Could this be prolapse?

Last week I noticed something bulging out of my vagina, and it was accompanied by sharp abdominal pain. The bulge was not very large, but I could see it with a mirror. I visited the ER, but they didn't run any exams and didn't really do anything for me other than suggest I visit my OBGYN. I did have a laparotomy last November due to a large cyst in my right tube. I am currently taking megestrol due to heavy bleeding that has lasted me over four months now. I have set up an appointment with my doctor, but it will be a couple of weeks until I see her. I had delayed a bit on setting the appointment, because for a day I didn't see the bulge, and I thought it had gone away, but it's back. I was wondering if this sounds like a prolapse, and if it is urgent. I am 21 years old, don't have children, and I am not sexually active.

Hello ... it does sound like a prolapse of the vaginal walls or womb, but then when I read you are 21 and have had no children ... I think it would be most be most unlikley, unless like myself , it is an hereditary complaint. If you are that concerned why not get an appointment with your doctor ASAP? Your doctor should be able to recognise what it is.

    Best of luck,

THANKS so much for your answer! I did try scheduling the fastest appointment, but its a fee weeks away, unless somebody cancels. Now that you mention it could be hereditary, my mother did have a prolapse a few years back.

Yes, this is especially scary for me because of my age. I really would hate to have to go through another surgery.

Yes but your Mother had a prolapse probably from giving birth vaginally and is in the right age bracket for weakening tissues. You're none of that. I have never heard of prolapse being hereditary. Just cause our Mothers prolapsed is more likely because they gave birth to us and other babies. There's a commonality of events in life rather than hereditary. Prolapse is hugely common and way more common than people realise as lots never admit to it or discuss it with others. 50% of woman who give birth will have some level of prolapse. Then around menopause with all those changes, then prolapse worsens. All this is worse if they've given birth vaginally to a baby over 9lb.

Ohhhh I just read you said you are over-weight. That contributes to all sorts of health issues. But of course I don't know how over-weight you are. Maybe begin by dealing with that and see if that helps this latest problem.

Yes, I've started eating better and walking daily to shed some weight.

You are so young and don't fit any category for prolapse. Have you been checked for fibroids before? Maybe it's one of those coming down from uterus. Are you sure your previous cyst wasn't on your ovary, rather than in tube? What you have doesn't sound like an urgent matter for an ER. But for peace of mind you should take next available Dr. appt. and also find out when your Obs/Gynae has next appt. as maybe you don't need Dr. referral as you already have a Specialist.

Yes I have been checked for fibroids, but that was last year. I had a CT scan in early June for pelvic pain, but the DR said they didn't see anything unusual. As per the cyst, when it was first diagnosed, they referred to it as a large ovarian mass, however, after the surgery my gynecologist oncologist said it was actually in my right tube so he had to take out my tube as well.

Do you think the ovary should have been removed. Not sure either just pray she is OK. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!!🙌👐🙌👐

No I don't see why it would be necessary to remove an ovary if not really justified.

So sorry for your discomfort and problems at such a young age😢. Sounds like prolapse but from what???? You haven't had children or anything. OBGYN must do a thorough examination and ultrasound for any other possibilities for this. I pray you find your answers and repair/healing!!!!

Thank you so much! The only thing I had read was that having a pelvic surgery could weaken your muscles in the area, so i thought that a long with being overweight could cause it. Thank you for your prayers! I will be visiting my OBGYN as soon as an appointment is available.
