Constant lightheadeness for 3 months since first attack which followed after bad sinus infection

Plz help!! My story goes like this.. Mid September I had a really bad sinus cold which lasted the normal 4 to 5 days. A few days after I showed up to work around 6am and felt completely normal. Around 8 am out of know where I felt a huge wave of dizzy/lightheadeness.. After a few seconds I realized what was goin on and was surprised I was still standing. Legs were super weak, vision blurry and crazy imbalanced. Somehow I finished my shift at 11 am. I didn't say anything cuz it was my first day at new job. Went to ER and was diagnosed with ear/sinus infection/Labrynthinitis. Constant lightheadeness since and constant. I received amox clav pills which worked!! Last couple days of taking it I had days of 100%. Back to working out and everything. After I ran out of those about 2 days later and started to come back and never left.. Imbalanced, like I'm on a boat type feel, foggy headed, tired.. Anyone out there know anything plz??!

Edward: Google Labyrinthitis...there's a really good UK site where they describe every symptom! Good luck to you buddy. You've got to wait it out but it DOES go away! Vestibular rehab is one of the best things i did when i had it. Hang in there! Debbie

Thanks for the reply Debbie! Did yours as well follow after real bad sinus cold? Did it hit you hard out of know where as well? How long did it take for it to go away? Thanks so much for responding..

Yes mine hit after a bad cold too. Never had spinning like some people (thank God) but was hit with the dizzies pretty bad....out of nowhere...just woke up with it one day! Everyone is different as to how long it lasts. You've had damage to your balance nerve as a result of the virus that causes Labyrinthitis. Your brain needs time to compensate for the mixed signals it is getting from the good and bad ear. That's why i recommend vestibular therapy...the exercises you do will help your brain compensate that much faster. I had it for two years the first time because i didnt know about rehab. I got hit a second time 5 years later...this bout lasted 3 months. I'm not perfect yet but it is certainly managable now.

I also never had the spinning sensation.. Like being on a boat type feel or like I've constantly had a few drinks. Or being on an elevator and the feeling when it stops on your floor.. I'm gonna look into that rehab! Thank you for some kind of direction. I don't feel alone with this anymore and it feels good thanks!

Also for some reason I noticed the other day it gets really bad when it's super cold outside. One of my jobs I work as a dockworker which can be extremely dangerous. I was tying up a cargo ship outside and remember I had to hold on to the rails near the edge. Not sure if the cold plus wearing a hard hat had anything to do with it

My ears are super sensitive to the cold as well...need to keep them covered in winter. Are you in Canada or the States? Yep...i felt constantly drunk as well...wonky as i call it. Needed anti anxiety meds cuz it made me so nervous.

The states. Seattle Washington... Did the anxiety meds help at all with the Labrynthinitis?

Yes...they calmed the vestibular system down. If you can do without them, its better though cuz they can slow down compensation. I couldnt manage without them though.
