I took Rivaroxaban but had a few issues with joint pain and headaches and so my specialist decided to put me back on Warfarin again and the side effects are a little less. Sorry to hear your husband is suffering with a few side effects. I know from experience that they can cause lots of problems with everyday life.

      Do you get joint pain with Warfarin? I did but stopped the 1mg tablets as they have E123 and Amaranth in them to colour them. I use 0.5mg, 3mg and 5mg without any problem.

    Hello Rob,

    This was over a year ago but your GP is right, Rivaroxaban is a relatively new anti-coagulant whereas Warfarin has been prescribed for over 50 years . I have been on Warfarin since Nov 2011 and have no side effects and a stable INR . I self monitor with my own Roche Coaguchek blood analysing meter and have after some research used my own 15 page guide to reduce food , drink , medicines etc that interact with Warfarin up or down .  Hope this helps .

    Hi, just wondering how old people are who are taking Rivaroxiban, my fiance is only 35 and has a PE, he's been taking this drug for 2 months and over the past 2 weeks he's been really dizzy, feeling sick and feels like an old man! He hasn't been told why the PE developed and we have been to the doctors and A and E about the side effects and all he's been given is anti - sickness and anti - dizziness pills, any advice would be amazing.

      I am not medically trained i can only say I was on warfarin for many years only problem was having to have a blood test on a regular basis thought I would try rivaroxaban for a few weeks ..had flu like symptoms and my body ached and indigestion ...i decided to go back on warfarin which is an old a proven medication and i was fine again ...i am on anticoagulant for arterial fibrillation. I can only say how I preferred warfarin ...Good luck 😊

      Hi Natasha. I have been on Apixaban for nearly two years. This is also one of the newer drugs. I did not want to go on Warfarin. My cardiac nurse recommended my particular drug and it is the most expensive. Fingers crossed in the two years I have been on it I have not experienced any side effects.

    Hi Rob, I have had 3 blood clots, the first 1 they put me on warfare, the second 1 they put me on rival oxidant and on the last 1 I asked to be put on river oxidant. When asked why I just told the doc that if I have to be on a blood thinner for the rest of my life then I'd rather it be river oxidant. I just think your doctor is too lazy to do the paperwork, because it does need to be checked now and then and it is registered with the haemostasis team. Hope that helps, I would see another doctor and ask their opinion.

    I came off warfarin and have been transferred to apixoban for life.

    the warfarin was causing bleeds, and blood had to be removed from my knee joints at A and E,

    i have had a valve repair, and after research h my consultant recommended transfer to Apixoban for life

      How much swelling did you have on your knees?

      Are you in AF ? If so prior to the repar or since ? I went into AF after mt aortic valve replacement.

      Sorry..I forget to say that I in AF,both prior to the repair and after.For this I take digoxin.I am 73 and delighted to be still playing tennis and managing the anticoagulants

    The swelling was huge..I was on crutches and could not bend knee at all.

    This happened twice.I also tore a leg muscle and again finished up on crutches as the bleeding did not stop.My injuries have been sport related, but the non clotting while on warfarin was the problem.

    I still play my sport ,tennis,but am less likely to have bleeds.

    Nowadaays, also when I was on warfarin,I stop taking the anticoagulant,for at least 24 hours to allow the blood to clot,after an injury

    i have been on warfrin for a year i have Arterial fibulation (quivering top left chamber ) i am just changing to Rivaroxaban today  was told no antidote by doctor . After reading all these coments it  made me confused and nervous about changing. I still work so guess accidents could happen are you just left to bleed to death due to no antidote ..geez thats scarey .Wondering should i stay on warfrin in that case . wish i knew whats best ....

       The new anticoagulant dabigatran etexilate (Pradaxa) has an antidote and its bleeding and stroke risk is sightly less than for rivaroxaban!
