constant pain under the ribs (on the right side ..in the back)

I am experiencing this pain under my ribs, on the right side and more towards my back than in the front..for about three months now and I have to take Ibuprofen almost every day
This pain is just annoying as its not as bad to prevent me from moving or do stuff, but it is very upsetting to have to endure it every day.
I am 29 years old (woman).
I went to the doctor first in February when he tested my blood. The result came back normal (he said he tested for infections). After that I went again and he gave me an X-ray in my abdominal area..well that one came back normal too.
Now, last week (30th of May) he said he would send me through the post a form or something like that.. to go with it and have an ultrasound. I waited now a week and I cant wait to receive it already as I want to see if they will see something at the Echo scan.
I would have wanted the ultrasound taken first if you ask me..as I suspect it might be something like a kidney stone..or something like that..?
I only have this pain in my back, somewhere under my ribs (and on the right side), only when I stand.
I feel better when sitting down or lying. I am thankful for that at least..I suppose it could be worse ..so I get some break from this.
The doctor as I see him is clueless and he said that if we don't find anything after all these tests..he might just blame it on a muscle that was pulled or something..
I mean..this is ridiculous as basically it would be just a guess..even leaving it like that..
what if in time it affects me more with some other consequences?
I am very concerned already and tired with this pain.
Please I would like to know your opinions about this.
I must add that I have no other symptoms..no swellings or other problems. Just this pain every day and is constant and annoying and I just want to know what it is already to treat it and get over with my life.

I'm suffering from EXACTLY the same symptoms, reading how explained your case 10 months ago was like you were talking about me !
I'm 31 and been having this pain since the age of 29.
First it started out only when traveling and doing a lot of sightseeing and of course made my vacations so miserable as I had to either sit or lay dawn. The pain is like electric shocks in the back below the right ribs as well. Now the psin has really increased and even when I'm not traveling.
The Doctor told me I don't need any further tests or x-rays and that that would be a waste of time and money.
He said that there are small nerves between the ribs, maybe they are causing the pain. I asked why and he said the reason is not known!!!
So for me, I will consult with a neurologist to check that. I would advise you to do the same.
Note: I'm an athlete and I run around 80 Kms per week plus I swim and it never hurts me while doing sports.
Maybe it's related to the posture. But I will go to the neurologist and see about that as well.
Good luck to you with your pain, hope we will all get to know the reason to be able to cure it accordingly.

I've been reading all these posts just blown away. Anyway, hopefully, I can help. I have had this same pain you are experiencing for two years. I have had numerous tests. I don't want to waste your time but get to the point. I'm a nursing student, I'm 42 years old and a long distance runner. I eat well, not overweight at all and have had a multitube of health issues in the last two years that are getting resolved with determination and just plain telling my doctors what there going to do then them blowing me off. I've literally been told by doctors, I don't fit the description of a patient with problem and I have anixiety. Well, I proved them wrong. I've had to demand MRI and find doctors who will work with me rather than against me. It's my health and I know my body better than they do. Doctors have been wrong numerous of times. As far as my right side pain, I've had ct scans MRI's, ultra sounds, extensive blood work and a Hida Scan, colonoscopies, and endoscopies. I will tell you, I have a wonderful Gastrologoist. He at one point did think I had aniexty too, but after I fractured my Left femoral neck and just had surgery for my right hip of a superior labral severe labral tear, reacttached with anchors and a femoral cam impignment (osteoplasty) 9 weeks ago, I'm doing better, however, it took me three orthopedic doctors until I found the right one who actually did his job and cared. My gastro was relieved because we just could not find any findings on my right side. The first three weeks after surgery my right side pain had subsided mostly because I wasn't eating due to the pain meds making me sick. However, once I started eating and getting back on a normal routine, guess what.....it's all back.....pain under right rib, soreness, chronic shoulder pain and massive tenderness in my back and attackes at anytime. It's chronic. I went back to my gastro, he didn't order my hida scan, my GP did, so after reviewing it, he told me my infraction rate was way to high 89%, he said normal is 40-60 or 70%. So, he told me I need to see a surgeon and at this point my gallbladder should come out. He also believes I have Billiary and Gallbladder Dysenskia. It's a recent discovering and many patients have been suffering just as I have. Patients have no stones but all the symtoms as if they do. Billiary Dysenskia is the gallbladder basicly malfunctioning and dumping bile, too much bile. For me this has caused inflammation in my colon over the years. The downfall is not all gastro surgeons believe in Billiary dysenskia. My gastro and the surgeon are firm believers and have seen about 90% of there patients who's gallbladder removed no longer suffer from symptoms and have made full recoveries. It's my understanding that leaving the gallbladder in with the sypmtoms leads to further complications with other organs, I know first hand for me, I now have protistis in my colon and inflammation. My surgery is schdeuled May 6th 2015 and my surgeon is also doing exploratory surgery to makesure my other organs have not been affected or have other complications. Sometimes scans and tests do not pick up or show up, so things get missed. Point made, in Janurary I had an arthrogram in my hip joint that revealed a minor labral tear, however, once my surgeon inserted the camera to do a scope, he was absoluately shocked my labrum was off my bone and hanging and ripped pretty severely, a 2 hour surgery turned into 5 hours, not what any of us expected.
All I can say is be proactive, persistant and demand tests, if your doctor won't work with you, go find another who will. I wish you the best of luck. If I can help in anyway, please let me know.

My suggestion would be if your doctor isn't willing to get to the bottom of it, then I would get a second opinion. I've had right side pain under ribs, back, severe bloating, burning and a lot of pressure feels like in my rib cage and lower lung, with some pretty severe attacks and my right shoulder always aches. I've had every test you could think of, my hida scan came back with an 89% infraction meaning my galbladder is malfunctioning, I do not have stones but have all the sypmtoms of a patient who would, it's calked "biliary dyskensia " so my Gastrologist refered me to a surgeon and my gallbladder is coming out may 6th. My symptoms started 10 years ago very vague come and go never really thought about it until 1 1/2 ago the pain became chronic so my doctors said it has to go! I'm glad! I'M a runner, eat healthy not over weight at all very healthy no stones, I do have a family history of gallstones on my mother side, so it can be genetic. My doctors also all three of them told me if your hida scan comes back over 70% that's not normal even though the reports say normal it's not, it means the gallbladder is dumping bile when ever and a lot of it at once. Something to look into! I wish you the best of luck!
