Constant migraine

I've had a constant migraine for 6 months now although the pain level varies day to day I'm only 19 and this affects my life a lot, I've tried every triptan and non have worked nor have migraleve or propanolol, or basic pain relief such as ibuprofen codrydamol ect, I am currentally on topiramate which I seem to be fine on seeing as I have read a lot of people are not with the side effects it causes, my neurologist ruled out any brain problems or tumours ect. I am now waiting to be referred to a migraine specialist in Stoke on Trent which will be another 6 weeks just seems like I'm waiting forever and not getting much answers or help from anyone, anyone suggest anything because at the moment I'm willing to try anything in the mean time just to have a little bit of my life back....

Not to be negative but I have pretty much given up on a "cure" for these.  I have literally spent hours and hours researching stuff, spent hundreds of dollars on doctors, neurologists, ER visits, drugs, Cefaly, botox, acupuncture, massages - I am just resigned now to trying to live with them and thankful for the occasional day where I dont have one!

I know it can be hard but there must be a solution out there for migraines. I think they should be doing more research and things on migraines to help others like us who are in constant pain with it because I certainly don't think I can deal with a year of this it's ruining my life ambitions sad but we will get there somehow x

Hi, Kate. Based on your age, I'm wondering if hormone fluctuations could be a cause? Check with your gyn about adding bioidentical progesterone. Also, diet is key. Avoid any migraine triggers and add magnesium supplements (glycinate form). I added meditation and stress relieving activities such as exercise, walking. Take care and hang in there. You will get past this. Pattie

Hi Patricia, I have seen a gynaecologist about other issues but it was mentioned about my headaches but because I'm on the injection they said they can't check my hormone levels as they'll be different or something I can't quite remember why my memory isn't very good haha but as for the migraine triggers I don't really have any apart from the fact my migraine is constant when it gets worse there's no patter in relation to it I've wrote down everything I've eaten and drunk and the

weather to as if it's sunny that can sometimes trigger them but not for me. Thank you for your advice and support its comforting to know I'm not alone smile

My neurologist said def my headaches were so bad due in large part to lack of estrogen- he said he sees that all the time when women hit menopause age. But i cant take any replacement estrogen therapy having had breast cancer 15 yrs ago.  sad    I go today for my round of Botox to help me, doesnt do much really but does make them less severe so I dont have to haunt the ER anymore....

Wild.......thats good info. at least they say its something, and I asked my doctor to test my levels a few times and he wont because he said they fluctuate everyday, so....ya....so if thats what your doc it saying, there must be light at the end of this tunnel ! but them u think what about men ? what does your doc say to do and other drug ? also, I dont think i even started menopause, I'm 51

I think you should have your levels tested...they can get a ballpark on them...you may be entering pre menopause and the levels are dropping some.  They say women are more prone to migraines than men.sad

from hormonal fluctuations etc.  I have tried the preventatives and the side effects were that I couldnt get out of bed (so what good is that to lay around all day in a fog and half asleep?), mine are triggered by air pollution and living in smoggy So Calif we have "smog alerts" all the time, those days I am suffering.  I am thinking about relocating, when I lived by the beach a few yrs ago I had very few headaches!  Hope you are doing ok today.  smile

If the migraine is above one eye and always occurs you may want to talk to your doctor about naproxen.

Thanks but it isn't it's mainly on the top, side or back the weirdest thing is it moves around like one Minuit the pain mostly would be on the side and then when I wake up its at the back told my neurologist and he said its normal unfortunately I can't take naproxen as I'm allergic to it but doubt it would help as no other tablets have helped hoping to get some answers at the migraine clinic in Stoke on Trent smile

Might be something else rather than the migraine then. Seems strange to get worse at night.

That's what I thought but it's stayed the same for 6 months up until now I think it may be stress as I have a lot of college work to finish but it's still the same type of pain as a migraine if that makes sense

If its worse after lying down, having your intercranial pressure checked is important. Also Do you think you could be grinding your teeth? Does your tm joint ever pop out? Tmj problems cause tension headaches and even migraines. If your headache is both sides of your head it means you could probably rule out a neuralgia.

It sometimes can be both sides it varies but most of the time it's one side and it will move occasional saying that about the teeth grinding I don't think I do as I can't sleep with my mouth closed I have a thing about suffocating in my sleep sounds silly but you know so I sleep with it open but I will be sure to make a dentist appointment because they can check if I have been grinding my teeth. Also on the weekend I had a deep tissue massage to see if it could help mainly on my neck and shoulders area and head to see if it could ease some pain but unfortunately it did not it hurt more than it was supposed to be relaxing me lol
