Constant urge to pee

Posted , 91 users are following.

I pretty much constantly feel pressure and like I have to pee. If I hold it in a long time the urge is stronger but as soon as I go, the urge starts creeping up again. No burning. Seemingly no discoloration or smell,

I've had this problem before which lasted maybe a year and then it gradually faded? But then it came back sometime last year and it's wearing me down so bad to where I break down and lose it some days. I've been to doctors and I never really get much help. The last Urologist cost me what? $400 to $500? And I got nothing out of it and now I don't even know what to do or who to turn to. I just don't have money to keep spending and not even be helped. Most doctors I go to just do the same thing. "Oh it might be a UTI. LEt's check" again and again. One of the only doctors who offered anything outside the box was a doctor from a few years ago who thinks I might have unintentionally trained my bladder to be this way. The most recent one I went to said it might be overactive bladder or something and kinda brushed me off.

I officially had lab tests done that determined I do not have a UTI. I know it isn't an STD because I had this problem before ever partaking in anything like that.

I've tried quitting soda and drinking only water. Still doing that. I'm even trying bladder training currently and I just don't feel like it's really doing much for me? I'm forcing myself to hold it in longer now but even when I do that I'll still have to go again shortly after. I once held it for like 5 hours, emptied, felt a little better, and then I get in the car and shortly I have to go again. It's just this constant awareness I have of my bladder, this constant feeling of like a little pressure or urge. I don't really leak much. Maybe once or twice I have though? I remember one morning waking up feeling like I must have just started my perod but it wasn't that.

So I mean I am at my limit here. I just don't know what kind of doctor to go to anywmore. And like I just can't bear the thought of dropping another $400-500 like a damn fool.

Sorry to read that this is getting you down so much.

I don't know whether this forum will allow me to post the link here which is suggesting that frequent urination may be caused by a vitamin B12 or Folate deficiency.

    Here goes

Well, that's interesting.  Not for this reason but I recently added B12 to my vitamin pill list because it is supposed to give you more energy.  Maybe it will help?

Hi, I've been having the same problem. I'm 22 and I always feel the need to pee. Ive been the doctors and they've told me it isn't a water infection, I've had an ultrasound done and had my bloods taken and everything was normal. On paper I'm fine and nothing should be wrong with me. Been on numerous courses of antibiotics and nothing has cleared up. It's a faint sensation of needing to go the toilet all the time, sometimes I have bad days where it's extremely bad but most days I can deal with it. It's starting to really get me down because I feel I can't live my life properly in fear I'll make it worse and be off work sick. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, I'm starting to loose hope.

Just following up on this thread - the amount of information, knowledge, suggestions is phenomenal! Having been dealing with a 99.9% similar issue, I found this all to be very informative and something I will be bringing to my doctor's attention. The only difference between my problem and yours is that once I urinate, the urge comes back as soon as I'm done. It never goes away and is at its worst as soon as I've gone to the bathroom. At the beginning of my issue, I sat there sometimes 5-6 hours a night trying to rid myself of the feeling. I would just end up feeling swollen and uncomfortable, along with the ever persistent urge. I am diagnosed GAD for five years now, and OCD for 22 years. Common theme here?

Anyway in short, I was wondering how you are feeling, what you've tried in the last couple weeks, etc. there has been some amazing advice in this thread and I wondered how it's played out for you. Please keep us updated!

Some of what you said happens to me as well.  Most of the time, when I have the urge, a lot of urine comes out.  Sometimes, like yourself, but no too often, I finish urinating, only to feel that there is still more to come when I thought I've finished.  Other times, ,I have the urge, and it takes several minutes to pee, and you have to sit there and wait, because the "urge" itself is very uncomfortable; makes it hard to concentrate on anything.

So it varies each time I have to go to the bathroom.  When you have an urge, it's very natural to want to relieve oneself and pee just as if you're on the brink of orgasm (which I don't think is related) you don't just stop just as your getting there otherwise it's very uncomfortable!

I was diagnosed with Overactive Bladder (OAB) 12 months ago.

The tablets the Specialist prescribed had a list of unpleasant side effects, and as I was already on BP meds, I  wasn’t keen to start taking these so looked into alternative answers.

The mystery remained, as to why I sometimes had days where I was absolutely fine. This made me feel that it could well be some changeable event such as my daily diet. One thing that would occasionally give me temporary relief was a urinary alkaliser available from the supermarket or Pharmacy. So I experimented with eating only the less acidic foods, but there was no change at all evident.

I happened across an article which stated that some relief could be obtained with urinary alkaliser by people who had a salicylate sensitivity. So I thought: “What the heck? I’ll try a low salicylate diet.

So I went straight on to a low salicylate diet, and goodness! After a couple of days symptoms reduced and now it is many weeks with absolutely no symptoms at all, feeling like a normal person again. I also continued to avoid the known bladder irritants such as caffeine, alcohol and carbonated drinks. Research has shown me that the salicylates are cumulative, ie. they accumulate in the body so eating a little each day can build up. Even items like toothpaste, face creams, shampoo and deodorants can contain salicylate, all of which adds to the salicylate load. Similarly some of the colours and preservatives in foods, particularly the yellow colourings produce similar effects, largely due to chemical structures similar to the salicylates. So in other words, it takes a bit of investigating as to the limits of foods and products that each person’s body can take.

