Constant right flank pain! Duplex Kidney diagnosed 20 years ago. Anyone similar please?

Posted , 8 users are following.

20 years ago I was diagnosed after CT scan with a duplex kidney and squashed tube on right side. Apart from having a couple of infections over the years, its been fine. For the last 9 years I have had pain in back and front on and off. 7 years ago had liver, gallbladder, pancreas and kidney checked, all clear. Usually pain will last a few days then go. But I've now had pain that's lasted since last October. Bloods and ultrasound scan came back normal. But Dr did urine sample on Friday showing signs of infection so I'm now on antibiotics. Depending on results she may send me to a urologist. Has anyone had similar experience? I'm worried my kidney is getting damaged from all the infections! Would this have shown up in my bloods? Just sick of being in pain. I already suffer from anxiety and depression and this is really getting me down. Any reassurance would be appreciated please. Thank you 😊

PAIN was OFF The Charts - NonSTOP Day and Night. Would Wish this on my Worst Enemy.

Only way to Diagnose is an IVP With Position Change

its a Series of XRays and Dye injected to the Arm which Shows the Kidneys Movement during Position Changes (The Difference Between Laying Flat - Standing Up and AFTER Emptying The Bladder *this last one proved mine dropped onto my Right Hip and the Ureter was Kinked and Stretched) ... Most Dr's do not understand the Condition and Radiologists are Clueless when it comes to Reading The Scans-Reporting Correct Findings. So be prepared to Get Copies of the Scan And Report as soon as it becomes available. I will Gladly be an available resource if you need anything πŸ˜‰

Thanks hun, my ureter has already got lots of kinks in it as diagnosed when I had CT scan with dye 20 years ago. Apart from the odd infection never had any other problems until 9 years ago when I started with the pain on and off! Don't have any other symptoms either. Thanks for your reply xx

I was on Cipro for my constant infections (6 years straight of that strong antibiotic is rough on a girl) ...

This also causes soo many additional Conditions when left untreated

      Higher Blood Pressure -

Adrenal Gland Function is Sent into Overdrive leaving you with a Constant Adrenaline Rush (very unhealthy) -

      Brain Fog -

I had Severe Skin Psoriasis -

Spinal Scoliosis (kidney pulling at the top and pushing on the bottom of my spine made me an S Shape)

Nerve Damage **The Worst part of Recovering is when you live thru the pain when it's Damaging and then Suffer with the Repair Process of Nasty Lil Nerves! 😲

Urinary Urgency & A strange electrical pain after emptying the bladder?

... and there is about a dozen more that were never connected as a Kidney Related Ailment

All of which Cleared Up After Surgery πŸ˜‚

Here's a Lil Test ... Can You tolerate wearing a thin belt around your waist (above the Hips and Below the Ribs) during a Normal Day?

Also if you are of age πŸ˜‰ have you noticed a difference when you consume alcohol?

Invest in an Abdominal Brace and lay on it, position yourself perfectly Flat without a pillow under your head, bend your knees and lift your hips then return to the Flat position... wrap the brace (Snug not too tight) and see if that helps relieve some of the Dragging pain. *I Lived in mine for the last 8 months and Impressed my Surgeon since he suggests them to his Pre-Op patients 😁

Hi, I don't really wear belts but can get pressure off the underwire of my bra.

Alcohol increases the pain the next day.

I've never heard of an abdominal brace. Maybe something I can look into.

I have alot of muscular problems in my back, this was why I was wondering if it was that too.

      Thanks for your reply 😊

Yup I'm Confident you have Nephroptosis!

When my husband told him "She's No Fun Anymore ... we would go dancing and have a few drinks and now she can have 1/2 of 1 drink and we have to go home because she's sick"

The Specialist (in Austin Texas) said "YES! That is the Strangest Symptom of the Condition!? Every Single Patient I've treated for this has said the Same Thing!??" πŸ˜‚ Which I was Soo Happy that I had Confirmation that I wasn't Voluntarily No FUN! πŸ˜‰

      Are you in the UK?

Yes! I Forgot about the Satan Underwire Pain!! That was the beginning of the Nerve Damage ... The Right Lower Ribs will begin to Curve Under like they want to "Cup the Kidney" all of this will leave you with an Excruciating Spine On Fire and Scoliosis. The Muscles on each side of the spine are over compensating for the new Posture (eventually you'll curve to the right when you stand)

I purchased EVERY Bra On the Market! (And worst part is, I Had Implants Surgery in 2000 so I thought they were the problem and I Did this to Myself πŸ˜• ...)

