Today started out pretty much the same as every other day with on exception and it's probably due to the rain we have had since yesterday I am at the moment miserable pain is high solid 7 been icing several times already yes I have been thru this numerous times this has been the worst by far. I see the Dr. Tuesday not expecting any miracles more then likely everything is moving along as expected. Sorry I just get pretty fed up at times.

That’s rotten have you tried alternating heat / ice  for 10 mins , I find that and massaging my knee helps me .

    Take care

I wish you could send the rain to the Midwest and we could send you the muggy 90"s. I finally had the back surgery 2 weeks ago and with my wife in acute, extended rehab it's helping

I had been so beaten up on with the horrible back pain and trying to handle her in what's appearing to be her final days. O put her in a georgous as s t living facili t y 2 days before my surgery..

2 days after she fell and put a quarter size hole in the back of her head. No more asst living, now skilled care as soon as she's released. I was/am going nuts when an old (we're in our early 80"wink found me on facebook. Her husband died suddenly from a heart attack and she was tied in with 2 others that had lost spouses, 1 by cancer and 1 by suicide. We've gotten together two e to just talk. I'm the only one with a living spouse but we know it won't be for long. The venting has been great. They listen and relate and when we can't sleep we use messenger during the middle of the night. I can break down and cry like a baby and nobody is judgemental. Its a wonderful release. Then I feel better and go out for a Sunday morning breakfast and I've had 2 kids SCREAMING since I sat down.there goes my peace.

If you were close by I would come and visit my situation stinks but in comparison its really nothing compared to what your going thru. What amazes me how come when we are young we have our aches and pains but nothing that a beer or 2 or 3 wont fix!! but as we get older it seems like our bodies just fall apart you can lead a healthy life still and then its all down hill. I do wish you the best.

Hi nwf. I'm out of pain jokes for now. :-) Had my surgery 2 weeks ago so I literally feel your pain. I feel like total crap. But did want to say my thoughts are with you and I really hope you feel a little better at least , sooner rather than later

I know you had your operation on June 18th, I had mine done on the 19th. Since you have had several operations on the same knee you would of course hurt more! Since we can’t come to you and drag our legs around together please know we are really good at giving advise simply because we have ALOT of time! We can also listen and support you with thoughts and prayers...and cuss words if needed.

That is another thing that bugs me I am on disability because of my lovely knee so I already have time on my hands in order to stay busy I have 2 hobbies one is aquariums and the other is my home stereo. So bored yes but when I want to watch a movie I can get the same effect at home drink a cold beer ( currently just drank one and ready for one more ) without having to spend money sit in a chair that is uncomfortable. Yes I am complaining I hate having this much time I have gone beyond bored.

I’m thinking of volunteer for the Red Cross. They need homebound people to help when disasters and other issues happen. It might help me and distract me. I’m looking in other areas to see what else is out there that lets me choose when I would “work”. Always thinking😬

As I have gotten older I try to refrain from the language I used years ago but in this case forget it. I was warned that after 18 surgeries with this one being the 6th revision it was going to hurt !!!! NO S-IT !!!!!!. but I was not expecting it to hurt like this. All of you that are going thru this for the first time were more then likely not prepared for what to expect following surgery. It is an eye opener!!! This being my 6th time its like comparing apples to oranges pain wise big difference. Based on my average ( I can say that due to the amount of revisions I have had ) I am at least 3-4 weeks behind from the 5th revision. By now I feel like I should be anxious to do things go for short walks getting in the car quick trips to the store and yes I do those things but I regret it everytime. I just went for a short walk if my knee was normal ( BIG F-CKING IF!!!! ) it would take less then 10 minutes if that now its about 25 minutes, I saw an older man must be in his 70's by the time I got to the end of the street he was nowhere in sight at 57 I am walking like I am in my 80's this sucks. As I walk I can feel the swelling and with it comes lots of pain this just plain stinks. The only good thing if you can call it that the amount of pain is normal considering I am being treated for an infection ( PICC lines stink!!!! ) and so far all of my bloodwork has come back great. My surgeon does not believe in narcotics and he does have a valid point however and I am trying he takes 2 tylenol and 1 aleve twice a day he says yes it still hurts ( he had his knee done on the 22nd of June ). I am currently on Dilaudid 4mg I am allowed to take 2 every 4-6 hours at first yes I was taking 6 pills a day now I am down to 3-4. I took 1 this morning and 2 couple of hours ago along with the tylenol and aleve. I have this bad feeling that when I see the Dr. no more prescription for pain I am hoping maybe he can write a script for something stronger then Tylenol and Aleve maybe Tramadol ?? I know its going to hurt just hoping to minimize how bad. All of you should be very happy that by rights this will hopefully be your one and only knee replacement trust me it does not get any easier.

Sorry you'rehaving these problems, but if it helps any, you are not alone...

Oh, and tramadol is like eating skittles...... it's a very very mild pain pill.  Dilaudid is way stronger.....

Seems odd he won’t give you opioids , I can’t take any anti inflammatory meds so would have been in trouble without endone etc , good luck , I found  Lyrica  good for  nerve pain too.

Currently I am on Dilaudid 4mg 2 every 4 to 6 hours. The Dr. does not believe in prescribing opioids lets face facts how many get addicted to pain meds? I have approx. 30 left and I am trying to cut back the past 2 days I only took 3 4mg tablets the down side the pain is just blah. Sure I can go to me Pain Dr. but that is a 50.00 copay every month being on disability I just cannot afford it. There was a time 30 yrs ago I enjoyed pain meds now I am sick of taking them. My only goal is to minimize the amount of pain without narcotics. I also believe there is no such thing as the perfect pain med either ( I wish there was ) and no matter what I take its going to hurt and like I said if there is anything I can take to help lessen the pain great. So if you or anyone else have suggestions fire away. Currently I take 2 xtra strength tylenol and one Aleve 2x a day ( it helps but barely ) ice and elevate numerous times thru out the day. Are any of the ice wraps any of you use stay cold longer?? I read the Cyro Cuff ??? it can be bought on Amazon probably botched the name?? Ice is a good thing for pain. Chico mentioned Voltarin I have a lotion called Pennsaid its a topical lotion version of Diclofenac. Really open to suggestions yes I would rather be on something stronger but the surgeon is not going to prescribe any narcotics, what gets me he had his 2nd TKR done 4 days after mine ( mine was the 18th Monday his was done on the 22nd Friday. All he takes for pain is Aleve and Tylenol 2 x a day. He admits yes he is in pain but he is one of those that does not like writing scripts for narcotics. Yes when I was released from the hospital and I was given one more when I had my first follow up. Tuesday will be the 2nd follow up and I also meet with the infection specialist. My 2 biggest concerns hopefully the recent labs still look good , no further signs of infection and I would jump for joy if they would remove the PICC line ( I hate it ).

I belong to another group whose director is an ortho surgical nurse. They recommend you take 1,000 mg of Tylenol 4 times a day up to 4000 mg. No Aleve, Advil etc as they say it just doesn't work. Also if you take any other medication with Tylenol in it you have to adjust the mg. They and others in the group swear by the Tylenol. It's nover worked for me although I've never taken it in so high a dosageHope this helps you somewhat.
