Constant nausea for months!!!

Hi everyone I am new here 😃

My stomach problems started many years ago but only became a problem a few month ago. I started getting bad and constant nausea and bad bloating/gas - I would also burping up food that I had eaten. I went to the doctor about this and was prescribed Somax (Acid Tablets) I was told that I have acid Refux and possible gastritis. I took these tablets for months but it was not working at all! I should say that I suffer from severe anxiety issues. My anxiety was becoming really bad because I thought I might have stomach cancer. I go back to the doctor to tell her I am not feeling any better and that I would like to see a Gastroenterologist to get an endoscopy done - Before my procedure the specialist looked at my previous blood test and said they were perfect and I could have IBS. Being told I have IBS I changed my whole diet I cut out all dairy and cut back on gluten, Nothing was changing! I wasn't feeling any better. The day came to get my endoscopy - After my procedure my specialist said my stomach looked normal and there was only minimal Refulx. He took biopsies from my stomach I waited a few days and went back to the doctor for the biopsy results and she said I have mild gastritis in my stomach and mild inflammation in my duodenum (Small intestine) That was great! I was relieved that it was nothing worst, My doctor prescribed another acid tablet to me (Esomeprazole Apotex) 40mg - I have been on them for nearly 2 weeks and my nausea isn't any better! I got another set of blood tests done afew days ago to check EVERYTHING! my liver, Pancreas, Kidney, blood Count etc....ALL was normal except my iron levels are incredibly low because I am a vegetarian. I am going to be getting a scan done on my abdomen and checking all the organs around there. I am also getting a colonoscopy within the next 2 weeks. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing my nausea !!?? Everything I have been tested for is normal. My doctor is running out of ideas and tests to do.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Sorry for the long story!! Thanks

    hi Simmone

gastritis is a terrible thing, I was told in January after a scope that I have it. my stomach burned for months and I had terrible daily nausea. doctor put me on 80 mg ezomeprasol a day. the burning has reduced greatly and the nausea isnt as severe. unfortunately I have gone on to suffer terrible bowel related issues, lots of low back and leg pain, I feel there may be a link to the gastritis

so I think when gastritis comes it brings a lot of long lasting problems, you are lucky to be able to get a colonoscopy while covid is around, and its good that your bloods are good , I wud say stick with the ppi for another while, let us know how you colonoscopy goes. bland diet is best, chicken or beef home made broth.

Thankyou for your response I really appreciate it!! It's honestly a nightmare. So you had daily nausea? From gastritis?

I am on 40mg of esomeprazole but it's not helping after 2 weeks. You find 80mg has helped you quite abit?

I'm sorry to hear about what your going through with it. I hope you feel better soon. Thankyou so much! I'll keep you posted 😁

Unfortunately I'm a vegetarian so I wont eat chicken/beef broth. I'll have to find another substitute.

yes Simmone, daily nausea was horrendous, lost a good bit of weight, only very gradually starting to pick up, it takes a long time, dont eat anything acidic or spicy, theres a drink you can get in chemist called ensure plus it will help replace some vitamins a nd minerals you may not be getting if you dont feel like eating. wish you good health.

      Thanks Kate,

How long did it take until the tablets started to work for you? Did you start right on 80mg?

my stomach started to burn last August I stayed on 80mg a day until it started to ease off in March so it took 7 months, now I reduced it to 40mg a day, I still get bouts of nausea but the burning is so much better, just wish I cud get my bowel sorted now, it's so painful daily , 4 colonoscopy cancelled because of covid. hope you will come back and let us know how your one goes. all I can say is be patient you will feel better soon.

      hi Simmone

Kate are you still on the road to recovery? Has the nausea completely left you?

      hi Lacole

I was do very well for about 3 months so slowly reduced my ppi from 80mg per day to 20mg. unfortunately the nausea is returning again and intermittent stomach pain. I don't want to be on high dose of ppi as I am 5 years taking it .