There are many good sites with lists of salicylate levels in a variety of foods. The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney (RPAH) has a department devoted to food allergies and sensitivities, and has resources to help cope with these challenges, including a list of ‘failsafe’ foods and their salicylate levels. Also I found that the fedup.com.au   website is an excellent starting point for looking at food sensitivities.

I’m still working out what foods are best for me and which have a negative effect, but so far there is a 100% correlation in my consuming too much salicylate and the uncomfortable symptoms of an overactive/oversensitive bladder (OAB).

If the above gives some relief to just one person, then it has been worthwhile publishing it in as many OAB forums as I’m able to find.

Best wishes to all seeking solutions to this condition with its detrimental effects on lifestyle.

how are you?,20.so about 5 weeks ago,i was about to have sex with this girl out of nowhere i prematuartly ejaculated, the folloburning upwing week i retried and the same happened both for 2 more weeks, then out of nowhere i felt my scrotum burning up and hour later this constant urge to pee came, that feeling at the tip as you all testify, initially i went straight to google which by the basic searches i was already looking at how my carrier was going down the trash with how people have lived with the condition for more than 20 years, and considering i come from Kenya,Africa it seemed harder to talk to anyone about it,i decided to head to our university hospital where i was told i have a "mild UTI" and was given some antibiotics but 2 days later the medication had not done jack sh*t and was more worried and decided to a nearby private hospital where a urinilysis test was done and i was discovered to have Trichomoniasis vaginilis and the mild uti,i was given this injection and some cozol tablets 1*4, ibprufen and antibiotics this was exactly 2 weeks ago,all other symptoms went away but the constant urge was still there not intense as inially but just there now a week i decided to go a urologist where he was more concerned with the sti(fyi the last time i had sex was 9 months ago) where a urinilysis was redone and it came out my urine was back to normal(negative),i was given a 2 week prescription for solifen where am done today with the first week, personally i feel am almost back to normal and optimistic that the final week dosage will do the trick, this is more of a testimomny than a solution to anyone out there losing themselves to this the are solutions, one thing i found out is try to keep yourself as distracted as much as you can from that feeling down there,i have incorporated to do kegel exercises 2-ice a day,and they seem helpfull lowkey, this condition gave me a new insight to the word handicapped, people are really behind the curtain suffering.I do wish all the best for anyone out there,i have dropped several lifestyle pleasures such as weed and alcohol,it hurts but i know its for the best for my body

Hi! I just would like to add a possibility on top of the aformentioned likely causes: Sensorimotor OCD.

Try googling "When Automatic Bodily Processes Become Conscious: How to Disengage from Sensorimotor Obsessions".

I probably have this awesome thing too. I've had constant awareness of my bladder ever since I was a kid, took tests, tried psychotherapy cause of depression and anxiety... nothing helped much really. Well mindfulness training is actually helpfull, and that practice will probably be handy when I give this new thing a shot.

Reading all these posts surprised me a bit to be honest, but looks like there are many bad/under trained doctors everywhere. Oh and most of them killed even the spark of the empathy in themselves. Im well in my 30s and this is a problem I still have to deal with, it is so frustrating.

Anyways.. its clear for me that my depression and anxiety plus this condition are linked. I always thought that the bladder awareness is caused by my anxiety, but after bumping into that sensorimotor OCD article, I started to see what the real problem is. The constant feeling of the need to empty your bladder teaches your brain to bad habbits. You will go to the bathroom before you go somewhere or when you are in a stressful situation etc.. You will eventually avoid situations and places where you don't feel comfortable.

So I decided to retrain my brain. I already started to take in more fluids, because people with this problem drink less and are dehydrated. Also trying to visit the bathroom only every 4 hours. The combination of the increased water intake and the retention should expand the size of the bladder. I need to have my thyroid checked, there are many signs that it is underacting. Im also going to have myself checked for food intolerance. Going to put together a diet which should not irritate my bladder much. I will get professional help too so I can get rid of this form of OCD.

I hope you all find solution to your problem and find enough strenght in yourselves to overcome it.

Yeah actually i read up on that a while back too and thats what i think it is also

It may very well be sensorimotor OCD, which is hell. But if it’s a *true* sensorimotor issue, you will need a heck of a lot more than bladder training and fluids. Your research is good and the positivity admirable, but sensorimotor needs therapy that is OCD specific. You need to find the root cause of that intense level of anxiety, which may even require medications or supplements. It doesn’t just poof disappear with a few weeks of habit altering.

And sorry to see we are all still struggling with this sad I have yet another specialist appointment this week.

All I can do is empathize with you.

As I mentioned, I've been measuring my urine flow (and will again tonight).  But I wake up every 1-3 hours and void about 4 oz of urine.

The longer I sleep (4 hours is a lot for me now) the more urine there is.  I have no idea if that's normal or not right now.
