Could this be thyroid issues

Hi all

Will try and keep this very brief.

Stopped smoking 'permanently' in January & since mid January or end January I developed something of a constant discomfort in my throat area of my neck.

In January I had a cough, being a smoker my dr ordered a chest xray which was normal, but nothing has changed. Dr has also ordered Full bloods - normal (6 weeks ago)

Lyranoscopy - normal with irritation on Lyranx & Globus diagnosis (2 weeks ago)

My symptoms are

~ Heavy fullness feeling in the throat area (the area from the voicebox to the part where your collarbones meet)

~ Swallowing saliva is a discomfort on the right hand side only of the throat, like I have a deep paper cut

~ Eating solids & liquids makes it feel better to the extent of not feeling it at all

~ The felling of something trapping the back of my throat or applying constant pressure to the throat or a 'dangling' feeling at the back of the throat feeling like my windpipe is blocked.

~ No lumps or bumps present upon physical examination by ENT & GP

~ Exessive dry throat

~ Feeling of cold air sensation when breathing in shooting to the right part of my throat where this cutting feeling is.

~ Sleeping is not disturbed but when I wake it makes its horrid appearance once again, it starts of slowly then boom full on symptoms of blockage, discomfort & heaviness feeling

~ Constant swallowing

I have been put on antibiotics twice with no relief, lansoprazole & omperazole - no relief & do not believe I have GORD as no heartburn, I understand you can have LPR but again no relief even when being on PPI's for a month & Gavison & Rennies!

This is driving me literally insane, I know the likelihood of throat cancer is none as my scope has been done for that but now my mind is wondering to cancer of the oesophagus or thyroid.

I am 35 f with no history of being a drinker, smoked for 16 years (10 a day or so), overweight sad.

Can someone if you can shed any light on this 'disorder of mine'

My GP dismisses me to having anxiety & these are they symptoms for that she states but for me this is so REAL!

Finally to find someone who has similar symptoms to mine. I have been suffering swallowing difficulties muscle spasims/stiffness and chronic fatigue for 2 and a half years. I am 36 and it is wrecking my life. I have seen a neurologist who believes I have glossopharyngeal neuralgia I am about to have ct and mri soft tissue tests next month. I have been been putting off having scans done but I am at the end of my tether. The swallowing for me is left hand side under my jaw like a tightness feeling. My muscles under my jaw twinge with pain. I am fine eating food and drinking water but swallowing saliva is problematic. My body feels very stiff from my jaw down to my rib cage. My teeth hurt and feel like they have a strange sensation. I am so tired!! nerve medications do not work. I always worry about having something seriously wrong with me. I also worry about the dangers of the scans. The gp thinks I suffer health anxiety which really frustrates me as I feel I am getting panned of. I do experience burning and tingling in my jaw so I'm guessing it must be some sort of neuropathic pain. I just wish it would go away 😢

      Hey there

Its a horrible thing to have, I have been diagnosed with so many different things I cant even remember half of them to be honest....

I cough all the time - been diagnosed with a hyper sensitive airway condition and allergy to pet dander.......anti histamines do NOTHING but an asthma pump takes the throat wheeze away......I always feel constricted on the lower part of my throat and now headaches have started, I am starting to think I have got some rare condition or cancer especially that they cant diagnose....& wont bother investigating for me!

I have been diagnosed with Health Anxiety too and put on anti depressants however I dont believe that this condition is caused by anxiety, tight throat, wheeze, cough, icey feeling in throat when I breathe in, headaches......list is endless......sick of it!

I do have anxiety and that's because i can't get a good enough answer as to what's causing my symptoms. The condition has given me the anxiety not the anxiety given me the condition!! I really feel for you it's awful feel ill with no answers. I am waiting on an appointment to see the swallow specialist. So I'll see what they have to say. I think I may have a connective tissue disorder but I'm so tired from over thinking. I've steered clear of anti depressants as I know that's not my issue. It's hard work staying positive and parenting every day when I have an underlying worry as to what's wrong with me. I hope you get to the bottom of your problems. Keep us posted😣

    Hey there!

I have had some similar symptoms for the past 5 weeks. It started off as a burning throat feeling from my stomach up to my throat. To accomodate that I had this feeling in between my collar bones like I was being choked for 5 seconds. I was told that it was acid reflux and was given novo-pantoprazole 40mg to take once a day. I took them for 3 weeks but there was no relief. My voice was raspy and the burning was unbearable. I went back and was given apo-ranitidine 150mg twice a day. I took this and the burning feeling went away! Thank god. Now I've been feeling a sharp pain in the right side of my throat, kinda like where your lymph nodes are but only on the right now.. the pain seems to go up into my right jaw and eye. I was given a thyroid ultrasound, throat swab, and blood test. Blood test came back clear but haven't got my results back for others yet and it's been a week. Have a scope booked but apparently they can't see my until August... *Rolls eyes*

Like you, I continued to worry about cancer. I stopped googling my symptoms because I have crippling health anxiety/generalized anxiety and it was making everything worse. Seems the more I worry, the worse my symptoms get. Due to this I have been severely depressed and haven't left my bed in 2 and a half weeks. For some reason I can't talk for long periods at a time or laugh because the burning sensation comes back and it even burns my tongue and roof of mouth.. sorry you're going through this! Know you're not alone !!!

