Cramps and uc in remission

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi all, anyone with uc had any good results by emitting wheat/gluten to prevent stomach cramps? Been suffering cramps every third day or so for two years, not in a flare, tried no coffee,no dairy etc etc. Also tried Buscopan and Mebeverine and peppermint oil etc etc,not much help! Recently gone wheat/gluten free and added digestive enzymes, results good so far! Anyone else here tried this to help abdo pains please??

Hi again Maryjo,so so nice to hear from you,was only thinking about the help you gave me when I was first diagnosed. Two years on from onset I am still struggling with abdo pains, every two/ three days, always in afternoon and can last between couple of hours to hours on end. Sometimes feels like air has been pumped at force into my abdo, feels hard and bloated! I have tried loads to help: windeze,Rennies,Digestive enzymes, tried giving up:coffee, chocolate, too much fruit/veg,little fruit and veg,Mebeverine,Peppermint oil,the list goes on and on! Recently went Wheat/Gluten free, everything seems to work for a week or so then back to pains. Doc gave me Movicol, but I go twice daily, and the stuff makes me heave! Food doesn't seem to make any difference, pains are really affecting my life now,and don't know what else to do other than taking Solpedeine Max ,I would rather try treating the cause but this is making me miserable! I hope you don't mind me asking you questions but you helped me a lot last time MJ here goes:what is your pain like? How long does it last? How often do you get pain? What do you take as pain relief? What foods trigger pain? I am taking Probiotics and digestive enzymes along with Asacol. Sorry for the "essay" MJ but this pain in Remission? Is driving me crazy! Sorry to hear you had a bad evening too xxxxxxxx

Hi Jill....I think I have combination of ibs and uc.im still taking psyllium husk and seed.  I was reading other day that there is 40% more butyrate in bowel with use of the seeds. I know mine still generally good with it. I was reading other day that foodstuffs that contain sulphur aggravate uc and produce a lot of gas . Livestrong on the net has list of sulphur producing foods re uc so maybe u could check that one out. I'm also going on the krill oil more so mind u for osteoarthritis in right knee lol . Maybe if u google if there are any particular type of probiotics helps with gas for cramps. I have script for cocodamol 30/500 and I take half one at a time for cramps when necessary. You could also read physiology re sulphur and gas production and c if it applies to ur problem.  I am waiting for latest probiotic re gas problem so will let u know how mine goes. If I think of anything else will keep u posted ,xxxx

Hi MJ,Thankyou so much for your interesting reply.I will do some more research regarding the sulphur. Back to doc yesterday and have now got script for Dicycloverine to try,she thinks my pains are definitely IBS related ie bloating, hard tummy and " pumped full of air feeling".Will also research more on probiotics specific to bloating and gas. Am also doing more research on Fodmap diet,so much research eh!!! How often do you get pains MJ and how long do they last? Do you also get " pumped full of air" tightness with pain? Best of luck with probiotics, please let me know how you get on,take care Jill xx

Sorry missed this  msg first....pains are related to food I eat.... Only thing is I'm very bad at times and eat what I fancy. I did notice when we were in usa when we were in caravanette  thing for 10 days kinda chilling out and doing nothing ....eating mainly veg and fish I had very little bother....I was taking my meds as well. I also do yoga bout 3 to 4 times a week. They reckon that could help as well. Don't no if it's ur thing the yoga that is. My pains used to be a lot worse pre my psyllium days. And I do reckon the enzymes help if I take them half hour b4 food xxx

Hi MJ,really appreciate your support so Thankyou. I seem to be getting a lot of cramps lately and grateful that I have a med that helps although I hate taking more meds.Just wondered what foods give you pain and would you say it's food from previous day that gives you cramps the next day? Think I need to start food diary again but find it so difficult to tell what upsets me so often. Considering doing a liquid diet for few days to see if I still get pain? Getting worried that something else is wrong as I was given the impression that pain etc would go in remmission? Sorry to ask yet more questions but hese pains are getting me down now. Thankyou again MJ,wish there was more information readily available about this xxxxxx

Quality is better than quantity.  I can't think of anything off top of my head at present. Normally fruit but I'm on hols at mo and having plenty of fruit at breakfast time. Having said that if I take an imodium I seem to have less bother. I'm wondering if gut is in overdrive and that's what causes the cramps...another topic for research....lol.....so many questions and so few answers !!!am going to look at that particular thought of mine plus l reuteri when I get home.. They did a study on mice re l reuteri and noticed less osteoporosis in male mice than female mice for some reason ...and they say it's good for uc.. I think I will have purchased every kind bacteria that lives in bowel lol xxxx
