Could this be thyroid issues

Hi all

Will try and keep this very brief.

Stopped smoking 'permanently' in January & since mid January or end January I developed something of a constant discomfort in my throat area of my neck.

In January I had a cough, being a smoker my dr ordered a chest xray which was normal, but nothing has changed. Dr has also ordered Full bloods - normal (6 weeks ago)

Lyranoscopy - normal with irritation on Lyranx & Globus diagnosis (2 weeks ago)

My symptoms are

~ Heavy fullness feeling in the throat area (the area from the voicebox to the part where your collarbones meet)

~ Swallowing saliva is a discomfort on the right hand side only of the throat, like I have a deep paper cut

~ Eating solids & liquids makes it feel better to the extent of not feeling it at all

~ The felling of something trapping the back of my throat or applying constant pressure to the throat or a 'dangling' feeling at the back of the throat feeling like my windpipe is blocked.

~ No lumps or bumps present upon physical examination by ENT & GP

~ Exessive dry throat

~ Feeling of cold air sensation when breathing in shooting to the right part of my throat where this cutting feeling is.

~ Sleeping is not disturbed but when I wake it makes its horrid appearance once again, it starts of slowly then boom full on symptoms of blockage, discomfort & heaviness feeling

~ Constant swallowing

I have been put on antibiotics twice with no relief, lansoprazole & omperazole - no relief & do not believe I have GORD as no heartburn, I understand you can have LPR but again no relief even when being on PPI's for a month & Gavison & Rennies!

This is driving me literally insane, I know the likelihood of throat cancer is none as my scope has been done for that but now my mind is wondering to cancer of the oesophagus or thyroid.

I am 35 f with no history of being a drinker, smoked for 16 years (10 a day or so), overweight sad.

Can someone if you can shed any light on this 'disorder of mine'

My GP dismisses me to having anxiety & these are they symptoms for that she states but for me this is so REAL!

Same unfortunately I have to wait a few weeks to be approved through my insurance to see the specialist 🤦🏽??? So it’ll be another 3 week wait for me to know anything.. my doctor put me on anxiety meds along with sleep aid to help me get by until I see the specialist because I am freaking out about my health an he thinks it’s anxiety an lack of sleep from anxiety Lol but this feeling is not anxiety! Scared to find out but also afraid of living the rest of my life feeling so horrid .. I mean what can it be? My mind has been everywhere! All my ct/x-rays have come back normal all blood work has come back normal along with other test .. patiently waiting to see the ENT feels like an eternity! 😩 I am so sorry after two years you still feel horrid you are not alone.. was there no help at all for you? Doctors can’t figure it out? I’m worried they’re going to tell me “globus” 😒 also worried it’s something else Lol I’m just crazy right now haha.. 🙏🏽

Hello, all. I just read through the thread. I thought I was the only one going crazy. I've been going through the same issues for months now. Neck and throat pain, palpable balls (lack of a better word)neck area, difficulty swallowing, difficulty sleeping due to sensation in thraot/neck, small twitches in neck, and a bit more. Dr. Initially thought thyroid which was only slightly enlarged. Eventually it went back to normal, no endocrinologist needed, but symptoms still remain. Had several thyroid sonograms, which are normal. Omeprazole prescribed. Thyroid blood levels slightly elevated but they said not enough to be on meds. On third visit, NP thought I was having a manic episode and wanted to put me on psych meds. Im not bipolar. Been to er twice, soft tissue x-ray normal both times. Felt like my throat was closing. First ER doc said only CT scan would show details but since not an emergency it wasn't worth the radiation. He thought anxiety, also, gave me Ativan then sent me home. Second ER doc gave me a steroid shot which actually gave me some relief but wore off after several days. Finally last week saw ENT (she did sinus scan)who discovered I had sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics. She said still could be thyroid but will wait to see if antibiotics help symptoms at all. Possibly swollen nodes etc due to infection. Said sphenoid sinus could cause neck pain and my imagination could have gotten the best of me. I didn't have discolored mucus or facial pressure so I didn't know I had sinus infection. I feel like I'm going crazy. Quality of life has decreased. ENT seemed to be the first to take me seriously. She said she may still do a reuptake exam for thyroid, so we will see. In the meantime I'm taking NSAID, CBD oil, and anything to get me through this. It has been five days on antibiotics. I recently quit smoking also. I hope we can all find some answers and begin to feel better.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the second ER doctor was nice and didn't treat me like I'm crazy. I was in tears. She said that she knows it's frustrating but that in medicine they have to keep ruling things out which takes time. So as a patient it's frustrating for no progress to be made, but to keep on and not give up. I felt bad I forgot to mention her kindness. It feels crappy, to say the least, when you're experiencing all these symptoms and the doctors just think you're crazy. So I really appreciate her and the ENT. Hope y'all are hanging in there.

Your definitely not alone.. I totally feel your pain.. we will get through this an be ok! You know, at first I was experiencing this feeling then it’ll go away after sometime but now it’s been a while with no relief an I’m just honestly tired of feeling like this it truly sux.. I freaked so bad in the er after my fifth visit they did a contrast ct scan an still came back “normal” I’m not hoping for the ent to tell me something not so good but at the same time I know this isn’t normal .. that’s what keeps me up at night.. not taking any of the anxiety pills they gave me because hello throat feels like it’s literally closing Pills just doesn’t feel like the answer unfortunately although I despise pills it’ll have been an easy fix to pop a pill an all this goes away.. sometimes I don’t even want to talk or go outside or anything at all I’m just super down an in a bad mood all day an just feel like “this is me now?” So depressing anyway I’m praying you feel better really soon! I’m counting down the days until I see an ENT .. feels like forever an I feel like I’m getting worse! How did your visit with ent go? Were you put to sleep for the exam? At this point I’m not even scared anymore I just want to be over

Yes I can relate. Good thing this forum his here so we don't have to suffer alone. I also feel depressed and have left the house only when I have to or when my partner encourages me too. Last night was another bad night. The pressure in my head and neck is unreal. ENT visit went well on the 20th. She didn't scope me yet, only did sinus scan. I see her again on Tuesday. Going to beg for some kind of imagining test for head and neck. Antibiotics aren't helping the symptoms any. It feels like something is not IN my throat but pushing on it from behind also with neck pain. This week I got dizzy numerous times. I'm also having to take anxiety meds to get me through the nights, but they don't help symptoms. Only keep me from losing my mind because of the symptoms. Hope you hang in there until your appointment. Sending good thoughts your way.

Hey, what was the sinus scan? What did the test consist of to be more exact.. an why didn’t they use the scope I mean once they did the scan an found nothing you’d think they’d keep looking? Or do you need to make another appointment for that testing..