I forgot to say I keep getting that cold feeling up the right side of my throat too! Do you still have your wisdom teeth by chance? Mine were extremely infected 2-3 weeks ago on my right side. Unfortunately I can't afford to get them taken out so they are impacted horribly. I think some of these symptoms may be linked to that? Though, I am unsure.

      Hi there

Sorry to hear about your current health issues, trust me, I am still suffering......no doctor or consultant has helped me or cured me, they all say its pet allergies!

I still cough daily, still have the ice cold feeling in the back of my throat and now I have developed headaches.......going for an MRI in 2 weeks to check what is going on.....scared YES TERRIFIED - but what can I do except try and look for something that works....I get reflux so bad it chokes me during my sleep!

Seems that I am chasing a diagnosis all the time......NO i AM CHASING A CURE!!!!

So sorry my dear, for all you've been going through, mine went away after taking Omeprazole,I guess I was suffering from reflux. But I had panic attack last two weeks and it has been another issue I am facing right now,I have shortness of breath most times and I am so scared all the time. I think mostly about death and my dead loved ones, friends and relatives..I can't get it off my mind...I feel like some one could help me off a switch in my mind so that I won't think about dead people again... I force my self to breathe like a task that was given to me, sometimes I get tired of breathing and feel like ending it all, I'm so sad right now because I just conceived and I don

Do you think maybe you have postpartum depression if you just conceived? I'd look into seeing your doctor and ask if that is a possibility with your symptoms. I'm not sure where you live but here in Canada we can go to the emergency room and not get have to pay to be seen (though I know in the states and other countries it is different) I'm not sure if there are financial supports for you there but here we have something called "Ontario works" which is money from the government every month if you're financially in trouble or we have "odsp" which is Ontario disability support plan for people with disabilities and yes postpartum is a mental health disability! Hope some of this helps susan!

Thank you so much for replying, actually it is not postpartum depression because I've had this two weeks before conceiving, although I have been severly depressed for the past months...but right now I have panic attack and anxiety more often,I am in Nigeria and here we don't have any kind of financial support for sick people, and emergencies are pay before service even if you are dying. It is so pathetic. But I'll see the doctor tomorrow.

      There is something called "antepartum depression" which is depression during pregnancy that can extend into "postpartum depression." You have a higher risk percentage for developing this if you;

      - have a personal or family history of depression

      - inadequate support for taking care of the baby

      - financial stress

      - marital stress

      - complications in birth or breastfeeding

      - A major recent life event: loss, house move, job loss

      - Mothers of multiples

      - Mothers whose infants are in Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU)

      - Mothers who’ve gone through infertility treatments

      - Women with a thyroid imbalance

      - Women with any form of diabetes (type 1, type 2 or gestational)

My aunt is a pediatric nurse and she told me that. Seems from what you described above that you have gone through some of those factors. I'm so sorry that youre going through all of that sad I wish you so much luck in getting the help you need and I send you prayers! xo

Hi kay, was wondering how you were? I’m aware this thread is two years old so I’m hoping to get a reply as I am suffering with the same ailments! Doctors have cleared me of all test 🙄🤷🏽??? An my mind is so full of thoughts an my anxiety is through the roof! No one seems to understand what I’m going through an I’ve been to the er countless of times only to be sent home with pills (I don’t take pills) although I should for anxiety purposes as it is 1:00am here an I’m the only one in the house awake Lol I can’t seem to focus I want to feel “normal” again has anything helped you at all? I have changed my way of eating as well as stopped drinking sodas 😒 Lol all I could think an feel is “what the heck is going on with me” an how are the test “normal” when I feel so horrid.. I try to think positive but that’s really hard to do! Lol .. hope your feeling better. I’ve been told “strep throat” 🙄 “anxiety” (no sh**) I even had my head scanned to check for crazyness haha i mean what could it hurt right Lol I’ve had chest X-rays an were clear there.. next X-rays as well as with an without contrast..

That should say”chest” instead of “next”.. chest x-rays are clear.. also when seeing a doctor an they do these exams I’m not understanding why they don’t do the most extensive one? Cost maybe? Time? Unsure but after having a “regular” ct I asked for a mri an ct with contrast shouldn’t they have done that on their own instead of me having to ask? I mean if I didn’t go to school to be a nurse I wouldn’t even had known to even ask for these test by name.. 🤷🏽???
