Constant, odd , 'cold' feeling in throat and roof of mouth...anyone else have this with reflux?

Hi all
For a long time now I have been experiencing the oddest sensation and I am not sure if it is to do with acid reflux. I have a very cold, almost 'minty' sensation in my mouth all the time. it feels like the sensation you have when you breath in after cleaning your teeth, or after sucking a strong mint. My throat and roof of mouth feels cold - not irritated - just cold and tingly.
I have had problems with reflux in the past and have been on proton pump inhibitors. I am not on a prescription at the moment. i have had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with acute gastritis about ten years ago. I often get heartburn and indigestion.
I have mentioned this top my GP who looks at me like I am mad and says he has never heard of it.
However, I am not imagining it, and wondered if this odd symptom was shared by anyone else with reflux.
I am a lady of a 'certain age' .........and I have read on the net that this odd sensory change could have something to do with hormonal changes at menopause. Just trying to rule everything out, so would be grateful for any input.
Thanks

I just started getting this. but it comes and goes in waves. more in the evening ,too. T its strongest, it makes my tongue and throat almost buzz, or tingle. but always a minty cold inhale and exhale for a few seconds then it goes away , leaving me a little out of sorts. I have an enlarged spleen. and currently undiagnosed heart issues. I take propranolol and I am a 39 tr old male.
now, I have read all these responses and it blows my mind. i have eaten a good bit of fresh blueberries lately, and prebiotic yogurt, and drinks, much like the other ppl commenting on this thread. i also am on a proton pump inhibitor, with an endoscopy scheduled next Tuesday. my spleen has been enlarged for at least 4 months maybe longer. my doctor says due to epstein barr virus. I have constant chest pain and heart arrhythmia and we don't know why yet, but i take propranolol for that. theese temporary minty throated buzzy feeling waves are the latest developments in my health saga. everything started going haywire in February of this year. I think it should be mentioned that I also have rhabdomyolysis, and arthritis in my spine. any input would be appreciated greatly

maybe, just maybe, stop eating the blueberry for a week and obeserve if the sensation is reducing.
Then try to wash the blueberries throughly.
I am having similar issue when eating dried Raisin.
after washing the raisin before consumption, the chill sensation at the end of my esophagus reduce.
could not say it has disappeared because i just found it out today.
but I am sure raisin is the culprit for me.

Hello
I have exactly the same symptoms plus my tongue is tingling too.
I have just come off of Naproxen, a strong anti inflammitory for a knee issue.
I was on them for 7 weeks and my GP said that is too long, as they burn your stomach.
I am assuming this is why I'm getting this odd sensation.
I hope it disappears soon. It's very annoying.
I was taking Lansoprazole after about 5 weeks but was starting to feel nauseous.
Maybe they will help get rid of this sensation.

my 13 yo daughter is experiencing breathing in cold air down her throat and nasal passage when she is going to sleep. Her dr put her on nasal spray for hayfever which worked for a week but it has returned. A mystery.

i have the same sensation in my mouth (lips, tongue and roof of mouth affected) it started primarily on the left side and has been spreading throughout my entire mouthturns out i have a vestibulae schwanoma a benign brain tumor that primarily affects the nerves of my inner ear. Other symptoms included: ear fullness, hearing deficiency in left ear and vertigo. i recommend those with similar symptoms to see out the help of an ENT specialist and demand an MRI which confirmed my diagnosis. Prior to my MRI they were treating me for vertigo with meclazine, patches, antihistamines and even placing tubes in my ear to alleviate the sensation of fullness. Obviously none of these "treatments" worked because they were chasing the wrong diagnosis. Unfortunately the only way to treat my condition is a very invasive surgery which i won't have until 21

Dear All and @Lesley998,
I just got this problem lately too.
I thought I am having COVID but fortunely I am not.
My doctor prescibed me with Omerprazole 20mg as well but this is not the solution to my problem in my opinion.
I started investigating on my food intake and found out that when I eat Raisin from a particular brand,
I am getting the mint sensation at the end of my esophagus.
Then I washed my raisins before eating and the mint sensation DISAPPEAR.
It seems like there is a chemical most likely the preservative used.
when I soaked and rub the raisin, the water turns oily.
I buy this Raisin from 7-11 and its is an exclusive product for7-11.
I am 90% sure that this is the source of the minty sensations for me aside from other possibilities as I just moved to Thailand in Nov 2020
I hope you all can see the image. I will find extra information on the ingredients and chemical used in this product.

