Countdown to # 6

Today I am officially in the single digits. My surgery is scheduled for Jun 18th. Has anyone ever noticed Mondays as a rule stink well here is another example!! Trying to make smoe light on it so here is my line of thinking ( this is nonsense!! ) June 18th surgery 18 is the total number of times my L knee has been operated on, 2018 for the year. !8 might be good luck?? Since this is # 6 for knee revisions all on the same L knee I have no illusions on what to expect. The surgeon thinks I will be in the hospital 3 days ( my average is 5 ) I will not be able to drive for a month. During the month my blood will be monitored since I will be on blood thinners and I will have a therapist come by 2 to 3 X a week to help get my knee moving again. More than likely I will have those stylish compression stockings on that help with the prevention of blood clots even better here in Va in the summer it gets hot and humid wont I look cool? By the end of July I will be released from home health care and will be able to drive and I am sure driving to out patient therapy is going to be about it. What is good at least for me where I will go to therapy is less then 2 miles away close is good. I am going to be in the same mode as everyone else the pain is going to really make life miserable I may complain when walking now after the surgery just trying to walk to my living room is going to be no fun. One thing is for sure it will take time I have no illusions on that in fact due to the amount of surgeries my knee has had I would not be surprised if the healing takes longer.

This post if nothing else helps me in away deal with whats coming yes I have been thru it and yes I know what to expect and I am sure I have a great surgeon but I keep second guessing will this be it or will I have to repeat this mess all over again?? I may joke about this but in reality I am nervous and somewhat scared as well. So hopefully things will turn out okay??

No I knew I was going to need another surgery prior to joining this forum. Yes it is bugging the hell out of me but my thoughts being after 5 TKRS and complaining if I can offer some advice to help why not? I have pain daily and then there are days when my knee is pretty much screaming and its due to overdoing it. Today will be one of the bad days. My son and daughter and I are going to a park downhill is okay uphill not so much its about a 2 mile walk but we enjoy it and the weather is great!!

NWF, I know you are nervous, anxious and I feel all your concerns.....I too wonder about a possible revision after just 19 1/2 months. Are you on blood thinners because of AFIB? Because, I was on blood thinners before, during and after my TKR, my ortho did not require compression stocking. Good luck and we will be waiting for your updates to cheer you on in your recovery!

I would be freaking out!  You have been through so much already...there doesn't seem to be any logical reason why you have had to endure so many surgeries on that knee.

    Keep us posted.

8 days and counting !! I was looking over the stuff I have to do starting on Wednesday. I have to use a certain mouthwash, have to use a swab with some ointment for my nose, have to use the ( whatever its called ) to practice deep breathing, the evening prior to surgery have to drink a prescribed carbohydrate drink. All of it is supposed to help in preventing infections. In case no one has guessed nervousness is setting in!!

What blood thinner are you on that has to be monitored by a nurse? Xarelto (blood thinner of choice) does not have to me monitored by a nurse. Curious about the name of this carbohydrate drink and the mouthwash? Good luck as time draws near.

my apologies for not making it clear I am not any blood thinner. When I get released from the hospital after the revision they will have me on warafrin or something to that effect and its only for a month they want to make sure I do not develop a blood clot following the surgery. The drink is called Precovery an oral carbohydrate drink for the dietary management of surgical patients. it says citrus flavor bet it tastes like vomit!! The mouthwash is called Peridex ( chlorhexidine gluconate ) .12% Sounds yummy doesn't it??

Is it me or do other notice this as well, the closer you get to surgery the more painful things get?? Prior to finding out a surgery is needed yes the knee was hurting some days more then others but overall kind of manageable now almost a week away and my knee is letting me know in no uncertain terms how it feels. What even worse is even though it hurts now after the surgery what I feel now is going to be nothing compared to then YUCK.

6 days to go, last night was rough did not sleep well in part due to the knee and mostly just nervous on what is coming. The surgery part is no big deal I could care less as long as I do no see hear or feel anything I am good, the problem for me is after I know what to expect. The first month is going to be rough as in miserable lots of pain lack of sleep not a lot to look forward to. After the first month things start to get a little better not by much but a little but still lots of pain discomfort etc. After 3-4 months more then likely done with outpatient PT but still have to keep pushing. Being honest with myself it will more then likely take a year before I am back to normal. What FUN!!

Even more so as the surgery date draws closer!! Believe me its driving me nuts!!! I may have been thru this 5 times already and know what to expect but it still does not make it hurt any less I would almost bet compared to most who have only had had on TKR mine is going to be a little more painful and recovery is going to take longer ( Boy aren't I lucky )Maybe that is my problem thinking of the future as in the future after I get home from the hospital its not going to be fun. Most everyone here gets worried after 2-3 months and it still hurts I am well aware of the pain not getting enough sleep doing the exercises etc. It going to feel like garbage before it starts feeling better. Sorry I am getting myself frustrated I need to be told to shut -up and it will be okay.
