Considering HRT

Posted , 10 users are following.

Hi I am seeing my go on Monday as have had enough!  I last had a period 7 years ago (am 57) and have been suffering for the last 2 years with terrible anxiety (for no reason) , hot flushes, thinning hair and low mood.

i always said I would never take HRT but have changed my mind - I think quality of life is more important!  Would welcome comments from anyone who thinks HRT will help - thanks.

I remember my aunt saying to me when patches first came out that she applied her patch and the next day when she woke up could not find it. Later on her hubby found it stuck to his lower back. She didn't say whether it improved his mood though!

I think there are hundreds of women relaying that story. I've had patients telling me it happened to them, on a monthly basis. How many were true I don't know but the patches are much more improved now and rarely come off even in the bath and shower.

Haha - nice one!  No problem with them coming off now - could do with a patch to cure hubby's snoring though!

I started taking it in 1991. I couldn't believe I was allowed to take it for so long but I had a fantastic GP who was very pro HRT but he retired early last year and I didn't think any of the other GP's in the surgery would prescribe it which is why I decided to stop. Anyway the female GP I always see was more than happy to prescribe it.

Hi Caroline HRT is not a quick fix if it suits you no need to come off it I have many friends that are not on it and they have aged a lot faster in ways and looks -as I said before you do get side affects when coming off and the withdrawals are awful so while it works don't break it xx

Well I look young for my age anyway without hrt but I take it because I got bad hot flushes when I had the hysterectomy when I started the menopause I was on it then stopped after 12 months and I was OK but now I'm glad I'm on it
