Loss of sexual desire/activity

Had a green light procedure last June. It took several months before thing returned to near normal. Even though I am 69, I previously has a sex life. Maybe not nightly, but certainly more than monthly.

Since last August there has been no actvity. Nothing to work with, so to say. Cialis has had noi effect and I don't believe Vigara will help eitther. My UR has suggested needles and devices which do not interrest me. Is there a possibilty that the GL procedure ended my sexual active days?

Yes. Its also possible that it will come back over time. Also, if Cialis didn't work, Viagra might. And if Cialis doesn't work now, it might later.

Thanks for the input. I have a script for geneic Viagra. Dr recommends up to 5 doses per event. Tried 4 the other night, but didn't feel interested. I'm not ready to hang up the guns yet, but I would rather than go through the injection prcedure.

Five is one Hell of a dose and could do you harm.

The med is 20mg Sildenafil and the label states to take 2 to 5 tabs.

I looked at your first statement, " ... but didn't feel interested ... "  and then compared it to your second statement, " ... not ready to hang up the guns yet ... "  My friend, is it a physiologic issue, or is it something else?  I'm just going to put it out there.  What about the possibility of talking to someone about this?  Keep shootin' cowboy.  69 isn't THAT old.

I agree Alan. The mind feeds off the physical. Hard to differentiate, especially with all of the variables. I initally felt that maybe it was time, bur have realized it may not be. Hence, I'm on the forum learning about hoiw others are handling the issue. It's ironic, buy I have used the same metaphor myself.

Yes, they did not do a bladder neck sparing PVP.

Taking tissue from the bladder neck area is where it can  harm your sexual function. I had my PVP in 2004 by a team doing a trial with the laser equipment and that was the area they wanted to avoid.

Actually I awoke the next morning with an erection while the overnight cargeter was in!

have a Titan penile implant that I got last December. My wife and I absolutely love it. It has solved a problem I had to one degree or another for over 50 years!

I had GL when I was 60 and then HOLEP when I was 68. Same problem as you're having. I ended up using the needles. Not ideal but not so bad really. Give it a try; it's better than giving up.

    Good luck

I guess it's a matter of degrees. At the moment, I'm not close to the needle use yet, but probably because there may be an alternative solution. I do appreciate your input.

There never was one warning that sexual dysfunction could be an effect of the GL procedure. I'm pretty disapointed with that.

What was the HOLEP procedure that you had to go through?

You obviously did not read up on the various procedures. They can all cause sexual dysfuncion as can drugs like Tamsulosin.

I guess you did not research the procedure before you had it done.  Didn't the doctor tell you there is that chance.  Well all the procedure that cut away at the procedure can cause you somekind of sexual dysfunction.  It is a long shot but you may get it back.  I know I have hear sometimes it can take up to 2 years to get anything back.  Remember he was cutting away on the inside and there are alot of nerves in that area.  Good luck  Ken

You are correct, I didn't do my own research and just followed the urologist's direction. With a PSA of 0.2, there wasn't a need to rush the treatment.

Ken...Just a reminder.  These men are looking for help/answers.  Not a lecture every time somebody has a procedure you disagree with.

Trustme.  Not giving a lecture. I don't care what procedure you have but you need to go for a second opioion before and procedure There are side effect to ever procedure.  Most doctor will side step any function to do with sex so they can do the surgery.  This doctor did not help him at all just cause more problems.  You put your trust in a doctor with your body and it goes wrong.  That is not right.  Give me a break.  He needs to find a doctor that will help him not cause him more problem.  I wish him all the luck in the world.  Ken

      Kenneth,

I don't take any of the comment personally, although thius is as personal as it gets. I should have researched it more. I usually do, but it was presented as a simple procedure that one can recover from in a couple of weeks. It actually took me months. No mention was ever made relative to sexual funtion.

Hopefull things will improve over time.

I think that for the majority the recovery from PVP is quick. In my case it really was days. Most with a good recovery never post again and we don't know the % of ones with problems.
