I am sorry if I have got this wrong, but I have never used a forum before. I have been diagnosed with COPD. Can anyone tell me why vapour e cigs are forbidden please. Thank you

At present the jury is out on E-cigs and will remain so until all the research on them is completed.
If you start using them now, and later it is discovered that they present a significant rist to health, then you could be taking a heck of a risk, especially as you suffer with COPD.

I agree with you about the Ecigs...maybe but not about the vaporing. Go for it Shauna...several Dr's agree. Do what works for you. Anything is better than a real cigarette...even Chantix. Keep us posted!

I'm not sure about the ingredients contained in the 'cigarette-style' e- cigs, but the ingredients of the 'juice' used in vapers, is as follows:
Vegetable glycerine
Flavoring
Nicotine (unless it's zero)
And something called Propylene Glycol .. which, incidentally, is also used in some copd inhalants.
I believe that using scare tactics to try and deter people from using them as perfectly viable AID to stopping smoking, is neither fair nor ethical. Especially heavy smokers who desperately need to quit smoking because they have copd.
Just telling people to stop .. isn't helping. They need to wean themselves OFF the nicotine. Vaping allows them to do that.

However, I have noticed that 2 people fairly close to me have stopped recently at least partly because I was open about how emphysema was affecting my life and what's more, they're both reasonably young so they've probably stopped in time.
What annoys me is the stop smoking campaigns which tell you that your lungs will return to normal in so many weeks ..... yeah, maybe, but not if you've been smoking for years as I did. There has to be some way of convincing younger people to either not take it up or stop in time, but I don't know what it is

Any inhaling gas or smoking will damage cells of air pathway leads to thickening of cells. Damage lung tissue hamper the lung capacity of breathing and elasticity of tissue leading to stiffing of lung causing restricted breathing . so in COPD breathing is restricted so smoking will trigger more constriction of air pathway as well as cases poor blood supply to lung .

And all in this group, I too am new to all this having been diagnosed with stage 2 COPD in Dec 14, it was a complete shock to me and has already impacted on my life.
My husband & I were both heavy smokers 30-40 a day each, and both sought help at our doctors by seeing the nurse & using Champix for 12 weeks, we also 'vape' I, only 2/3 times a day when I feel a real need, my husband finds a need a lot more, but in all the discussions we have had with doctors, & even 2 scientists working on drugs to help copd sufferers they have all said the same as most of your comments, if it helps but reduce the strength over time.

However I believe legislation is being processed (in UK) to ensure the health and safety of the users of vapour e cigs.
