Copy and Paste

WHY is there no paste facility on here? I tracked down my previous very similar response to a related question only to find that, although copy worked, paste did not. Also, is there a way to search one's own contributions? If so it would be a big time saver as, inevitably, questions are often repeated, sometimes some time later.

Infuriatingly paste DID work on here but would not work when I tried to use it in a reply.

Thanks Nick; I'll try that next time but I still don't understand why I was, on one occasion, able to use the usual Highlight, R click, Copy, R click Paste but not in my attempt to put it into my attempted reply.

I know it's supposed to be good for my brain plasticity to do things differently but I'd really much prefer to do it the easy way and keep what's left of my brain for important adjustments!

If you want to use the R click method then the reply box has to be "activated" by L clicking to place the caret in the box.

WHY is there no paste facility on here?

I just replied over on the other thread - it works for me. I use click and drag to mark the bit I want to copy and Control C and Control V to copy and paste.

Also, is there a way to search one's own contributions?

If you click on your name and go to your Profile page it lists the most recent replies you have posted with View All as an option at the bottom. Depends how many you have written - I have pages and pages!

WHY is there no paste facility on here? - and this was done with your method which I have never been used to using. Maybe it was just a blip?

Thanks, Eileen, that's a big help. I prefer my mouse copy and paste method. My keyboard skills are pathetic but I do admit that familiarity is the main consideration.

OH uses that way too - I've always used keystrokes, had to write too much 😉

haha all replies have to do with paste without passing along anything about outcomes.

I can't remember whether I was tired just when reducing or most of the time on Pred. but I do remember that, having got to zero, ( it took five years ) my normal energy levels did eventually return.... not in a rush but I became aware that I was gradually able to resume normal life. It was not instantaneous; would say 15 -18 months.

Sorry now you've got it twice!

Just need to keep up with house/garden a bit better than I've been doing. Appears work is going to come into the picture which may exhaust me and/or may be just what I need to get some momentum. Time will tell. There are many times I NEED to get things said more than twice!! Thank you.

Here is compromise for you...You can still copy the way you are used to ( right-click, etc). Then when you need to paste, place the cursor where you want to paste it to and then press Control-V.

P.S. Those two sets of commends are interchangeable. When you copy, you place the text in the clipboard; then when you paste it copies content from the clipboard to the new place. Not sure why right click- paste does not work. My guess that someone did web improvement and (by mistake) disabled the paste function.

Works for me Nick. I tried both to be sure. The Paste option was there - others on the menu weren't.

It is working again. It did not work when I posted 8 hours ago. "Paste" was grayed out.

I've just tried the right click method and the paste function wasn't present at all, not even greyed out. Isn't that a function of the browser we're using, not Patient's website?

It's difficult to find rhyme or reason. I almost feel I should apologise for starting this.

I think my and others' experience shows that this site is connected in some way. I found first that I could copy but not paste. Then I found that if I copied the same message and pasted in wordpad that was fine. Then I found that it worked in Patient so you never know, Anhaga, you might get lucky next time.

It's a bit like the dog that only bites sometimes..... you can never be sure where you are with them.

Anhaga, after "copy", try to put cursor in the reply box and then try right click method. It is working for me at the moment. And to answer your question, it is a function of the browser, BUT web site can block certain functions, so it is really both that need to work. If you try to "paste" in the space of the original message, web site will prevent browser to show "paste" option, which might be the problem you are having. Cursor needs to be in the space that would allow "paste" to be executed.

Actually I had never heard of BettyE's method so obviously the ctl c and v has worked perfectly well for me all these years. 😃

Someone must have introduced me to that method but it's lost in the past; one of my Dummies books probably as my original Guru sadly died long ago and my family are even less au fait than I am. Grateful for the tips I have learned on here.

OH uses all sorts of right click things - no idea why i struggle with it!

There are some advantages of righ-click method... If I am casually reading posts on the site with my feet up and far from the keyboard, then with wireless mouse I can reply and do copy /paste and still sit comfortably 😃.

There are many functions that are hidden... for example if I want to start application like excel or word, if I right-click on the program it offers me to open App and choice to open any of the last few files I worked on.

I have a little Chromebook - really can't fancy having it up on the TV! I have multiple tabs open, even watch TV on the Chromebook, and still sit on the sofa with my feet up 😉

Now why didn't I think of that? Just kidding, my PC was built for trading and I have multiple monitors (4) in front of me wrapped in semi-circle. I have hardwired keyboard and just recently switched to wireless mouse. Wired kb and mouse was on my setup for years because of reliability - when trading online, speed and timing is of upmost importance and I did not want to risk having low battery and unusable PC even for just 2 minutes or whatever it takes to find and replace battery. It can cost missed trade. Lots of stress, which is why I have stopped active trading couple of years ago and just trade few times now mainly to get better exchange rate between US$ and Yen....

Can't imagine my wife tolerating this setup in the living room, nor I being able to focus while other people roam around, so I converted one of the bedrooms into office...