The Sooner you can Stop the Damage the Easier Recovery will be. All will repair itself in time but it's painful πŸ˜‰

Amanda.....I'd kiss you if I could!!!. Almost a year ago I started to have this dull ache in my side. It was heavy and burning like a runners cramp, but not unbearable. Months later, this constant pain began to have occasional bouts of gut wrenching, horrible crippling cramping. It would happen without explanation and it has been tormenting my life every day since. I have been to the Emergency room and my primary doctor many times and because my labs and CT came back clear, each time they insist it is muscle and that at this point I just need to go to "pain management". I have seeked chiropractic care, massage, and acupuncture. I have spent thousands of dollars on this and wanted to go insane every time I heard "muscle related" and "pain management" because I knew deep down this was something in my organs. I came across your post two weeks ago and when I looked up floating kidney it described my symtoms to a "T". I asked my doctor to test for it and she said "its a controversial condition and I won't order tests for it", therefore I made an appt with the urologist without a referral. I went there today and was so hopeful and he walked in and spent two minutes discussing how my lab and ct was fine and said "it's a muscle injury and your brain keeps remembering it and thats why it won't go away". I asked him if he heard of floating kidney and he said "no, your kidneys don't move". I explained what I read and he said "the odds are 1 in a trillion, you don't have it". At this point I broke down in tears and said I was tired of my pain being written off, I can't play with my kids, I can't exercise, I can't sleep, I can't live. He said he would order an ultrasound to "appease me". I just got the report and the findings state "a SIGNIFICANT amount of movement of the kidney is reported with patient movement". I wanted to cry when I read it. I wasn't crazy!! It it wasn't for your post, I never would have known what to be tested for and I'm so thankful for finding you.

Now I need more help....obviously I won't use this urologist any further. I need someone that believes in floating kidney and has treated it. I need some doctor recommendations. I'm in California. Can you help put me in touch with your doctor so I can get a referal for locally, or even go to him if needed? I just want my life back!!

Hi. I am sorry I have never heard of what you have. Pain sucks though I do know that. I know there are tests they do when doing blood work and urinalysis that tell if your kidneys have been damaged. Sometimes I feel docs don't pay attention to it or at least mine don't even though a few things are higher or lower then in normal range and they say I am fine...anyway that is a long story. So if you have your results..Google them and see what normal ranges are and usually when you Google these things it will tell you what it means if you are high or low and then if anything is out of norm take it to your doc....hope that helps some..at least you will know if they are fine or not fine. Hope u feel better soon

When the Dr gets the blood results back, it flags up red on the screen if they are not within normal range. My folic acid flagged up as being low but all the others were in the normal range. I had them checked by both the nurse and the Dr and they are pretty thorough so I'm not worried about them being wrong. Unfortunately I don't have access to the levels they are . Thank you 😊

Wondering if I could have a floating kidney. Knawring burning small of back pain for 8 years constant, sometimes can’t stand for long. Had left flank pain for 2 years. Has moved last 2 years to this constant knawring ache under right ribs on side. Moving upwards as far as right armpit, if a bang into a wall on left side it really hurts all across my right side, makes me nauseas when banged. I can feel at top of breath in right armpit area. Right side pain and back almost eliminated unless bad bout when lying down. Also have terrible heartburn if I touch alcohol. Get tingling numbness in nose and chin comes and goes, aching knees. Constant fevers and night sweats. Nausea but never sick. Very short urinations and often up 3-4 times a night. Poop varies from clay to dark brown, always soft. Different movements from thin to a pat. Doctors think I am nuts as no weight loss in last 5 years. Went back last week and diagnosed with water infection. Been on anti biotics a week and still got infection. It started 12 years ago when I was 31 with severe heartburn after a few drinks on holiday, gets that bad I struggle to breath if I drink alcohol. All bloods comeback normal apart from once showed inflamed liver and raised bildrum. Night sweats and fevers are getting more frequent. Symptoms seem to worsen every year. Like I say the doctors think I am nuts, they put me on duloxitine which turned me into a raving nutter and nearly killed me getting of them with withdrawal. Had no help to issues. Any idea on what’s wrong would be appreciated.

The Alcohol causing Misery is a Key Indicator of NEPHROPTOSIS ... It's not a Hangover from Excessive Celebration - It's Immediate Physical Misery / My Skin felt Bruised / My Muscles Cramped as if I was Dehydrated / My Moods were Zipping from one Crazy to 3 Others Seamlessly ... lol... Please let me know if I can help with info. I replied earlier with Urologist details... Unheard Of these days to find a Dr that can help if you want to Resolve vs Manage Misery.

      Best Wishes!
