Consultants instructions 17 days post op

I have to walk half an hour twice a day.

I have two crutches for one more week, then

1 for the unoperated side. I have to do the hospital

exercises including the leg slide to the side.

As I am 79, I was hoping for a gentle approach,

but no such luck! I wonder what advice is

given when it's a 90 year old!

Wow, half an hour twice a day is going to take up most of the day with resting time in between.

Mind you, the pace will be slow so half an hour won;t take you very far at first.

    Happy walking!

I am going to count the time I spend walking

around  the house, 20 minutes a day I guess.

My local 'round the block' is 20 minutes, so I

will do that twice a day. That is manageable!

yes, cathie that sounds ok to me. I am going on the bus to town todsay and that will count as one of my walks as I cover quite a bit of walking from shop to shop.

Then later I will do my circuit around the streets where we l ive and that

will be it for today. I get very tired by late afternoon and then it's feet-up time. Don't overdo it.

I hear wheel-barrows are involved once you hit 90!

Sounds like you are doing wonderful with your recovery =)   Great to hear.

There is no age discrimination. 79is the new 60,

      I'd like to meet

a surgeon who had 2 THRs and hear how he

      coped!

thank you, I feel much stronger now, more positive

and less anxious day by day.

Brilliant, I have always read 1 hour a day is

perfect. It is not necessary to do any more.

I am not planning to do it all at one time, I

      might not get back home!

I was only given th exercise sheet too.  I feel some days I dont walk enough.  Days like today when I am so tired all I want to do is sleep, 6 weeks today. 66 years old shouldn't make much difference but I do feel really, really old today  x

Hi Kath, I was told by my physio that if I didn't walk then do my excersises as both would probably be too much. But if you are tired then have a day off too and let your body catch up. xx

It is raining this morning, so it is definitely

exercises only till it dries up.

    Hi Cathie

If you dont stay mobile you will end up like me. Your new hip will be come very stiff and be very paiful when you move.

I am in a bad situation because I had my left hip[ done and then my right hiop collapsed onlt a few days after. The right side got so painful nothing is helping with the pain. I have now been unable to walk at all for over 6 weeks. Not even to get out of bed except tp go for calls of nature. It has been a really low time in my life and I am facing sevear with drawl simptoms when I come off all my meds and major physio to get both my legs moving and to build up the muscel waistage in m,y rittgh leg. So please what ever you do try your best to do as you have been asked. it is for the best and you will benifit from being able to at least keep as mobile as you can. Even if the weather getsd bad walk round the house to keep yourself from getting stiff and sore.

Well done on getting as far as you have you have done really well so far. x

No I do not envy you at all all the good kind folk on this forum are the ones that have kept me going. We really do have a great group of people on here. Some one has always been there to post kind and positive things when I have been at my lowest. I know and I am determined to get back the life I had before. So no I am not envious of anyone who is doing so well while I am stuck in my rut at a full stop. It won't be for much longer then I can play catch up. It may take a while longer because of the mussel wasting but I am determined come hell or high water to get fit again. I am just glad that I lasted as long as I did before it all went wrong. My surgeon said all this could have happened at any time in my life because it was a defect I was born with so I would have ended up like this at some stage in my life.

Hailea I am looking forward to you posting in the future to say you've got out of bed. I think you're amazing to be able to say you're not envious of others. And I know you have posted encouraging things for others too. Seems like you've developed emotional strength and wisdom.

I have watched your posts, you are doing really

well. When I said envy I meant to have had your

second hip op. I guess envy was not what I meant,

more that you would like to just be walking agaín.

sent with very best wishes to you

      Hi cathie

what I really would like is to be able to just get up out of bed or out of a chair or go for a bath / shower or do any other everyday things just like anyone else without having to think about it. It has been a very long four almost 5 years and with all the other thing I have had done before all this happened  I will be just happy when it will all be over. I still have at least two more procedures to go through after this is done and two more things to be  investigated before I wont see a hospital for a while so it is just a case of sucking it up and trying to get past the problems and keeping myself busy with things.

      Hi kikeena

i really have no reason to be jealous or envious. It isn't like this is a permanent thing. Yes I do like everyone else have my off days and if they are particularly bad I stay off the forum. I have got past the fact that many that have posted on here have got there lives back and moved on. But one day that will be me. I have just hit a few set backs and a few bumps in the road. I will get there in the end. I may be better for being held back I will be getting looked after better and helped to get back in n my feet more because of what has happened to my right leg so in the end I count myself lucky that the technology is there to put me right and all the others who have also had to have this done. It is a major thing to go through but to go through it twice is even more daunting but I know I have to go through it if I want my life back. 😊
