I was told at my 6-week post-op check that I did not need to stick to the restrictions any more. Might be true, and was reassuring that I wasn't going to do any harm, but some things were still difficult. eg I felt more comfortable with a cushion to raise my chair seat for quite a while after that. I used a grabber until about 8-10 weeks (depending on how difficult the object was to reach). Suddenly I realised I was picking the odd thing up off the floor without thinking about it. Kneeling was difficult - my op was Feb 23rd and I definitely could not kneel to garden at Easter (I wanted to!) but I could do so quite easily a month later. You have to remember that the guidelines are just guidelines and your body will tell you more than the guidelines. Good luck!

Sonya,
Hope you are getting everything sorted for your hip op like, making sure cups, plates etc, are within easy reach as you will not be bending or twisting, easy food ready cook. TV control, books etc handy.
Do not worry about op, you will be fine, I went to pilates, step aerobics and zumba at 5.5 months, it is lovely being out of pain. Loads of luck for the 7th.

Hopefully it's all over and done with now. You will have ups and downs but keep positive. Even though the hospital recommends 12 weeks I found that, living alone, I didn't have that option. You find a way around things if you need to! I had my op mid March after many years of pain. I think my problem was I was "coping". It wasn't until I started using a walking stick that I was referred, and was then pretty bad of course. My recover has been good, mainly, but I am 69 so do suffer from stiffness etc, even though I walk and do Pilates. It is wonderful to be able to get on the floor to play with my grandchildren though not as flexible as I would like to be.
Good Luck with your recovery. Keep us posted if you have any queries etc.
