constant pain under the ribs (on the right side ..in the back)

I am experiencing this pain under my ribs, on the right side and more towards my back than in the front..for about three months now and I have to take Ibuprofen almost every day

This pain is just annoying as its not as bad to prevent me from moving or do stuff, but it is very upsetting to have to endure it every day.

I am 29 years old (woman).

I went to the doctor first in February when he tested my blood. The result came back normal (he said he tested for infections). After that I went again and he gave me an X-ray in my abdominal area..well that one came back normal too.

Now, last week (30th of May) he said he would send me through the post a form or something like that.. to go with it and have an ultrasound. I waited now a week and I cant wait to receive it already as I want to see if they will see something at the Echo scan.

I would have wanted the ultrasound taken first if you ask me..as I suspect it might be something like a kidney stone..or something like that..?

I only have this pain in my back, somewhere under my ribs (and on the right side), only when I stand.

I feel better when sitting down or lying. I am thankful for that at least..I suppose it could be worse ..so I get some break from this.

The doctor as I see him is clueless and he said that if we don't find anything after all these tests..he might just blame it on a muscle that was pulled or something..

I mean..this is ridiculous as basically it would be just a guess..even leaving it like that..

what if in time it affects me more with some other consequences?

I am very concerned already and tired with this pain.

Please I would like to know your opinions about this.

I must add that I have no other symptoms..no swellings or other problems. Just this pain every day and is constant and annoying and I just want to know what it is already to treat it and get over with my life.

You may have a twisted rib. Mine did not show up in the X-ray. Found a physical therapist who found it and had to rotate back in place. I passed out on street Bc was shallow breathing prob Bc makes it hurt less.

Sounds exactly how mine started 8 years ago. I've only been diagnosed last year because I was sent to a gastrointestinal doctor who performed an endoscopy and found the pancreatitis. Best of luck to you.

I had the exact same problems as you for 3 days and the pain got worse while standing. No or little pain while lying down or sitting. I tried Aleve and Ibeprofien but did not help. So I decided it was digestive issue. I brewed myself some Asian Dieters tea and got total relief in 8 hours. It's available in most upscale grocery stores and definitely in all Asian grocery stores. Very effective. Be close to a restroom 6 hours after you drink the tea.

    Cheers!

    Your story is my story.

For about 6 months, I've been in pain off and on (more on than off) on my right side, under my ribs which pushes towards my back and at times down towards my pelvic area.

I have had ultrasounds, CT scans, blood work, you name it. All clean results. I too was put on medication after being told it's "a pulled muscle" because doctor didn't know what else to do. That did not help.

I now have to wait until December (its only March) before I can get in to see a Urologist. When I was 14 I had major surgery on my kidney / uritor and I'm now 33 and concerned there could be a problem.

    Did you ever get answers?

Have you tried trigger point massage? You symptoms sound like those when the psoas muscle is triggered. Hope you give this type of massage a try.

I have been experiencing this on and off for months. I am now in bed with the worst pain yet.

I believe after tests coming up negative as well , that the pain is radiating from my thoracic spine . Probably T11 or T 12.

I am seeing a Chiropractet tomorrow.

I may ask for MRI and Physicsl Therapy.

I am 80% certain that it is a spinal issue!

Have you been checked for gall stone? These can cause this type of pain. It will get worse over time causing nausea, possible vomiting (when passing a stone)

Severe pain in abdomen esp after eating or drinking. Pain is generally under sternum just to the right side just behind and under ribs. The pain can and will move around the stomach. The pain can and will get severe when passing stone or bike duct gets blocked from stone or pollups.

Hello. I know this discussion is a few years old, but I was wondering if you ever found an answer? I am experiencing something very similar to what you were going through and I'm pretty desperate. Thanks!

Look into Quadratus Lumborum-very deep muscle. I have done stretching,Ibuprofen in the mornings and it it starting to help. Work on strengthing core-abs. Not with situps and crunches but look into exercises that are more yoga type.

I am a 41 y.o. male, and I have had constant under-rib pain for more than a year and a half. It feels like a deep-tissue pain, it is not always in the same spot: sometimes it's closer to the location of my gallbladder, sometimes it moves to the lower right along the edge of my rib cage. Sometimes I can feel it in my back.

Over the course 1.5 years I had blood work done several times, I had abdominal ultrasound, abdominal CT with and without contrast, and colonoscopy done. All tests come back clear. My Gastroenterologist and GP are at loss and do not know what may be causing this. The gastroenterologist thinks this might be accumulation of gas at the bend of my colon, but I do not feel particularly gassy. Sometimes this pain feels like an inflated ball, sometimes as a burning sensation. It seems to go away or become unnoticable when I ride my bike or exercise. It also subsides when I lay down. I tried various probiotics, curcumine, milk thistle to no avail. If anyone gets to the bottom of this, I would be happy to learn the diagnosis and possible remedy.
