Constant, odd , 'cold' feeling in throat and roof of mouth...anyone else have this with reflux?

Hi all
For a long time now I have been experiencing the oddest sensation and I am not sure if it is to do with acid reflux. I have a very cold, almost 'minty' sensation in my mouth all the time. it feels like the sensation you have when you breath in after cleaning your teeth, or after sucking a strong mint. My throat and roof of mouth feels cold - not irritated - just cold and tingly.
I have had problems with reflux in the past and have been on proton pump inhibitors. I am not on a prescription at the moment. i have had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with acute gastritis about ten years ago. I often get heartburn and indigestion.
I have mentioned this top my GP who looks at me like I am mad and says he has never heard of it.
However, I am not imagining it, and wondered if this odd symptom was shared by anyone else with reflux.
I am a lady of a 'certain age' .........and I have read on the net that this odd sensory change could have something to do with hormonal changes at menopause. Just trying to rule everything out, so would be grateful for any input.
Thanks

Hi, Yes I was just looking this up as well.
August, Last year I had 4 months of intensive coughing. I was diagnosed with Chlamydia Pneumonia. Whenever I get the slightest bit sick it comes back. I find that it is also associated with extra/ unwated fluid/ phlem in the nasal area that cant be cleared easily.
Recently that chilling feeling/ cool mint/ enhaling crisp air has returned and with covid19 I am concerned as well.

Hey guys! After following this thred for like 7 years... I have come to the conclusion like a few others that this is silent acid reflux. At first I disagreed because I never had typical symptoms. But it's the only thing that makes sense for this odd cool sensation. Check it out!

Hi Lesley,
I experienced the same a couple of years back & posted here.
It literally appeared one day out of the blue lasted around 3 months maybe, but it was awful! It felt like it ruled my life... Was there 24/7 except when i ate or drank, however chewing gum never really helped.
I was obsessed & googled everything, GERD was the closed I came to an answer, but not convinced this was really it.
I genuinely thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with it... & then it disappeared!
I cant say when any more, it just stopped & I can no more attribute its demise to any one thing, just as i cannot say what started it in the first place.
I just hope you all get over it as I did & it NEVER comes back.
I have been Free of it for well over a couple of years now (Fingers doubly crossed).

Hi All,
I have exactly the same as you, a cold feeling in mouth, into throat and chest, just like I have had toothpaste in my mouth for too long or have swallowed vicks, and it has got worse over past few weeks. I Have had suspected coronavirus, so no idea if related to that or if it is playing up my acid ( i take omeprazole for acid) because of using vicks/olbas oil etc (which i usually avoid) . I have no taste or smell also because of the virus. I think this virus knocks the immune system about though, as my balance has been playing up too, and previously had labyrinthitis ( vertigo like virus), calling doctor Monday so shall see what he says 🤷

Hi Kimberly
some days are worse than others but still have it. The fact that this thread is suddenly very busy makes me think it could be another Covid related problem as I have another friend recovering from it and she has it too. I have taken a course of niastin as the doctor thought it might be oral thrush, then a course of penecillin, shall be calling doctor again today. All just very weird

drink plenty of water and ease off of wheat products for a bit. Take note of what you eat and see if they are triggers which make it worse

Hello,
2 months of this minty nightmare!
tried nasal sea saltwater spray - nothing
Sent pictures to doctor gave me antibiotics .. didn’t work, tried Nistatine for 10 days, didn’t work
Borax glycerin multiple times per day works for a few minutes then comes back.
Symptoms:
Dry throat sensation (even though I have saliva in my mouth)
Cold sensation moving in mouth throughout the day on the hard and soft palate.
In the morning after waking up it is gone but gradually intensifies during the day peaking in the evening and decreasing after.
It goes away while eating and 20 min after finishing a meal it comes back.
Drinking water is not solving this.
Will consult a gastroenterologist and try to get some blood work.

yes i can understand that for sure! mine is calming slowly but i recognized it was my reflux and COVID causes alot of anxiety in person right now and it affects the body in many ways. maybe try a diet for while you wait for your appointment. What worked for me was having cabbage juice daily and removing wheat from my diet as i found that made the cooling worse. as time went by it got better and now i don't have it much.

my friend , i have the same problem ..i have gone for a dental check up first , my teeth seems to be alright ... then went to an EnT specialist he said its anixety and stress that might be causing this..i have no gerd ...i would suggest if u have any anixety issues try doing some meditation , eat healthy food ..stay relaxed as much a s possible ..n remember thinking constantly about it also is a form of stress .. think less .hopefully it should go .Goodluck