I’ve had sinus problems for a while now. I started to loose my sense of smell about 4 years ago. About March time 2020 I started to feel a weird sensation at the back of my throat. It feels like breathing in cold air every time I inhale. ‘Like having a mint down your throat then breathing in cold air. The doctor thought it was an allergy so he prescribed me antihistamines.. nothing worked after being on them for a month. Then the doctor thought it was acid reflux; I was on another prescription to get rid of excessive acid ‘which I did not have, only a bit of phlegm.. for 2 months and they did not work.
Then it gets worse.. I started trying to cut out foods just incase of an allergy or irritation to cause acid reflux, (by this point my anxiety was so bad I couldn’t swallow my food and I started loosing weight and had to get referred by a doctor to get myself tested). I gained a panic disorder, scared to eat just incase my throat clogged up.
I’ve had: Endoscopy’s, CT scans, MRI test, blood tests, ENT tests.. anxiety medication, Barium Swallow, x-rays etc.. you name it, I’ve had it.
But all came out as clear.. but I still have this feeling in my throat thats effecting my life and it’s causing me to have anxiety issues, which inflames up my throat and makes it worse (it started with a physical problem not anxiety).
Everything from my throat to stomach was ‘clear’ but obviously not.
My sinuses have left me with a quarter sense of smell left and constant dizziness, a very bad blocked nose (a lot of muscus even when blowing nose).
This cold sensation in my throat and sometimes on the roof of my mouth is constantly there and its effecting my way of life as it’s uncomfortable feeling in everything I do.
My sinuses could be blocking my airways so I have to breathe out of my mouth a lot causing strain on my throat?
Or it could be a sinus infection like a fungal or bacterial that has be produced from my blocked sinuses and is now leaking down my throat, causing this constant cold feeling.
Or could it be a Polyps? Fungi has been trapped there since March from the collective dust particles I was around at work and now it’s caused a fungal infection because of a blockage?
What should I do? What is it? How can I treat it without the doctors thinking I’m going crazy with my weird symptoms.
Please help me.. the doctors aren’t bothering and I’m really desperate.
Thankyou

Try gaviscon and if that helps you might have silent reflux. I have had this sensation on and off for years with no gerd at all. As soon as I take gaviscon (3 tablets) I get immediate relief. The sensation happens when pepsin comes up through the stomach and into the throat. Gavison creates a barrier at the top of your stomach and stops the pepsin from entering your throat.

I have LPR, VCD, ILS, and a host of other issues and symptoms. I have had issues in the past with a cold sensation on the right side of my throat, almost as if I swallowed a cold mint. I also have on and off issues with my soft palate/pharyngeal arch. I get the sensation that 100 thumb tacks are pricking me and setting off my cough reflex, which in turn exacerbates the cough and makes the cycle worse. I'm attributing this to my LPR and the fact that it takes quite a long time to fully heal.

omg! so i just started having the same symptom, cold feeling like vicks or a mint in my esophagus/ maybe lung area/ throat. i was sleeping with a fan on for the past 7 months and maybe think thats the issue. Making a doctors appt tomorrow. This is the weirdest feeling and I also have asthma and this is the exact feeling i would get after exercise. But normally it would disappear after a few minutes. But I got this current cold feeling from just one random night doing nothing, no exercise.
I will keep you guys posted on what my doctors find out if they know anything because if you are also having this symptom, just like me i have been googling this for days and just want a simple answer.
