Compression socks.

This is my first post on here. Total right hip replacement 11 days ago. Recovery going Ok with the usual not sleeping etc. My consultant directs that compression socks are to be worn for 6 weeks. I am finding that towards the evening they drive me nuts and I am wondering what harm would be done by removing them for say 30 mins just to obtain such relief. Or maybe someone here has some other advice ?

    Hi,

I am 4 weeks today and haven't worn any stockings. The hospital said that NICE rules had changed and they no longer recommended wearing them so they were taken off me as I was discharged from hospital. Am on blood thinning tablets and not had a problem.

I never wore them. They are not used much in the US. I never had any problems.

i hate the compression socks with a vengeance as I was a 24/7 barefooter. when I was in the hospital I complained so much to one of the nurses she let me take one of my walks barefoot. Clearly my grumbling got back to the surgeon and he told me on the morning I was discharged that when I got home if I wanted to leave them off I could.

i have been compromising and wearing them at night in bed only but I sympathize with all others who abhor them.

I think you will be finding that more and more doctors in the UK will be discarding the compression socks orders. They have not been found to help very much and they are making life miserable to people already dealing with pain and discomfort.
