constipation again

I'm really almost at the end of my tether. My constipation stuff - constella and pico liquid - isn't working and I have terrible cramping pains. Called 111 and hopefully a dr is coming out although I don't know what he can do. It's really frightening as I'm not sure if my system has completely seized up. I'm at the stage when I really don't want to go on as life isn't worth living like this. Any idea how I can end this would be welcome

Since you are in the UK I might be able to help- get your Dr or gi consultant to prescribe you prucalapride. It is a fairly new drug for severe long term constipation in people who other products do not work, especially those with functional problems ( in your case you mentioned a defec/abnormality with your intestines so you would qualify). My mum was trialed on it as she has severe constipation caused by a spinal problem so the nerves to her intestines are damaged. She literally will not go at all without it. She also takes movicol every other day to soften up the stools and the occasional dulcolax if she feels she has a bit of a build up. It has been a lifesaver for her as before this she ended up in a and e a few times after not going for over 2 weeks.
It's really worth a go. As I said it's quite new so you might have to pester for it.
Good luck

Hello Leeniepie,
Thank you for your reply. I've already tried prucalapride to no avail but we're all different! I'm now taking linaclotide which goes under the name of Constella in the uk. It's better than pruculapride (for me) but I have to combine it with large doses of dulcease pico liquid which results in diarrhoea.
I'm like your mum in that I won't go without medication. You'll have seen from the other responses that movicol has been mentioned. I've tried it unsuccessfully - on it's own, standard dose - but I hadn't thought of combining it with Constella instead of the pico liquid. I'm resigned to taking meds permanently but I would like to avoid diarrhoea for obvious reasons!
Thank you again and I hope you and your mum have a merry Christmas
Best wishes,
Pat
