Constant lightheadeness for 3 months since first attack which followed after bad sinus infection

Plz help!! My story goes like this.. Mid September I had a really bad sinus cold which lasted the normal 4 to 5 days. A few days after I showed up to work around 6am and felt completely normal. Around 8 am out of know where I felt a huge wave of dizzy/lightheadeness.. After a few seconds I realized what was goin on and was surprised I was still standing. Legs were super weak, vision blurry and crazy imbalanced. Somehow I finished my shift at 11 am. I didn't say anything cuz it was my first day at new job. Went to ER and was diagnosed with ear/sinus infection/Labrynthinitis. Constant lightheadeness since and constant. I received amox clav pills which worked!! Last couple days of taking it I had days of 100%. Back to working out and everything. After I ran out of those about 2 days later and started to come back and never left.. Imbalanced, like I'm on a boat type feel, foggy headed, tired.. Anyone out there know anything plz??!

My dizziness started with a nook ear and sinus infection. After months of treatment that didn't work, a cyst behind my eardrum was discovered. It was successfully removed but damage was done and I have slowly been working my way through recovery ever since. You need the right ENT and I stress the word right. Don't hesitate to switch if you don't feel good about the relationship. The wrong partnership will leave you hopeless and helpless. You can read my story if you look for cholesteotoma link. Good luck and know that we are here for you.

Hi Edward - very scarey to work on the docks with this.  Dont want to worry you but the dizziness etc can also be due to migraine.  Its called silent migraine where you get loads of weird head / ears / dizzy symptoms and then the headaches thrown in for good measure.  I started the same as you and was treated for lab but turned out it wasnt.  Ive been dizzy now for three and a half years.  Had loads of different medications, nothing worked as yet.  Not taking anything at the min just battling thru.  Had to change my job and cant go out socialising.  It took a year to get a diagnosis.  Hopefully yours will be something else easier to treat, but being dizzy is so scarey.  This then gives you anxiety and panic attacks because you dont feel safe.  Keep going with the tests, if the ENT cant help, you need a neurologist.  Good luck.

I had to take dramamine and then Valium for a while for vestibular suppression. They both shut off the part of the brain that reads signals from the inner ear and so maKe the dizziness better. The downside is that they can make you very sleepy and groggy and it can be very difficult to work or function normally.

Maybe they can decrease the dosage of the valium and see how you feel

I'm lucky in that I rarely have to resort to the valium anymore. Once or twice a month max.

Hi Mary! I was recently given valium 5mg for a flight for severe claustrophobia but also have taken dramamine while traveling because I get motion sickness. I was worried about taking both of these together. Can you tell me how it made you feel and what amount you were taking of the valium and dramamine. Thank you in advance.

I would usually start with 1 over the counter dramamine and give it a couple of hours to work. If it didn't then I would take 5mg of Valium.  I could have up to 4 Valium per day but tried never to take it more than once or twice in a day. I stopped it altogether about five months ago.
